There are a lot of reason for his hatred for the Jews. A lot of Europeans believed that there was a conspiracy by the Jews to keep average hard working Europeans down and out. Hitler used that conspiracy as a political tool to gain power. Hitler also believe in a pure superior race that he invented called the Aryan Race, he was trying to preserve that Aryan Race from being polluted by the Jews through intermarriage and cultural infusion.

A few things.

Firstly, he noticed that Jews were in charge of all the most degenerate institutions and businesses in Germany, which was and is kinda true, since they basically run everything, on account of them being good a everything.

An extension of this was a tight association in Hitler's mind between ethnic Judaism and Communism, which was more and more becoming a threat to the west. Again, isn't entirely unfounded, since the correlation is pretty strong, but not exactly an excuse for genocide.

Another important thing was an extreme application of ethno-nationalism. Don't think I need to explain that one. Rather than separating the different races/cultures, Hitler decided that it was necessary to get rid of them entirely.

This is insanely abridged, of course, but that ought to give you an idea.

This was the perception of many but it was not reality, the Jews did not have ALL control of anything, but the perception was that they did. The one area they had the most control was the Banking system and that made them very unpopular.

The demon assigned to him convinced him that the Jews (Gods people) had to go.

No one around here likes Hitler. This is actually an unpopular topic for us.

My family always thought he was an insane and hateful maniac. Correct me if I'm wrong.

To exterminate an entire race? You have to be mentally insane or something. That kind of hatred and bigotry is not even human.

No one has yet mentioned the "Christian factor". Ever since Matthew wrote "His blood be on us and on our children" (Matthew 27:25) there has been a latent anti-Judaism throughout Christian history. This has periodically erupted onto active persecution and violence instigated sometimes by secular authorities and sometimes by Church authorities because the minority Jewish population made a very convenient scapegoat with which to deflect attention. Martin Luther was a virulent hater of the Jews. It is a long violent and sordid history that culminated in the Shoah in which a Christian nation tried to find a final solution to the Jewish problem.

There is an old veteran in my town who has some experience with the holocaust. He enlisted in the British army early in WWII as an infantryman. He was seriously wounded in North Africa and was sent back to England for treatment and rehabilitation. He was then not deemed fit to be an infantryman so he retrained as a medic. It was in that role that he entered Bergen-Belsen when the camp was liberated by elements of the British 11th Armoured Division and the Canadian 3rd Infantry Division. Six thousand prisoners were found inside, most of them seriously ill, starved and debilitated . Another 13,000 corpses lay around the camp unburied. The scenes that greeted these troops were famously described by the BBC war correspondent , who accompanied them: “Here over an acre of ground lay dead and dying people. You could not see which was which ... The living lay with their heads against the corpses and around them moved the awful, ghostly procession of emaciated, aimless people, with nothing to do and with no hope of life, unable to move out of your way, unable to look at the terrible sights around them ... Babies had been born here, tiny wizened things that could not live ... A mother, driven mad, screamed at a British sentry to give her milk for her child, and thrust the tiny mite into his arms, then ran off, crying terribly. He opened the bundle and found the baby had been dead for days. This day at Belsen was the most horrible of my life.” The veteran mentioned earlier said that the survivors were terribly infested with lice, ticks and other vermin so they were treated with DDT just as soldiers were. He then broke down crying and said “My God, we didn't know! We killed a thousand of them. Over the next 24 hours they dropped dead in front of us of toxic shock. We just didn't realize that they were so debilitated that they would react in this way.” Whenever I encounter a holocaust denier I think of this and similar stories I have been told personally by those who were there.

There was always a lot of resentment against Jews that's true, but the dimensions the Third Reich took were in a very different proportion, as you said:
Martin Luther was a virulent hater of the Jews
His disdain for Jews came after "they" - meaning Jews in the HRE - didn't convert.
Now, whether calling for expulsion as a result is the right choice, is highly debatable.

But for the National-Socialist Elite, none of them were Christians of any sort, they did create an abomination called "Positive Christianity" that basically skipped the Old Testament (obviously) and said that Jesus was in fact aryan.

And because of this I have to say the wording you used there was incorrect, the Third Reich was no Christian nation. Neither the government, nor most parts of the army: They destroyed and burned churches in Poland whenever they felt like it, executed priests, broke crucifix killed jewish converts to christianity. And many more abhorrent things.

why did adolf hitler, become totally obsessed with killing all the jews in the world?
Others have already said pretty much everything, the depression of losing the First World War, at a time when NOT A SINGLE ENEMY SOLDIER OCCUPYING LAND was also a very bad hit from his nationalistic point of view.
And quickly after the war jews and socialists (which are in National-Socialist ideology basically controlled by jews) were blamed for the "Schmachfrieden von Versailles" (= dishonoring peace of Versailles)
