I found it to be very peaceful

This one starts off slow; but it grows powerfully; I must admit that I had a tear or two (or three) on the line "I'm going there to see my Savor; I'm going there to see my Father"
Any times fine with me lord.☺

I find more and more that i do not listen to any songs of praise or worship for "entertainment". I listen for the heart of the message and whether it's sung for and to God, or to "man".

Thank you for that song Brinny; I've been listening to it since; and looked it up; it's an old gospel song from the 1800s; it says it's well know; but I've never heard it. And the group Selah I thought was like the selah in the Psalm; but have never heard of them before either.

Selah is a blessing to me.

Here's another. I understand you don't like "sad" songs, but just like David, i have shed many many tears, and this has been a theme song of mine when i was sooooo alone, and in a desert place, so to speak:

Sad songs are just fine; as long as they have a connection to Jesus, the Father; the Holy Spirit; or heaven. That first song " A Stranger in the World" could be looked at as "sounding" sad; it talks about "I came in the world with nothing; I don't even own the body I'm walking in." but then it says that "heaven's got a house which I can call home"

Psalms is full o' sad songs as David went through many valleys....so does the book of Job.

11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; 12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. —1 Peter 2:11-12

But he got through that and went on to pen some of the best praise Psalms to the Lord!:amen:
Also this forum is called Praise and Worship; not "Be sad and Lament" :D

Well yer title confused me, mnorian. ^_^ Being a stranger in the world indicates some heartache and sadness. The bottom line being that of course God does comfort, strengthen, and sustain us in His timing. There are times, however, when the full force of how very much we ARE a stranger in the world hits us, there will be expressions of that heartache in song, etc.

Even Jesus wept.

I see being a "stranger in the world" as; even when things in our life are going well; we still yearn for being with our Lord Jesus forevermore in that "Land we call the sweet by and by" as a song I listened to recently says.

I find songs that are "sad" without having some praise of the Lord Jesus and all He has; and will do for us; can drag me down into a dark place; where the focus is on me and my problems; instead of Jesus and His eternal Love and salvation.

The Israelite's knew that God had promised them a new Jerusalem to come from heaven.

"Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband." Revelation 21:1-2

So on that good news I post a more up-beat "By the rivers of Babylon"

Selah is a blessing to me.

Here's another. I understand you don't like "sad" songs, but just like David, i have shed many many tears, and this has been a theme song of mine when i was sooooo alone, and in a desert place, so to speak:

Brothers and Sisters (mainly Mr. O & Brinny & Spice; but others) I have to give y'all an apology.

I have let the problems in this world and here on CF get to me; sorry for that.

Those of a different theological understanding about things then me (and also with more theology learning; wither thru real world institutions or on-line studies and Google) have had me running ragged trying to put out fires; both through trying to out type/text me (not hard to do) and thru using multiplication of words; and other nefarious means.

What got me to see how far off the line of perfection; that I thought God required of me; was this song by Selah that sister Brinny posted. Instead of listening to it like I should have; I just read your words and gave a "head knowledge" answer; because I was so busy with my "so important" Supervisor duties.

So I woke up this morning in front of the PC again; and was going to bed; when I felt like I hadn't finished something; so booted up the LT again; and clicked on the first thing I found on the desktop; which was this thread; and this song popped up "All my tears" by Selah.

Oh; how wrong you were Brinny:); this is not a sad song; but a song of Joy; and the tears are "tears of Joy"! "I will not be ashamed; for my Savior knows my name; my Jesus washed away my sins!"

So if any are still listening; this is not a debate in P&W Music; but a discussion of a song. This all comes from reading the following passage in Apostle Paul's letter to the Colossians; you have to take the whole chapter in one gulp; no taking it apart; that's as deep in Philosophy I get. But some; I think; over analyze the Bible; and lose the essence of it.
Not Philosophy but Christ

2 For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh, 2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

4 Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words. 5 For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.

6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

Not Legalism but Christ

11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. 18 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.

20 Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations— 21 “Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,” 22 which all concern things which perish with the using—according to the commandments and doctrines of men? 23 These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh. Colossians 2 NKJV.
