Trying to wrap my head around this...God is pained by the fact that many will go to hell. Eternal hell. So, does that mean that God will forever feel pain? In a sense, will God suffer emotionally for eternity because He will forever be aware of those in hell, whom He loves, suffering for eternity?

I do not believe in hell. I used to believe in it but when I started to have chronic pain I began to feel God would not make anyone suffer for eternity.

If anyone suffers, God suffers....for as long as they suffer. He is life, and in Him we live, move and have our being.

You mean as if He's being "punished"?

Would you care to elaborate?

Huh. A headscratcher isn't it.

Here are my thoughts based on things I've picked up.

I kind of have this idea though, that if someone rejects god, they are rejecting themselves, as they are orientated toward God. their dignity; their goodness, they have rejected all of it. So theirs nothing there.
So they are unable to enter into loving communion with God and others. It has to go both ways for love to work, so it doesn't.

Another thing. Sadness can be descibed as an emotion that happens when we percieve injustice. So God would only be sad If hell wasn't just. and God promises perfect justice.

That is quite profound Joe. This would be an excellent study.

Thank you.

I agree. I think there will be a sadness whenever He (or we for that matter) look upon the lost suffering in the Lake of Fire. But they will have given themselves over to complete hatred of God at that point. So both He and we may still feel pity for them, this will in all likelihood be tempered by the fact that they no longer have much of anything left within them that would inspire pity or sympathy.

I'm just throwing this out here to ponder on....

it is written that there will be no more sorrow and tears in heaven.

What might this mean?

It's a good question, and I believe is in reference to this very subject. The command of God is to think on whatever is of a good report (Philippians 4:8), and I believe it will apply here. There will be a command of God not to meditate on what had to become of the wicked, due to their rebelliousness against the Lord.

@Joe 73, you brought up something very profound. And that is the question of if hell is "just" or not.

The question we must ask ourselves is,

is it?

To take it a bit further, we must ask,

is God "just"?

Well, attaching human feelings to God is inadequate. Terms like "The hand of God..." and God regretted..." are not sufficient. God loves all His children, so much that he will allow them to have everything they want, even if it's not Him. Those who love 'not Him' are in Hell when they discover their willful mistake.

The bottom line being, is God "just" or did He make a mistake or do something wrong, and therefore would "sorrow" about this "mistake" for eternity.....and if He is capable of making such a mistake, is He really a holy and perfect God?

Exactly. And the answer would be, No, He did not make a mistake. They did, by rejecting Him.

That's a good question. Christ lamented the sin and unwillingness of Jerusalem, even as He desired to save them, "' “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!'" (Matthew 23:37). It was their own unwillingness that condemned them. Christ lamented their lost opportunities. Will God continue to lament eternally? My sense is no, since a person will bear his/her own guilt at that point.

Where did "doubting" or "questioning" God, for instance "did He really say...?" originate from?

Yep. Let God be true.

He warned His creation from the beginning, and still gave him a way to be reconciled to Him through the death of His only begotten Son. Yet for those who still refused regardless and still would not listen to His warnings, they will have proven to have done so to their own eternal destruction. :sigh:
