As a christian who is newly trying to become messianic, I'm wondering if people will share what fall and winter holidays are the proper ones to follow or not follow.

I've looked up things online, but many answers there are confusing, so I'm turning to you here on CF as you seem to be more learned and easier to follow.

In general, are all holidays in the western world really pagan?

Which holidays do I celebrate or not and why?

Than you and G-d bless you!

From my perspective, secular holidays are a matter of conscience. If you feel okay about celebrating them, go ahead. Christmas is an entirely different matter because it's demonstrable that Yeshua was not born on that day, and to me, that defeats the whole purpose of commemorating it, and if it were possible to avoid going through the motions of it with my own family, I wouldn't.

After all my studying and research I can't recommend that anyone celebrates any of the secular holidays, as they all have pagan roots and nothing to do with our Heavenly Father or Yeshua.

Christmas celebrates the birth of Tammuz, the Babylonian god, not Yeshua.
Valentines day comes from the Pagan Roman rite of Lupercalia, a fertility rite for the goddess Lupercus, who also has her roots from Semiramis the pagan goddess (mother of Tammuz).
Easter is also a pagan holiday adopted by the Catholic church but goes back through the pagan cultures, it was celebrated in Egypt and further back in Babylon, worshipping the goddess Easter, Ishtar/Semiramis (also called The Queen of Heaven, which Catholics also title Mary) by sacrificing male babies and painting eggs with their blood (eggs being a symbol of fertility).
They also baked sweet breads to her as offerings, which is still done today, the hot cross buns.
Halloween of course is a pagan holiday where they made offerings to appease the evil spirits and the druids who demanded sacrifices as well.
There is so much more to get into but I'll stop here for now.

The Bible tells to be careful and not to to practice these pagan traditions.

Deuteronomy 12:30
30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them [the pagans in their customs], after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.

Jeremiah 7:18-19
18 The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.
19 Do they provoke me to anger? saith the Lord: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?

Ezekiel 8:14-16
14 Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the Lord's house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz.
15 Then said he unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these.

He tells us not to celebrate these pagan holidays, and calls it an abomination. He has his Holy days that He gave us to observe separate from their pagan traditions.

The Autumn/Fall Holy days (and dates for this year)...

20-22nd September Yom Teruah (Which was changed to Rosh Hashanah)/ Day of Trumpets or Shouting

This starts Yamim Noraim / The 10 Days of Awe (10 days of prayer for self examination/repentance). This ends with the next Holy day...

29-30th September Yom Kippur(Kippurim) Day of Atonement.

4-11th October Sukkot /Feast of Tabernacles.

12-20th December Hanukkah /Chanukah wasn't commanded as a Holy day like the others but it was prophesied in Daniel 8 and is an optional holiday.

"Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ."

The only way that they would judge you on what you eat or drink regarding any religious festival is if you are participating in it.

"Paul was writing to Gentile converts living in Colossae. It is important to know that Colossae was very near Laodicea, and both cities were known for their paganism. There were very few Jews living in that area, so who would be judging these new converts?

He was basically telling them, “now that you are keeping the Feasts and Sabbath, don’t let your pagan friends and family judge you for being different. Now that you are eating differently, keeping different Holydays, and resting on the Sabbath, don’t let your pagan neighbors judge you for being different. Instead, realize that these things are prophetic shadows of the Messiah, so let that encourage you to keep doing what is right.”"

How do you draw a connection between Pascha (easter) and an ancient pagan festival?

Pascha is not easter. Pascha is the remembrance of the deliverance of Israel from Egyptian bondage and of the believer's deliverance from bondage to sin through the Savior's death . Easter is the man made celebration of the Savior's resurrection.

I would be careful with the rabbinic ideas associated with Yom Kippur...without Yeshua.

Hello,

In Mark 7:6-9, Messiah called the Pharisees hypocrites for setting aside the commands of God in order to establish their own traditions. Messiah followed some man-made traditions, such as Hanukkah, (John 10:22-23), so not all of them are bad. Someone of them are good or at least benign, but where Messiah had a problem with them was when they were given equal or greater authority than obeying what God had commanded. We also have the example in Deuteronomy 12:30-31, where God commanded the Israelites not to worship Him in the same way that the pagans worshiped their gods, where God didn't just find the worship of pagan gods to be detestable, but also the way that pagans worshiped their gods, so they were not to adopt pagan customs. God has a specific way that he wants to be worshipped or else He would not have given all of those instructions for how to worship Him. There is absolutely nothing wrong with celebrating the birth and resurrection of Messiah as part of human traditions, but there can be things that are wrong with traditions for how we celebrate those days, and there is something wrong with celebrating those days instead of the days that God commanded. For example, Easter traditions involving eggs and bunnies have no foundation in the Bible, so someone could easily celebrate Resurrection Day without incorporating those traditions, but Messiah rose on the Feast of Firstfruits as the firstfruits from the dead, so celebrating Resurrection Day should not keep us from celebrating that Feast in accordance with God's command. On some years the Resurrection day comes before Passover and I find that to be silly. I highly recommend this study on God's Feasts, as well as many of the other studies and articles found at this site:

There is a theme throughout the Bible that we must obey God rather than man, so we should be careful not to take something that was only against obeying man as being obeying God. In these verses, Paul described the position of the people who were judging the Colossians:

Colossians 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits[a] of the world, and not according to Christ.

Colossians 2:20-23 If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations— 21 “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” 22 (referring to things that all perish as they are used)—according to human precepts and teachings? 23 These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.

So the Colossians were keeping God's Feasts in accordance with God's commands and with Christ's example, but they were being judged by those teaching philosophy and empty deceit according to human traditions, according to elemental spirits of the world, which are human precepts and teachings, self-made religion, asceticism, and severity to the body, which are not according to Christ. So Paul was writing them to encourage them not to let any man judge them for obeying God's commands and not to let any man keep them from obeying God.

How I see Yeshua in Yom Kippur. ...

Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement. Yeshua is our High Priest in Heaven. [Hebrews 7:26] He is innocent, undefiled by sin, and does not need to make atonement for his own sins like the temple High Priests had to do. There will come a day when Yeshua will perform the last act in the great steps of which Yom Kippur represents. Yom means “day” and Kippur means a “covering” or “atonement.” A related Hebrew word, "kapper" [kapparah], means "to cover", as in the covering of sin G-d provides for His people when they come before Him with the appropriate sacrifice.

Romans 3:25 God put Yeshua forward as the [kapparah] for sin through his faithfulness in respect to his bloody sacrificial death.

Lev 17:11 For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the alter to make atonement for yourselves; for it is the blood that makes atonement because of the life.

Hebrews 9:22 Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins.

I Cor 15:3 . . . the Messiah died for our sins . . .

Yeshua gave His life to be the ultimate sacrifice for our sins.

Lev 23:26
The LORD said to Moses, 27 "The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. Hold a sacred assembly and deny yourselves, and present an offering made to the LORD by fire. 28 Do no work on that day, because it is the Day of Atonement, when atonement is made for you before the LORD your God. 29 Anyone who does not deny himself on that day must be cut off from his people. 30 I will destroy from among his people anyone who does any work on that day. 31 You shall do no work at all. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live. 32 It is a Sabbath of rest for you, and you must deny yourselves. From the evening of the ninth day of the month until the following evening you are to observe your Sabbath."

It is said to be the “Sabbath of Sabbaths.” We are not to mix our daily routine with this holy day. The punishment for not obeying this commandment is death!

But let's back up a moment, to Rosh Hashanah which begins the Ten Days of Awe, the ten day countdown to Yom Kippur. It is when it is believed that the Books of Life are opened, and we are to spend the next ten days in repentance, preparing for the Great Yom Kippur, where the Books of our Lives will, at the end of His High Priest Yom Kippur service, will be closed. Approaching Yom Kippur we concentrate on how to reconcile the gulf of sin that separates us from Him.

He set up this system, its time frame, its purpose, and its work in the great plan on separating us from sin for all eternity. "G'mar chatima tovah!" is a common greeting during this time of year and it means "May you be sealed in the Book of Life for a good year!". I think there is a bigger picture here than just another year ahead. Yom Kippur is a story of redemption at the most critical moment, when good and evil are hard to distinguish, as illustrated by the identical goats before the congregation. One is dedicated to the Lord, and the other is the "scapegoat" or also known as Azazel [a name for one of the leading rebellious angels].

Leviticus 16:21 He is to lay both hands on the head of the live goat and confess over it all the wickedness and rebellion of the Israelites--all their sins--and put them on the goat's head. He shall send the goat away into the desert in the care of a man appointed for the task. 22 The goat will carry on itself all their sins to a solitary place; and the man shall release it in the desert.

Which I believe is the time when all the sins sacrificed for, the blood poured out in the sanctuary, is atoned for, and in great ceremony during Yom Kippur placed on the "scapegoat's head". Now picture how Revelation reveals the service performed by Yeshua is finished.

Revelation 11:2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

Daily sacrificing for sin was performed in the outer court. Most gentiles get the idea that the sacrifice of the Lamb of God for their sins, whom they confess to through the ministry of Yeshua, the High Priest in Heaven is available for them. The Temple itself has more services inside that are where you find the altar of incense [prayers], table of shewbread [Word of God], Menorah [Holy Spirit].

Revelation 11:19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.... Revelation 15:5 And after that I looked, and, behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened:

The temple also has the Most Holy Place where God sits and resides over His Kingdom. His mercy seat is over the Ark of the Testament where the TEN are kept. For they have the "mark" of His authority within it. It is found in the Law regarding the Sabbath. You find three parts to His authority [Creator], territory [Heavens and Earth], and Title [God]

Revelation 14:15 And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe....17 And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.

The feasts are harvest feasts, and the first great call is the Feast of Trumpets [think 7 Trumpets] After the Great Yom Kippur of Heaven is over, the people are sealed, the sacrifice for sin is over. Yeshua has left the Temple service as High Priest and has donned His Kingly robes to come gather His people. In the mean time, the earth receives the plagues without mercy. God's people will be unharmed, as they are marked as God's people and are awaiting for their King to come.

Revelation 15:6 And the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in pure and white linen, and having their breasts girded with golden girdles.

Revelation 15:8 And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.

Revelation 16:1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.

Revelation 16:17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.

I have no idea, but if you celebrated on "Easter Sunday" it was probably Easter. Passover fell on Monday, April 10 this year.

Also please tell me how you conclude Easter has pagan origins. Evidence please.
I am not the one that concluded that. Post #5 addresses the issue.
