There is always people slammng word of faith teachers. Creflo Dollar and his airplane, now Joel Osteen b/c he has a large church in Houston. I read on yahoo today that he passed the collection plate at his church. What say you? I enjoy his teachings, every teacher seems to have something he is particularly good at like Jesse Duplantis, Kenneth Copeland and Creflo.

I don't really care for his teachings or his lifestyle (he lives in a multimillion dollar home). However, I do not believe he deserved all of the flack he got over this Houston situation. From what I gather his own church was flooded, which would make taking people in rather difficult.

Prosperity is not something we need to pursue, Jesus is our pursuit. Solomon rejected prosperity and sought wisdom instead. That delighted the Lord so much, that he gave him both wisdom and prosperity.

Hi Jan... And why is there always people slamming word of faith teachers? The main reason is that Satan knows his time is running out. He will use anybody (Christian or not) in fruitless attempts to stop the Word of God from being preached (especially) in these last days. As far as Creflo's jet! Him and God will work that out. ALL the teachers here are awesome... even Joel Osteen. They all have different styles.

Exactly! But yet the critics have ears and don't listen. That's why God has to speak to them in parables.

(Matthew 13:13) "Therefore speak I to them in parables: because seeing they see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand."
How many times does Joel have to explain himself in this situation. Even "Christians" bashing him... and when Christians speak carnally... they won't see or hear either.

Wake up Church...

Absolutely, [And]... Contrary to what our critics say, we do not believe, or teach in a prosperity gospel. As you said, "Jesus is our pursuit."

I think he is really encouraging
And I'm sure that is what he intends.
I don't listen to his messages, not my cup of tea, but I have listened to him in interviews.

Pssst! You do know that includes us also, right? Something to think about...

Be Blessed to be a BLESSING

Of course it applies to us, but those who set themselves up as pastors will be judged more harshly; that is very clear from Scripture. The standard expected of pastors and ministers is higher.

Meanwhile all of us either get our reward from this world, or in the next. We can indeed have great riches here, but it is far better to have treasure in heaven.

Hi Hank77... I mentioned that I do watch and listen to him at times. He is not exactly my cup of tea also, however... God will always have someone prepared to minister to us if/when we have moments of despair as
we listen to (that still small voice!).

On one particular occasion (some months) back... my family went through one those moments. While seeking God for guidance... I was to led to TV Christian programming of different ministers (mostly WOF) that I DVR and automatically tape daily. As I was flipping to (each) of what my "favorites" were saying... I didn't get the encouragement that was greatly needed for the moment. So who was next while program flipping? Joel Osteen! God's timing was absolutely perfect.

After... I watched and listened to his encouraging words of God's Love for us... I rewound it, and invited my
wife to come in and we watched it together. The critics of Osteen call him, "Dr. Feelgood" (in a mocking way)because of his style of ministering. Well, on that particular day... "Dr. Feelgood" definitely made us... "feel good" through the Word of God that Joel ministered to us. Even though "We walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7)...

It still feels good to feel good....

I agree with you that sometimes a word like Joel's is exactly what one needs. I am happy that God lead you to a place of rest. God is good.

Jesse preaches more on his testimonious life rather than Jesus' love. He uses the gift of humor for that,in my observations.

Never heard him preach. If all you have against him is that he is rich, then you better repent. It is not a sin to be rich. By the standards of many, EVERYONE posting in this thread is rich.
Judge not lest you be judged with the same judgment. God knows his heart, and he knows your heart too.
Best think twice about doing His job!

The thing that needs to be observed is whether the preacher boasts about works that Jesus accomplished for us and the faith that He begun in us

OR

boasts about his act of producing faith, living a testimonious life etc.

The latter should be avoided totally.

You are correct, just as those who criticize WOF should repent of trying to be saved by works rather than by faith... the Word of Faith.

Saved by faith? I do not understand.

Ephesians 2:8-9 ASV
8 for by grace have ye been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
9 not of works, that no man should glory.

Yes, it is His grace which saves us and His grace also provides us faith which is the assurance that He indeed saved us.

Without this assurance that we are saved, we can't meditate, confess and proclaim.
