How do I avoid lewd things on social media? For example, I was scrolling down through Facebook like normal only to find a lewd video on the Facebook feed on my account. Needless to say, I erased the video. My questions are, was it my fault to even stop to accidentally scroll down and trying to avoid such lewd content only to erase it later? I did my best to avoid this video, or sometimes, a lewd photo. I erase that content, which is all I could do. Should I erase not only the content of the video but also to longer have any " contact" with said Facebook friend?

Or would it be a better idea to contact said friend about putting up such lewd comments, videos, or pics, if I know this person that I went to High School with for instance? What should I do? I am one who hates it when a so-called Facebook friend puts up a lewd video or pic, or even make a rather lewd comment and thinks it is cool to put up such "filth" on social media. Maybe I am being a stick in the mud. Maybe I am being naive. What are your thoughts on someone known or unknown putting up such stuff on social med?

I never see stuff like that, because I don't have friends who post stuff like that. Unfollow them to avoid seeing their content. If that's not enough, unfriend them.

My thing is pop up ads that seem to come from nowhere and which seem to cater for men with interests that are far, far different from mine.

If they are truly a problem for you, you can unfriend the person. What I generally do though is to unfollow them, so nothing they post shows up in my feed, but they can still see my posts and interact with me if they choose. If they are actually purposely abusive, I block them, and we cease to exist for each other. There are varying levels of control and interaction available to you on FB, and I pretty actively tailor my feed to what I want to see (and don't want to see).

Facebook shouldn't have advertisements that are racy.

If it's in your feed, it'd be by other people. You can unfollow them, so you aren't aware of their postings, but they still see you as friends.

Personally, I haven't used FB in...6 years?

All those I want to have contact with I do, and vice-versa, though calls, text or in-person.

Ads can be a problem. I've found them to be influenced by what I read, words I type, especially by anything I look at for sale online. Sometimes that translates out in strange ways, I've found with looking for medical-related things.

Best solution I've found for that is to go on Amazon and click on about ten things in a row that are very "safe" ... books, or pet supplies. That will usually clean up 95% or better of ads (until I get into a conversation about surgery again).

Facebook does not have pop up ads. If you have pop up ads, you probably have a browser hijacking virus.

Interesting solution! especially if it works!

I may have been speaking more widely than Facebook; although I don't think much of some of the Facebook ads, either.

It does work. I suppose it depends on how ad-filtering or selection works for a site you're on, and you have to have looked at something that one of their advertisers offers. Best one I've had yet is compression sleeves (medical). I looked at them about two months ago, and half my ads are still for that. :D

Pet supplies tend to be really reliable too.

Something that might help in general when surfing the internet is an adblocker. If you use Chrome as your web browser you can add the AdBlock extension and it might help cut down on ads in general which might help you in blocking out some of the more lewd ads out there...

I have nothing to do with Facebook but that has to do with my dislike for the entire concept of revealing my life to the world than it has to do with lewd or distasteful content.

I know people who do Facebook because it is their connection to their extended family. I can understand that.

With that intro, here is my thoughts on the issue:

I don't think you suffer any detriment from this stuff showing up on your social media. If there is any penalty for it, it would fall to the person putting it up. Delete it and move on.

As far as unfriending them, remember they are a child of God and God loves them as much as He loves you. If they -only- post things you find objectionable and there is no other reason to have them as a 'friend', unfriend them. If they are family or dear friends otherwise, then you have a judgment call to make.

My friends tend not to post lewd material, but sometimes there is stuff I don't like. If it is someone I value I delete what they have posted (usually graphic animal abuse, posted to raise awareness, but too much for me to look at) and block the source. If it is someone I don't particularly need in my life I block the poster.

I regard FB much like the telly; there is a lot of dross on there, but I don't have to allow it in my home.

I can't remember a time when I saw lewd content on my Facebook feed. It is, as you said, a result of being Facebook friends with that particular person. If you unfollow the person or use the hide function, you'll be less likely to see posts like that. If you want to be 100% certain that you won't have to worry about it, then unfriend the person.
Or would it be a better idea to contact said friend about putting up such lewd comments, videos, or pics, if I know this person that I went to High School with for instance?
I'm not sure what you mean to accomplish by doing that. It's their Facebook. I doubt they put it up on accident. It's your responsibility to curate your feed so that you only see what you want to see.

I have actually chastised someone for what they posted, but I'd say that would be less than 1 case in hundreds where it is appropriate or helpful.

The best outcome involved a young man who thought it might be funny to post pictures of a baby with beer and cigarettes and other such "humor". He had actually set up and taken the photos (I think, if he could be believed) but we had some fruitful conversation. My first response was just a frown emoticon though, and went from there.

Lewdness (from a sexual point of view) probably cannot be addressed in this way, unless perhaps it is someone very outspoken as being Christian who is posting such things.

Most of the time, there is not much to say that would be helpful.

Unfollow the person and or delete them if a friend is posting stuff like that.
