Interesting.
Islam also believes in, and holds Mary in high esteem, even believing she was a virgin when she had Jesus. [Judaism does not believe in this, but I could be wrong]
But their account of the birth is more similar to that of Ishmael in the wilderness instead of in manger.

Mary in Islam - Wikipedia
*snip*

The virgin birth of Jesus is supremely important in Islam, as one of the most important miracles of God. ...
According to exegesis and literature, Gabriel appeared to Mary, who was still young in age, in the form of a well-made man with a "shining face" and announced to her the birth of Jesus........

The Qur’an's narrative of the virgin birth is somewhat different from that in the New Testament.
The Qur’an states that when the pains of childbirth came upon Mary, she held onto a nearby palm tree, at which point a voice came from "beneath the (palm-tree)" or "beneath her", which said " "Grieve not! for thy Lord hath provided a rivulet beneath thee; "

Genesis 16:
6 Abram replied, “Look, she is your servant, so deal with her as you see fit.” Then Sarai treated Hagar so harshly that she finally ran away.
7 The angel of the Lord found Hagar beside a spring of water in the wilderness, along the road to Shur.
8 The angel said to her, “Hagar, Sarai’s servant, where have you come from, and where are you going?”

15 So Hagar bore Abram a son; and Abram named his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.

I attend a Filipino church and a brother in my bible study group told us about his uncle who died who was catholic. Their church told the family his uncle is suffering in purgatory and they could have him released for 5000 php. That's equivalent to about $120 USD.

Are you serious ? And when i call catholics Revelation 18:11 sellouts , they are angry at me .

In Christ's eyes I would be covered by the blood of Jesus.

All men and women struggle with sins. Whether it be gluttony (wow, just look at the obesity in North America, not to mention the congregations of our churches ), covetousness (Wow, just look at this generation, they need every new thing and they need it NOW), Sloth, adultary (more than 50% of marriages fail, even in the church and among those who profess to be Christians).

The list is endless. You cannot take one sin, that happens to be considered dirty, and tell that person they are damned. Then, ignore all the other sins of mankind, due to the fact that they are as common as belly buttons.

We are human and incapable of living day to day without sinning. As long as we aknowledge Christ and strive to be more like Him, repentant of our sinful ways..... we have salvation...

It is the right of no man to look at another and say "you sinner, you are not saved".

Only Christ knows the heart, the trials, the battles and the struggles of each soul... He will be the one who judges...and THANK GOODNESS FOR THAT!

As for the Christian that struggles with a certain sin..... They are covered by the cleansing blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and in Gods eyes are white as snow. That is the blessed hope.

We can't live without sin because it was our nature to sin. Sin is missing mark or disobedience , to not miss mark you would need to be God yourself , because only God can't miss mark , better off would be if people humble themself and have faith in finished work of Christ , which he planned from Genesis 1:1 .

HI - I am not posting this to start any kind of fight. I am just really really curious and confused.
Currently, I am attending a presbyterian church and have many bible conservative friends. I am pretty new to Christianity and when I ask about these, my friends tend to just brush it off as "because the pastor said..." or "Catholic is idolism..." kind of skewed judgement and opinions. So if you could please, just share what you think about my questions.... I have never studied or learned Catholic faith (if it is any different from Christianity I learned from my church), so please forgive my ignorance.

1. Catholics believe in Jesus as their savior and he is the son of the God. So Catholics do go to heaven as well, right? (My friend said in the Catholic faith, it said they have to do good things to be in Heaven, so they can't go to Heaven because Catholics don't believe in Jesus solely to go to heaven. Honestly, I didn't get what she meant.)

2. If i missed my church's sermon on Sunday morning, can I go to a Catholic mass? (I know going to a sermon is not 100% necessary action to take, but I like to have something in my weekend to keep my spirit up for the upcoming week.) As a non-Catholic, but Christian, can I attend the mass?

3. During the Catholic mass, when they give out the bread and wine part (I am sorry, I don't know what it is called...My church doesn't do it a lot..may be on Christmas only.). am I allowed to join because I was baptized as a Christian? Or is it solely for Catholic?

4. My church said I don't need to pray to my angel or saints or anyone except Jesus. Then what is the purpose of angels and saints? Even if the saints are not 'real' in protestant faith, isn't angel something the God said we all have? Should we just...ignore them?

5. What is the role of Mary in Catholic church? I know Catholics don't' worship her, but honor her because she was the mother of Jesus. Then why not honor Joseph, the father of Jesus, in the same respect? Why is the virgin birth so important? Isn't Nazareth's revival more amazing miracle? (Again, I am new to the faith, this question is out from my ignorance. Not trying ot compare miracles or anything like that)

6. Does Catholic really teach that non-believers who do good things also go to heaven?

7. I don't see a lot of Catholic evangelism movement as much as Protestant churches do. Is there reason for it or Catholics do have those movements but it is just not well known?

Thank you so much if you are answering any of the questions above. I am just really curious and confused.

Thank you

Hi HRDJ,

First of all, if you are a Protestant Christian, then you are a Christian because of the Catholic Church who are / is the First Christian / Church. How to prove this Truth? Easy! Did Christianity begin in the 15TH Century with Martin Luther the founding father of Protestantism, OR did it begin with the Catholic Church at Pentecost, over 2000 years ago??? As easy as we can can trace Protestantism's beginning, to the 15th century we can Easily trace back to see when when the Catholic Church's Began. Study the Early Church Fathers with an open Heart and you will see that what they taught is what the Catholic Church teaches today. Amen And it is not what Protestantism teaches today. :(

Honestly, I didn't get what she meant.) (the answer is below)

Hrdj, Does God reward those who do Good Works??? Yes Or No??? The Answer is YES! However!!!
The Catholic Church has never taught such a doctrine and, in fact, has constantly condemned the notion that men can earn or merit salvation. Catholic soteriology (salvation theology) is rooted in apostolic Tradition and Scripture and says that it is only by God's grace--completely unmerited by works--that one is saved.

The Catholic Church teaches that it's God's grace from beginning to end which justifies, sanctifies, and saves us. As Paul explains in Philippians 2:13, "God is the one, who, for his good purpose, works in you both to desire and to work."

Notice that Paul's words presuppose that the faithful Christian is not just desiring to be righteous, but is actively working toward it. This is the second half of the justification equation, and Protestants either miss or ignore it.

James 2:17 reminds us that "faith of itself, if it does not have work, is dead." In verse 24 James says, "See how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone." And later: "For just as a body without a spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead" (2:26).

The Council of Trent harmonizes the necessity of grace and works: "If anyone says that man can be justified before God by his own works, whether done by his own natural powers or by the teaching of the Law, without divine grace through Jesus Christ, let him be anathema" (Session 6; can. 1).

The Council fathers continued by saying, "If anyone says that the sinner is justified by faith alone, meaning that nothing else is required to cooperate in order to obtain the grace of justification and that it is not in any way necessary that he be prepared and disposed by the action of his own will, let him be anathema" (Session 6: can. 9).

By the way, "let him be anathema" means "let him be excommunicated," not "let him be cursed to hell." The phrase was used in conciliar documents in a technical, theological sense, not in the same sense as the word "anathema" is found in Scripture. Don't let "Bible Christians" throw you for a loop on this one.

So, far from teaching a doctrine of "works righteousness" (that would be Pelagianism, which was condemned at the Council of Carthage in A.D. 418), the Catholic Church teaches the true, biblical doctrine of justification.

THE ANSWER IS BELOW:

Hrdj, The Answer is YES! You can attended, However, You cannot receive the Most Holy Eucharist!!! WHY? Because you are not Catholic, AND You do not DISCERN the Body and Blood of Our Lord in the BREAD/EUCHARIST. HRDJ,
1 Corinthians 11:27Therefore whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and of the blood of the Lord. 28But let a man prove himself: and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of the chalice. 29For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Lord. 30Therefore are there many inform and weak among you, and many sleep. 31But if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. 32But whilst we are judged, we are chastised by the Lord, that we be not condemned with this world. HRDJ, if you do receive, then what St. Paul states May / will happen to you, and that IS: 29For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh judgment to himself, not DISCERNING the body of the Lord. Hrdj, IF you did Discern the Body and Blood of the Lord, then there will be NOTHING to stop you from becoming Catholic. Amen

3. During the Catholic mass, when they give out the bread and wine part (I am sorry, I don't know what it is called...My church doesn't do it a lot..may be on Christmas only.). am I allowed to join because I was baptized as a Christian? Or is it solely for Catholic?

HRDJ, Again, you cannot receive the Eucharist nor the Blood. Hrdj, you must ask yourself this question why would your church only want to celebrate once a year, if that, would not a Christian want to partake of the Lords Body and Blood on a daily bases??? Again, your church does it once a year because THEY DO NOT DISCERN THE BODY AND BLOOD. (Food for Thought)

4. My church said I don't need to pray to my angel or saints or anyone except Jesus. Then what is the purpose of angels and saints? Even if the saints are not 'real' in protestant faith, isn't angel something the God said we all have? Should we just...ignore them?

HRDJ, in the Catholic Church there are two types of PRAYER: Prayer Worship, which only belongs to God, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Second is Prayer WITHOUT Worship, and this is to the Saints in Heaven / Angels and Yes Believe it or not, I CAN PRAY TO YOU HRDJ. What Prayer WITHOUT worship, is, is Conversation with one another. HRDJ, Here is a Prayer to you with out worshipping you, here is an Example: HRDJ, Please pray for me. Could I have gone straight to God and by pass you??? YES! BUT I DID NOT! I asked you to pray for me. That is how it is with the Saints and Angles in Heaven, no WORSHIP involved!!!

HDRJ, The role of Mary in the Catholic Church, without Her YES, to the Angle Gabriel, WHERE WOULD WE BE??? HDRJ, YOU ARE NOT 100% SURE ARE YOU, you can speculate but that is all. For Her YES, Mary DESERVES all the HONOR AND RESPECT THAN ANY OTHER HUMAN BEING that have existed. HDRJ, do you believe that there has to be a beginning to everything, OTHER THAN GOD??? Adam and Eve were Created with out sin. The beginning of the humanity of Christ birth, Christ shares the SAME DNA of Mary therefore Mary had to be preserved form Original sin, the Immaculate Conception. Amen HDRJ, Give honor and respect to Mary like the little baby John, in the womb of Elizabeth when he Leapt for JOY, when he Heard the Voice of Mary, Did not the lord Say: "Out of Baby mouth come PERFECT PRAISE! Amen Amen

7. I don't see a lot of Catholic evangelism movement as much as Protestant churches do. Is there reason for it or Catholics do have those movements but it is just not well known?

HDRJ, the Catholic movement is the one that had you write this Thread. The Catholic Movement is ALIVE AND WELL, for the Catholic Church Discerns the Body and Blood of the Lord and partake of it daily, that which St. Paul speaks of. What is a movement without a church NOT Discerning the Body and Blood??? (Food for thought)

Yes the inquisitions also played a huge role in the reformation.
Yeah. I would think God didn't exactly want it to play out that concerning the Inquisitions and it was indeed a dark era in Christianity.
As far as the Reformation goes, I am glad to see that it brought some changes to Roman Catholicism over the past centuries, thanks in part to the Orthodox Church, which appears to have maintained it's core beliefs after the Schism of 1054. At least IMHO.......

*edit* by LLoJ

Can' we all just get along.

[YLT] John 17:
20 `And not in regard to these alone do I ask, but also in regard to those who shall be believing, through their word, in Me;

21 that they all may be one, as Thou Father [art] in Me, and I in Thee;
that they also in us may be one, that the world may believe that Thou didst send Me.

22 `And I, the glory that thou hast given to Me, have given to them, that they may be one as We are one;
23 I in them, and Thou in Me, that they may be perfected into one, and that the world may know that Thou didst send me, and didst love them as Thou didst love Me.

I was catholic 20 years and was not saved , didn't have Holy Spirit inside me.

Faith Alone, what makes you think you are saved now? For one to say that they are saved, is to Judge themselves as being saved, and Lord said thou shalt not Judge. and if thou shall not judge then one shall not judge themselves.

We hope and pray that the Lord will save us through His Grace and not what you believe or think, let the Lord be our Judge not ourselves. Remember not all who say Lord Lord will be saved, and I'm sure they thought they had the Holy Spirit in them. or they judged themselves as they did have the Holy Spirit, however, they thought wrong.

Food for thought: A true Catholic, will never leave the Catholic Church, for as St. Peter stated: "you have the Word of Everlasting Life". The Word became flesh, that we may eat and drink His Body and Blood the Eucharist, which you no longer have. You have left like the many Jews who quarreled among themselves.

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

You can know that you have eternal life .

Edit . I actually close forum and wanted to move on but Holy Spirit told me to come back with this for you.

1 Corinthians 11:31

The Protestant church is the reformation of the church. Meaning going back to the beginning of what Christianity was before it was corrupted by the catholic church. The catholic church was not the apostolic Church of God or the Church of the Living God. There is absolutely no proof that the catholic church was the original apostolic church. The catholic church claims that the early church leaders were catholic popes but in the writings of those men they don't mention the catholic church or being popes until the late 3rd century. Now I suppose you will point to St Ignatius or St Iranaeus and their writings. Before you do let me point out that out of 15 epistles claimed to be written by St Ignatius 8 of them have been proven without a doubt to be forgeries and the other 6 are questionable due to their episcopal emphasis which wasn't present in 107AD and doesn't appear again in the early church leaders writings until the late 3rd century. So it's obvious that someone was writing forgeries to make claims that the catholic church existed in the 1st century and claiming that Ignatius of Antioch was catholic. Now I'm sure you will point to St Iranaeus and Adversus Haereses. Of the 5 books that make up the compilation we only have 4 tiny pieces of a page of the original Greek writing. Irenaeus - Wikipedia
Go to this page and scroll down to "writings" and you can see exactly how much of the original writing we have. Now like I said before it is obvious that someone was writing catholic forgeries claiming to be from the early church leaders. What we do have is a Latin version. The first Christian writings in Latin appear around 250AD. So whoever wrote these forgeries has destroyed any credibility of determining whether these other writings that are not the originals as being valid. Another thing to take into consideration is these are the only 2 examples of the catholic church's existence before 250AD. All other writings before 250AD make absolutely no mention of the catholic church, episcopal emphasis, the papacy or catholic doctrines. Every one of them mention the church as being Christian. Even in Jewish and Roman records the catholic church doesn't appear until after 300AD. Their records mention the existence and persecution of Christians not catholics.

Next you mention the council of Trent. I don't know if you read the post I made here this morning but I explained how the actions and the interpretation of scripture has proven these men as being corrupted and not guided by the Holy Spirit and how their "oral traditions" are also not inspired by the Holy Spirit. You should really take a look at it.

Your reference to 1 Corinthians 11:27-32 is out of context. As usual catholics look at one sentence and form a doctrine about that sentence and don't examine the context of what is being said. Let's take a look at the entire context of what Paul is saying.

“When you meet together, you are not really interested in the Lord’s Supper. For some of you hurry to eat your own meal without sharing with others. As a result, some go hungry while others get drunk. What? Don’t you have your own homes for eating and drinking? Or do you really want to disgrace God’s church and shame the poor? What am I supposed to say? Do you want me to praise you? Well, I certainly will not praise you for this! For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this in remembrance of me as often as you drink it.” For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again. So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup. For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christ, you are eating and drinking God’s judgment upon yourself. That is why many of you are weak and sick and some have even died. But if we would examine ourselves, we would not be judged by God in this way. Yet when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned along with the world. So, my dear brothers and sisters, when you gather for the Lord’s Supper, wait for each other. If you are really hungry, eat at home so you won’t bring judgment upon yourselves when you meet together. I’ll give you instructions about the other matters after I arrive.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:20-34‬ ‭NLT‬‬

You can clearly see what Paul is trying to address is the problem with people not sharing the food and greedily eating and drinking all they can while others don't get any and people getting drunk. If someone comes to my church it doesn't matter if they've never heard of Jesus they are still able to participate in communion. No one is unworthy to receive Christ. My church does communion once a month.

You say without Mary there would be no salvation. If Mary never existed God would've chosen someone else. Mary was chosen because God already knew the outcome. He knew that she would complete the task perfectly that's why she was chosen. So it was not only Mary's choice but God's choice that dictated the outcome. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to downplay Mary's role in accepting God's will I'm only saying that it was also God's will that played a huge role and if Mary had not been worthy to complete the task she would not have been chosen. The bottom line is we still would've received Jesus as our savior regardless of Mary's intention. She would not destroy God's plan.

Can' we all just get along.

[YLT] John 17:
20 `And not in regard to these alone do I ask, but also in regard to those who shall be believing, through their word, in Me;

21 that they all may be one, as Thou Father [art] in Me, and I in Thee;
that they also in us may be one, that the world may believe that Thou didst send Me.

22 `And I, the glory that thou hast given to Me, have given to them, that they may be one as We are one;
23 I in them, and Thou in Me, that they may be perfected into one, and that the world may know that Thou didst send me, and didst love them as Thou didst love Me.

Please don't take my posts against catholic teachings personally. I am not against my catholic brothers and sisters. Not at all. I'm just trying to expose the origins of the catholic teachings and point out how their teachings are always based on scriptures taken out of context. I believe the catholic church is misleading my brothers and sisters and I feel it is my God given duty to show the facts about where these misleading teachings and doctrines are coming from and point out how they contradict the scriptures. I don't want to offend anyone.

Yes but when we look to the gospel it tells us that we are changed and made a new creation. Are we a new creation if we still keep our same bad habits? That's my question. Are we to simply keep getting drunk at parties and indulging in sexual immorality or are we to try to refrain from these things and at least make an attempt to change our lives for the better?

The Law calls us to live righteously, and we don't, because we're sinners. Yes, in Christ, we have been born again and are called in Him by the strength of the Holy Spirit to live right and faithful lives; but we will fail and falter--we're still sinners.

By placing the onus on human ability to be righteous, rather than on the grace and promises of God in Jesus Christ, we are preaching justification by works of the law, rather than justification by grace. And that's a deep, deep problem.

Instead of judging your brother and sister on the basis of their sinful failures, pay attention instead to your own sins, and then repent, always repent, repent daily, call out and cry out for mercy because you are a sinner and your hope is found solely in the grace of God in Christ our Lord.

I am a Christian because of Christ. Not any man made, man controlled religious institution.

The Catholic church has done much for Christ and much to control and corrupt the people searching for salvation. As has any religion.

With full access to the scriptures and the many translations we have, it is much easier now to understand the simplicity of the gospel. However, it is also much easier for the enemy to confuse with his twisting of them.

I do repent daily and sometimes several times a day. Geez your making it seem like I go around persecuting everyone. I don't go around telling everyone that's not Christian. So your saying we don't need to try to change at all. We just keep living the same life we lived before we became Christian? That is not repentance. The word repent doesn't just mean confess it means metanoia which is a change in direction or a turning away from something. So many people are too hung up on not doing works. Works are necessary for salvation. We are not saved by our works we are saved by our faith. Works are a fruit of the Holy Spirit and evidence of our faith. This is what James taught. I disagree with Luther's interpretation.
