Following the latest terrorist attack by a radical alt-right terrorist in Virginia, we must stop ignoring these views of theirs. This isn't just a phenomenon under Trump. It was happening under Obama as well (in fact, Obama's policies in the Middle East insofar as the Iran deal, not holding Assad's regime to account after Assad crossed the red line, attacking the rebels who oppose Assad, supporting the Iraqi government and the Shia militias, etc. were met with approval by the alt-left).

It's interesting that the two who seem politically diametrically at odds with one another actually have many extreme political views that align. Two sides of the same coin, I guess.

So this thread will attempt to show the different instances where the far left and the far right have supported the same evil people.

Let's start with the white supremacist gathering in Virginia that turned violent and one of them committed a terrorist attack by ramming his car into protesters, killing one.

Also in Virginia (the night before the woman was killed), members of the alt-right were praising Assad at the rally.

One of the few political parties permitted by his regime and one of his staunchest supporters in the war is the Syrian Social Nationalist Party, which drew the inspiration for its logo from the swastika."

Here is the shirt referenced above that was worn at the white supremacist gathering. In the video from which this screenshot was taken, they were also seemingly referring to the two chemical weapons attacks (the ones that garnered international attention, as there have been many others besides the August 2013 and April 2017 sarin ones) and dismissing them. Saying that if Assad uses them, it's none of their business. And that those weapons will take care of ISIS (lol):

It almost makes sense that Assad would be idolized, the Nazis had a strange association with Middle Eastern countries. They shared a common object of their hate, the Jews. Richard Painter isn't a left wing radical, he advised George W. Bush on ethics and he has finally denounced the hate groups of the alt-right in no uncertain terms:

Trump insists on an absolute ban on Muslims coming into the country. He says of Mexican immigrants that they are, “bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. He tells the Australian Prime Minister:

No, I do not want say that. I will just have to say that unfortunately I will have to live with what was said by Obama. I will say I hate it. Look, I spoke to Putin, Merkel, Abe of Japan, to France today, and this was my most unpleasant call because I will be honest with you. I hate taking these people. I guarantee you they are bad. That is why they are in prison right now. They are not going to be wonderful people who go on to work for the local milk people.​

What on earth are milk people, how does he know Mexican immigrants and these boat people in Australia are all bad? It's been entirely too consistent to be coincidental. He puts North Korea on blast threatening fire and fury like the world has never seen but can't bring himself to muster the same indignation with regards to hate groups right here in our country. Now old school conservatives are getting indignant with him. This isn't about political posturing anymore, perhaps it never was.

Yes, Europe is having some real problems handling the volume of immigrants, no one would deny that Brexit was largely over wholesale immigration and open boarders. Europe and the United States are getting more nationalistic and protectionist as a result but that doesn't warrant this kind of inflammatory rhetoric.

Trump's base is eroding, even FoxNews is starting to turn on him.

Assad is a Ba'athist ("secular" nationalists who often believe in Arab superiority) and the Ba'ath party took inspiration from the Nazis and admired Adolf Hitler. In fact, one of the Ba'ath groups was among the first to want to translate the Mein Kampf into Arabic.

Glenn Greenwald being attacked (and him agreeing with his attackers lol, as if he hasn't already been pro-Russian & Assad enough) for this article being posted on the often-garbage site, TheIntercept. An article that is talking badly about the alt-right....being attacked by the alt-left. This perfectly describes how they agree on and cooperate over their atrocious views on Syria.

Anyway, the actual article was good:

Assad is a key figure in confirming the white nationalist worldview. “Holding on to Syria,” Reid Ross said, “marks for them a crucial foothold in a larger geopolitical mission — one that has everything to do with that spiritual purity associated with family, tradition, and nation.” To the far right, Assad is at the front lines in the fight against the Islamic State and, more broadly, the forces of “Islamic terrorism” in the Middle East under a nationalist banner that looks very much like their own.

And the admiration doesn’t run in only one direction. The Assad regime has cultivated relationships with far-right white nationalists for decades. One of these was allegedly Alois Brunner, who actually died in Damascus in 2010. There is reason to believe that Brunner advised Bashar’s father Hafez al-Assad on torture techniques used in Syria’s infamous prison system, even as the regime has denied ever harboring Bruner.

In spite of the Assad regime’s track record of being the primary perpetrators of escalating Syria’s civil war — which has likely left half a million dead and spurred a massive exodus of refugees — the United Nations, the United States, and certainly Russia are all looking for solutions to the Syrian crisis that keep Assad in power. Assad’s relationship-building and connections with fringe politicians in the West has contributed to creating international legitimacy for his continued rule, as well as fueling a propaganda machine that paints the dictator as one of the final Arab leaders standing up against American imperialism and “Islamic extremism.”
