I listened. I didn't hear any wisdom. I did hear some mealy mouthed equivocating and a reserved, careful tone from a guy who'll normally run his mouth about anything. He can give the mayor of London a hard time when someone plows a van into tourists there, but he can't even bring himself to call out a bunch of white supremacists? He's a moral coward.

Well many Republican senators and representatives are doing much better. They aren't pulling any punches.

Absolutely. As soon as Trump uttered that phrase, ISIS disappeared into a puff of smoke and we never had to worry about Islamic terror ever again.

Looks like he tried really hard to avoid alienating white supremacists which makes sense, given how much they support him.

For a man that loves talking smack about anything and everything his lack of calling out white supremacists is VERY telling and hardly comes as a shock.

In the pictures of the confrontations, which side was armed with assault weapons? Wearing para-military gear? Holding shields with alt-right symbols? Holding hateful and inflammatory flags?

Reading about the counterprotesters, I did hear that they "jeered." That they said, "Racists go home," (statement of fact...)

6. There is far too much “both-sidism” in situations like Charlottesville. We’re there angry worlds and gestures from counter-protestors? Yes. Did they instigate conflict? Certainly not. There are no parallels between Black Lives Matter and those White Nationalists who confronted them. BLM activists do not wish that White People should not be in the country. The early intimidation, threats of violence, and the eventual car attack stand apart from anything the counter-protestors were doing. To argue otherwise is blind at best and malicious at worst. How much research would it have taken for President Trump to have realized who was behind the violence? Ten seconds? One half page of summaries?

In his speech, he went from avoiding accountability himself (a practice in which he shows considerable experience and skill) to letting his proxies avoid accountability.

Since I am a Catholic, I know a lot of people who have excused War-and-Peace-length volumes of sins committed by Donald Trump because he is allegedly "pro-life," but I can't imagine how the comments of the past week could not have given them a harsh introduction to reality. If they haven't had one, I am beyond speechless.

I touched on this a bit in the other big thread that's going on about this....

While it's true that one particular side escalated to lethal violence, both sides were part of the escalation pattern that led to that ending.

Like others, I despise both White Supremacists and Antifa...

However if two sides are intentionally provoking each other in a ever-escalating manner, there's only one way it can end. ...and to say that it was all one side's fault just because they happened to put the final piece of the violence puzzle together is inaccurate.

A lot of taunting, fights, and provocation came from both sides leading up to the very unfortunate ending.
