That is indeed a sad thing.

Either endorsing more drug use or letting people kill each other seem like dark options.

There's little will to change things. Drug treatment programs may be more cost effective and humane than our current situation, but there's little will for it. Drug arrests are easy and putting them in jail helps score easy political points. As such while decriminalization and drug treatment would help a lot, it won't happen.

I think allowing these thugs to kill each other is the only reasonable option at this point. This is not a fixable problem.

That seems counter to what Jesus would have done.

He didn't seem to concern himself with "reasonable options". He seemed less it's-not-fixable and more we-should-always-try-to-fix-it

They've had their chance to repent. I think we can apply this to the criminals.

Revelation 22:10-12

10 And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.

11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.

12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

The time is at hand (actually long past due) for these scoundrels.

Should we get our undies in a wad over the spate of gangland shootings that are occurring in large cities like Chicago and Baltimore? Or should we stand back and let them solve this problem themselves through attrition?

"I don't mind shootings, as long as the right people get shot." -Dirty Harry.

Who will stop them except for middle-aged while men, and we all know that the world doesn't want or need middle-aged white men, right?

I say, let them have what they want. Let them kill each other.

Have you read Romans 1? God lets people have their way. He "turns them over".

It is fixable, but people don't have the stomach for the medicine.

What Jesus would have done is history. Read what he is going to do.

I don't see the empathy from many Christians on this site, that Jesus is shown to have in the gospels.

Like this?

Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

Does that tell the whole story about Jesus is about in the gospels?

Who is saying this, what is currently occurring and what "state" are things in?

Empathy for the innocent, not so much for the guilty.

Well, the police chief in my city said recently that because of the number of shooting incidents that they are going to "crack down" on these offenders. I guess the police have finally "had it" with them.

I'm not sure why you replied with that.

You quoted Revelation 22:10-12 and I asked, "who is saying this, what is currently occurring and what "state" are things in?"

Do you need me to link to the post?

There probably should be institutional social outreach for gang members, and maybe alternative activities readily available. There needs to be steps toward solutions.

I agree.

Institutional outreach......prison.
Alternative activities...... making license plates.
