I was reading Psalm 126 and it seems pertinent to America. The poll is kind of rhetorical as any Christian should want other people to become Christians. I guess the question's purpose is mostly to tackle the assumptions of Christians who prefer a pluralistic society over a theocracy. I understand theocracies have failed repeatedly throughout history, but if the intention of the Church is to be in communion with God, shouldn't our government be that way also? Even if we attempt to have a theocracy in America and fail, wouldn't that be better than a democratic society based on the popular opinion of heretics, apostates, & infidels?

Here is a question to start the discussion

Should Christians aspire for America to become a theocracy & how does this connect with whether you want America to become a 'Christian nation'? I will let you decide what is meant by 'Christian nation'.

Thanks

A theocracy? Certainly not.
Thought I posted this in the American politics forum, but I must have messed up. I see you are in Canada. I guess this is applicable to you also although I would say Canadians & Americans are much different.

With that said, why would you not want to live in a theocracy as a Christian? (Lets just keep your discussion more general and not Canadian specific if possible).

Thanks

In a nutshell, theocracies tend to huge human rights abuses.

Alright, I think that answer can be dismissed as the same can be said about any government. It is possible that any government could lead to massive human rights abuses. Would you please provide a response with substance? Maybe start with whether you believe Christianity is true and if it is true is it possible for a theocracy to exist that would not lead to human rights abuses?

Theocracies aren't even ruled by God. It is just a bunch of corrupt religious leaders who supposedly "speak" for God.

Which Christianity?

I would grant that it is possible in the short term but ....

Yeah, I guess the issue with a theocracy is that it kind of automatically removes authenticity from non-conforming persons. For instance, LGBT persons would probably hide their lifestyle in order to conform to 'normal' social patterns in order to do basic functions in society like get a job or join their local book club or something. I think this would discourage the advance of the gospel as persons would be more concerned with 'fitting in' than actually believing the truth of the Gospel.

I can see why it would work God's Kingdom as we will all be made perfect. I guess I am not sure whether God would want this on earth. If we were a successful theocracy, would it help us be a light to other nations? I am not sure at the moment...

Bolded above. This perfectly describes the situation in our society until just a couple of decades ago and we are not even speaking of a theocracy.

thank you. Quite frankly anyone who does has not studied history to know what has happened when that one has been tried.

We've been living in a theocracy ever since Jesus ascended to the right hand of God after his resurrection.
How so?
