Does the New Covenant mean it's safe to eat Bacon?

Because I like bacon... It doesn't seem fair that God doesn't allow us to eat anything we want. What does that have to do with faith anyway?
Hello CoolDude68.

The way you behave towards other people reflects what you really believe to be true.

Whether you had bacon and eggs for breakfast last week is irrelevant.

What I believe to be true vs what is true is related to behavior towards others?

Hello CoolDude68.

It is the same entity, belief and personal behavior are one entity, they cannot be separated from one another. To believe is to love others.

You can eat bacon in the NT which we live in. We are the acts period of time or the 6th dispensation of time. In fact iroincally IN i Believe 1 timothy I believe chapter 2 God speaks against those that command people to abstain from meats I can find the specific scripture if you want.

Wonder how God is going to explain to people in the 1600BC era concerning the health effects of bacon. 2 gms of bacon per day increases colon cancer by 18% . Also linked to migraines, asthma, heart disease, etc. Sodium in bacon increases the risk of high blood pressure and stroke. Maybe, God found it easier to just forbid it.

Any command that God gives is going to prohibit us from doing whatever we want, so do you think it is not fair for God to give us commands? God's commands instruct us how to reflect His character to the world, his justice, mercy, faithfulness (Matthew 23:23), holiness, righteousness, goodness (Romans 7:7), and other fruits of the Spirit (Exodus 34:6-7). Jesus said that faith is one of the weightier matters of the Law, so obedience to it is straightforwardly about having faith in Him to guide us in how to rightly live. In Deuteronomy 6:24 and Deuteronomy 10:13, God said that what he commanded was for His people's own good, so those who believed what God said lived by faith by living in obedience to His commands. In Leviticus 11:44-45 and 1 Peter 1:13-16, we are told to do what is holy for God is holy, so refraining from eating unclean animals is about reflecting God's holiness to the world. God's commands invite us to ponder about why He commanded them and what he wants us to learn from them, but even if we don't understand why God commanded something, we should still obey it if we trust God about how we should live.

We know in Colossians 2:20-23 that Paul argued against those who were promoting human traditions and precepts, self-made religion, asceticism, and severity to the body, so in other words he was dealing with people who were teaching abstinence from eating meat that God said was good to eat in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14.

yep and the scripture I was gonna bring up was this one although you already presented some good ones.

1 Timothy 4King James Version (KJV)
4 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

In 1 Timothy 4:1-8, are the teachings that Paul described more consistent with the teachings of men or the godly, righteous, and good commands of God? Are those teaching obedience to what God commanded departing from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, who forbid marriage? Are they teaching irreverent, silly myths? Are they teaching against training yourself for godliness? It seems clear to me that Paul was describing the teachings of men, so it doesn't make sense to grab one verse out of the middle as describing something that God commanded, especially given that we know that Paul was interacting with man-made teachings against eating what God said was good to eat and to be received with thanksgiving in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14. God's Law is truth (Psalms 119:142), so those who know and believe the truth know that God's Word permits us to eat kosher meats, that we should not receive with thanksgiving that which God said was an abomination, and that unclean animals have not be sanctified by the Word of God.

That is one of the best verses when people try to push food laws on us.

I do enjoy bacon, but in moderation of course. Just like anything else. I don't care for pork chops though. Ham is good, especially sliced very thin at the deli. :meatbone:
Swooon. :swoon: A pork chop is especially good fried with some cream of mushroom soup poured over with a few spoonfuls of skim milk. Yum...

Ooooh I didn't read your footnote and your faith... it explains your response now.

Well... if you want to stick with the kosher meats... that's you're choice... but the verse clearly is referring to people i hate to say it but....people like yourself?

What Paul is saying is choosing to abstain from meats as you have done is fine...but commanding others to do so which you are doing is wrong.

I like to sort of see how someone who read the bible in the first century would understand a scripture...

And if I just flat out read this... back then...before commentaries and such I would take it as meaning I can't command others to not eat meat.

I mean most saved christians today don't even read the Torah lol but rather than walk in a OT way of living for God I choose to walk in salvation that was given to us in the NT. It's simple repentance and being born again now... and I pray you one day realize that. JESUS didn't die to give us the same thing. NT=New convent

Thanks everyone for the information. I felt in my heart that if I ate a piece of pepperoni pizza I wasn't going to end up in Hell. But I wasn't sure about the "law" and I needed some clarification for my own peace of mind. Appreciate the feedback.

the true God is hardly interested in what we eat, though He takes good care of us including as to provision of food - no food is forbidden, or at least in the New Covenant there is no commandment against any food; what He wants is that we not cause evil to one another, and that we help people in need of help...

Blessings
