Service to others.

Becoming an operational member of the Body of Christ solves a lot of issues.

*You* can't. No one can. It's like a car with its tires stuck in the mud. The harder you try to get out, the more stuck you become.

Fail to realize this, and you will have a very difficult time as a Christian.

Define pride. Is all pride bad? Must we be rid of all types of pride?

Are you speaking of pride that is conceited and having a self-esteem that deflates others rather than builds up or pride in our best work that leads to improvement? Can pride also be contentment?

Get rid of vanity and vain things, quit being presumptuous or pre-judging things, know that you do not know everything, nor is that even possible, know this life and how you lead it, is supposed to be to and for his glory, AND, It's not really about you... Make little to nothing about you... remove yourself from the center, put God in it... Quit being selfish and self-centered and self-absorbed... Die to self... Realize you are a "servant" and be a servant...

God Bless!

I've heard of good ole country boys (cowboys) (men) and farmers, people accustomed to hard blue collar work, having a kind of "humble pride"...? I think it's a pretty good example... Proud but respectful to everyone, proud, but not thinking too much of themselves...

Personally I would start by keeping my mouth closed or fingers still, however the case applies. If it ain't good and edifying, hush up, that's for starters. :D

Practice and experience with going up, or being tempted with going up, and bringing yourself back down or not going up...

God Bless!
Practice and experience with seeing the wisdom of humbling yourself, and be doing it when needed...

Whats the best way to fight pride tho?

My old pastor told me an exchange that happened between spurgeon and a congregant, after he was done his sermon, a lady came up to him and said something to the effect of "that was such a great sermon!"
Then he leaned in and said "the devil already told me that ma'am."

I understand we do everything to the glory of God and through Him alone we are able to do anything for His kingdom at all. But when something awesome happens, like a great sermon, what is the best way to fight off a sinful pride in ones self-- to straight away praise the Lord for letting us do something so beautiful?

The gospel is the only cure for pride.

The gospel says two things to us:

1) You are more sinful than you ever dared imagine.

2) You are more loved than you were dared hope.

The hemming in of both of those truths is how we can be truly humble. We are evil enough to deserve death (that keeps us from thinking too highly of ourselves) We are loved in spite of this (that keeps us from despising ourselves)

I'd bet that wise man was guided to be silent. For there is a time to speak and a time to be silent. A time to be the ear, and a time to be the tongue. Pride is lost when we are lost in Him. In time His Love in us overcomes all things in us including pride. Pride is from the father of our old nature. As He(The Lord) increases in us, all aspects of the old nature slowly disapear. In case nobody noticed, The spirit of pride and jealousy have been very active on these boards of late causing division and strife.I would hope that this will end and all return to the unity of The Faith.

By learning to humble ourselves and asking God to help us get rid of our pride. It's one of the hardest things a man can try to accomplish, but with perseverance and recognition of prideful moments, it will begin to fade. It is a very hard thing to do without a close relationship with God tho. Depending on the level of pride, it can be a constant battle through life.

Simple question:

How do we rid ourselves of pride?

By realizing that there is nothing to be proud about. Its only by God's grace that we have reached this far in life in the first place.
For He knows how we were formed, He remembers that we are dust. For all men are like grass, they flourish like the flower of the field; the wind blows over it and its gone, and its place remembers it no more. Psalms 103:14-16

[for me anyway] the answer is in what the Lord Jesus Christ told us in (Matthew 16:24) that if any will follow Him, we must deny ourselves, and take up our cross and follow Him: it is the denying ourselves, which is to deny (disown) our own will wherein repenting and owning our sins may begin, so that we may submit to and rely upon His Word only and exclusively: but if deny not our own will, then can we never be straightened in the Lord, for then would we be double-minded; and as it is written: a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. In short, our own will is to be proud, whereas the Lord's will is for us to be humble.

Ask Yahweh for Godly sorrow (II Cor 7:9-11).

Excerpts from The Message:
"I know I distressed you greatly with my letter. The letter upset you, but only for a while. Now I’m glad—not that you were upset, but that you were jarred into turning things around. You let the distress bring you to God, not drive you from him. The result was all gain, no loss. And now, isn’t it wonderful all the ways in which this distress has goaded you closer to God? You’re more alive, more concerned, more sensitive, more reverent, more human, more passionate, more responsible. Looked at from any angle, you’ve come out of this with purity of heart."

Sufferings can do it, we just don't want it to have to happen that way...
That's true, sometimes sufferings like certain kinds of sickenesses will humble us. It's when we have it all in life that pride begins to take over, but when something is taken away from us like health, it humbles us real quick and we seek God more then before.
