There is no one answer. Acts 3:15 (you killed the Prince of life), Heb. 6:6 (those who fall away crucify the Son of God all over again) - the Bible gives more than one answer. To say "choose one" is to ask the wrong question.

I know that.

Easy to misinterpret tone in an Internet forum, but no offense taken.

The point I wanted to make and discuss here was the idea that God is fully in control, and yet, men are not robots.

Both things happen simultaneously.

How could it all work out that way without God making people into puppets?

Agreed. He said it is finished and gave up His spirit.

So, they put a live body into the tomb? I guess the critics are right. He was just badly beaten up; took a nice nap for there days; rolled that giant sone out of the way. . .

The Roman Empire, represented by Pontius Pilate. Come on, washing his hands was just dumb, and didn't relieve him of his responsibility. HE was the one in charge.

God referred to the king of Assyria as a hired razor. A thing that is controlled by the hand of the person who wields it.

God planned it without question, but I don't know that I implied, or believe, that He forced anyone to do anything - rather, that knowing what they (and we) would do, He planned our redemption in His love. Not sure that He wanted it to happen, except in that His love for us made it worthwhile in His eyes. But then, what do I know?
God did not kill his own son. God knew what would happen before it happened.

The chief priests used Judas to find where Jesus was. Jesus was arrested by Jewish police and led to the house of Caiphas the high priest that year. Caiphas and members of the Sanhedrin accused Jesus of blasphemy. The next morning they took him to the Praetorium where Pilate was. The Sanhedrin was allowed some governing and police powers, but they were not allowed to execute anyone. They asked Pilate to execute Jesus. Jesus was forced to carry his cross and then was nailed to it by Roman soldiers at Golgotha. He hung on the cross from about noon until 3:00 PM. It was the day of preparation for the Passover. The Passover lambs were being sacrificed in the temple. The Passover is a special day of rest as is the Sabbath and other holy days. The Jews did not want Jesus' body left on the cross after sunset as sunset was when the Jews marked the beginning of this special day of rest and religious holiday.

Agreed. My only point was that because He knew it in advance (or from outside of time), He chose it, and/or planned it, to redeem mankind. We're all responsible for His death...He's responsible for the resurrection and our redemption. The details may matter, but not as much as accepting the result.

(Just my opinion, for what it's worth)

Of course, you are correct.

I asked my friend Ri (Purity Clarity Parkes), and we both think that:
1. If we had not 'gone wrong' Jesus wouldn't have to die.
2. God allowed Jesus to be killed as atonement.
3. Judas was the one chosen to betray Him.
4. The jewish leaders gave Him to the roman guards for the crucifixion.
5. The roman guards crucified Him.

Ri and I both think that 'We' are the ones responsible, 'cause Jesus was sent to fix up our mistakes.

Very interesting! I have questions.

1) Do you think that God didn't know that Adam and Eve would sin?
2) Is the crucifixion God's "plan B"?
3) When you say that Judas was "chosen", does that mean he was coerced?
4) Are "mistakes" the same thing as sins?

No Roman guard pounded nails through His hands and feet?

He did die. He was human as well, right?

This is why I suggested an improved question addressing what caused Jesus to stop breathing (physically die). This seems to be what you are really after. However, this appears to be a few collective events. Even before Jesus took the cross he was beaten and then later severely scourged. Historically, the internal and external bleeding from such a brutal scourging was enough to kill people. Would Jesus have been able to survive (without miraculous intervention) for much longer than he did if he wasn't also crucified? This isn't even talking about the risk of infections. What we do know is that he physically died before the others that were crucified with him. It seems safe to say this was most likely somehow related to this earlier trauma compounded with the additional blood loss from his crucifixion.

We must then look at how people typically die on crosses. At some point they become too weak to lift their own bodies to properly breath. This weakness is due to loss of blood and physical exhaustion. When this happens, asphyxiation occurs. So, what caused Jesus to stop breathing? Literally, his own body weight.

As the song said, "Nothing took His life. With love He gave it." (He Grew the Tree)

Matthew 26:53-54, HCSB--"Or do you think that I cannot call on My Father, and He will provide Me at once with more than 12 legions of angels? How, then, would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen this way?”
