It is a term used to describe the end of history (Isaiah 7:18-25) and is often closely associated with the phrase “that day.” One key to understanding these phrases is to note that they always identify a span of time during which God personally intervenes in history, directly or indirectly, to accomplish some specific aspect His plan.

Most people associate the day of the Lord with a period of time or a special day that will occur when God’s will and purpose for His world and for mankind will be fulfilled. Some scholars believe that the day of the Lord will be a longer period of time than a single day—a period of time when Christ will reign throughout the world before He cleanses heaven and earth in preparation for the eternal state of all mankind. Other scholars believe the day of the Lord will be an instantaneous event when Christ returns to earth to redeem His faithful believers (Jn.14:1-4, 28; 1 Thes.4:14-17; 2 Thes.2:1-8) and send unbelievers to eternal damnation (Rev.20:15).

The phrase “the day of the Lord” is used nineteen times in the Old Testament (Isaiah 2:12; 13:6, 9; Ezekiel 13:5, 30:3; Joel 1:15, 2:1,11,31; 3:14; Amos 5:18,20; Obadiah 15; Zephaniah 1:7,14; Zechariah 14:1; Malachi. 4:5) and four times in the New Testament (Acts 2:20; 2 Thessalonians 2:2; 2 Peter 3:10). It is also alluded to in other passages (Revelation 6:17; 16:14).

The Old Testament passages dealing with the day of the Lord often convey a sense of imminence, nearness, and expectation: “Wail, for the day of the Lord is near!” (Isaiah 13:6); “For the day is near, even the day of the Lord is near” (Ezekiel 30:3); “Let all who live in the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming. It is close at hand” (Joel 2:1); “Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision” (Joel 3:14); “Be silent before the Lord God! For the day of the Lord is near” (Zephaniah 1:7). This is because the Old Testament passages referring to the day of the Lord often speak of both a near and a far fulfillment, as does much of Old Testament prophecy. Some Old Testament passages that refer to the day of the Lord describe historical judgments that have already been fulfilled in some sense (Isaiah 13:6-22; Ezekiel 30:2-19; Joel 1:15, 3:14; Amos 5:18-20; Zephaniah 1:14-18), while others refers to divine judgments that will take place toward the end of the age (Joel 2:30-32; Zechariah 14:1; Malachi 4:1, 5).

The New Testament calls it a day of “wrath,” a day of “visitation,” and the “great day of God Almighty”(Revelation 16:4) and refers to a still future fulfillment when God’s wrath is poured out on unbelieving Israel (Isaiah 22; Jeremiah 30:1-17; Joel 1-2; Amos 5; Zephaniah 1) and on the unbelieving world (Ezekiel 38–39; Zechariah 14). The Scriptures indicate that “the day of the Lord” will come quickly, like a thief in the night (Zephaniah 1:14-15; 2 Thessalonians 2:2), and therefore Christians must be watchful and ready for the coming of Christ at any moment.

Besides being a time of judgment, it will also be a time of salvation as God will deliver the remnant of Israel, fulfilling His promise that “all of Israel will be saved” (Romans 11:26), forgiving their sins and restoring His chosen people to the land He promised to Abraham (Isaiah 10:27; Jeremiah 30:19-31, 40; Micah 4; Zechariah 13). The final outcome of the day of the Lord will be that “the arrogance of man will be brought low and the pride of men humbled; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day” (Isaiah 2:17). The ultimate or final fulfillment of the prophecies concerning the Day of the Lord will come at the end of history when God, with wondrous power, will punish evil and fulfill all His promises. Such as when Jesus will appear in the clouds of the air, to call all His faithful up to be with Him (1 Thes.4:14-17), and destroy all those whose names are not written in the book of life (Rev.20:15).

Correct. It is NOT "Sunday."

Yes, the seveth day of the week is the weekly Sabbath God established for Israel. However, the OP is about a prophetic event called "the Day of the Lord," the 70th week of Daniel, the final 3.5 years of the seven year tribulation, yet to take place.

Yes, the seveth day of the week is the weekly Sabbath God established for Israel.
And yet many take the phrase "Lord's Day" in Rev 1 (which means "Day of the Lord") to justify Sunday worship, even though there is no text that ties it to any day of the week.

The day of the Lord is the same as the day of Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2 reveals that day will not come before the man of sin is revealed.

The church is here until the day of Christ.

The Day of the Lord and the Day of Christ, are not the same. [A KJV miss-translation in 2 Thess.2:2.]

What Is The Day Of The Lord, And Is It Different From The Day Of Christ? Zeph. 1:15, 18, “That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness. 18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.”

2 Pet. 3:10-11, “But the Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness.” There are many other scriptures that describe the Day of the Lord; Isa. 2:12-21; Amos 5:18-20; Joel 1:15; 2:1-2, 10-11, 30-31, etc. No rational person (not even an atheist) would want to face going through such a terrible time. The Day of the Lord is a terrible time period for those who refused the atoning sacrifice of God’s only Son- Jesus.

Christians are not destined, nor do they go through the Day of the Lord. Rom. 5:9, “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” 1 Thes. 5:9-10, “For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ. 10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.” Those who have accepted Jesus as Lord will be raptured before the Wrath. Those who don’t get raptured, will face the Day of the Lord.

The Day of Christ as described in 2 Thes. 2:2 (KJ ver.) is not the same event as the Day of the Lord! This needs to be understood. Some translations use Day of the Lord in this passage. The Greek uses the Day of the Christ; KJ translates as Day of Christ. Furthermore, the context of the passage also supports that this passage can’t be Day of the Lord, since the preceding verse is talking about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, & our gathering together to Him- which is obviously referring to the Rapture, & not to the Day of The Lord! However, immediately after we are raptured, the day of the Lord begins (further explanation to follow).

The Day of Christ is going to be a glorious day. We will meet the Lord when He comes in the clouds & gathers us, Matt. 24:30-31, “And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”

We will be raptured 1 Thes. 4:16-18, “16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” Christians are, “looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ,” Tit. 2:13. However, the preceding 2 verses Tit. 2:11-12 states, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present world.”

When we are raptured, we get our new immortal bodies,1 Cor. 15:50-54, “ Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead (dead Christians) will be raised incorruptible, and we (Christians who are living) shall be changed.” 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be bought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.” As the song says, “What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see, and I shall look upon His face, the one who saved me by His grace.”

Quasar92
Is this the day of the Lord?

Psalm 18
7 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.
8 There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.
9 He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet.
10 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind.
11 He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.
12 At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire.
13 The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire.
14 Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.
15 Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.

And yet many take the phrase "Lord's Day" in Rev 1 (which means "Day of the Lord") to justify Sunday worship, even though there is no text that ties it to any day of the week.

Actually, the expression, "the Lord's Day," refers to the Christian weekly Sabath, the first day of the week. It is entirely different than the meaning of the term, the Day of the Lord, described in the OP. Review the following:

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness.”
There are many other scriptures that describe the Day of the Lord; Isa.

The great and terrible Day of the Lord's vengeance and wrath is the next prophesied event we can expect. It is just for one day and what the Lord sends will literally fulfil all the graphic prophesies about it. Isaiah 9:14, Zechariah 3:9, Revelation 6:12-17, + Psalms 18:7-15 is certainly about that shocking Day.
After this forthcoming Day, the world will be a different place as it slowly recovers from the devastation caused by a massive explosion on the sun's surface, Isaiah 39:26, Malachi 4:1, Psalms 50:1-3
Zion, the Promised Land

Isaiah 49:14-23 Zion says: The Lord has forsaken me. The Lord says: Can a woman forget her child? I shall never forget you. I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands. Your dwellings are always before My eyes.
Your people will hasten back, while your enemies depart. Look around, your children gather and come to you. They will be as ornaments in the Land.
Once the Land was desolate. Your enemies are now far away. The children born while the Land was occupied by foreigners will now say: This place is too small for us. Zion will say; who bore these children, when I was deserted, where did they come from?
The Lord says; I shall signal to the nations, they will carefully transport My people to their Promised Land. Kings will be your sponsors and great people will serve and honour you. You will know that I am the Lord, none who trust in Me will be disappointed.

Zion: The holy Land, forsaken and desolate, Jeremiah 22:6-7, Hosea 4:3, that is how it will be after the next prophesied event: The Lord’s Day of vengeance and wrath, an explosion of the sun, directed at the Middle East that will clear and cleanse the entire area. Currently most of the holy Land is occupied by atheists or false religion worshippers. The Jews will be judged, Zechariah 13:7-9, Ezekiel 30:1-5, Hosea 4:3, Zephaniah 1:18, 2 Peter 3:7

‘the enemies depart, they are now far away’: Psalms 83 and Micah 4:11 tell us how the surrounding nations and entities all hate Israel and want to ‘wipe them off the map’. Those attackers will all be killed, some by their own weapons; Psalms 7:12-16, and the rest of the inhabitants will die or flee. Jeremiah 49:4-5 & 35-37

Your people will hasten back’: A part of Judah has returned, but very few are true believers and they all face judgement. A remnant will survive in Jerusalem. Isaiah 6:13 All true Christians are now the Lord’s people: Romans 9:24-26, Psalms 24:3-5, Malachi 3:16-17

The Lord’s people, all those who put their trust in Him’: Christians from every race, nation and language, will be gathered and transported to all the area from the Nile to the Euphrates. Isaiah 66:18b-20, Psalms 107, Jer. 23:3-4, Zechariah 9:16 On that Day their God will save them, they will sparkle like jewels in the Land.

‘The Promised Land’: will be regenerated and become fruitful. Joel 2:21-24, Psalms 126:1-5, Amos 9:1-15, +

Ezekiel 36:8-12 You, mountains of Israel, put forth your branches and bear fruit, for the homecoming of your people is near. Isaiah 51:3

Isaiah 35:1-10 Let the desert be glad, let it flower and rejoice!...Be strong, My people, fear not: your God comes to save you with His vengeance and retribution. Then; understanding will be given to all who couldn’t see or comprehend the Prophetic Word.
A highway will appear and by that road, the Lord’s redeemed people will travel into their heritage. His holy people, set free will enter Zion with shouts of praise for their Redeemer. Gladness and joy will come upon them and suffering and sorrow will be gone.

Psalms 48:11-14 The hills of Zion rejoice, Judah’s cities are glad. Walk about the holy Land, count the towers. Note the fortifications and buildings, so that you can tell about them to the coming generations. For this God is our God, our guide and protector, now and forever.

Psalms 69:35-36 For God will deliver Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. The children of those who serve Him will inherit the Land and those who love His Name will dwell there. Psalms 37:29

Isaiah 55:11-13 You will go out with joy and be led forth in peace....the Land will rejoice at your coming. Reference: Revised English Bible, some verses abridged.

That all this happens before the Return of Jesus in His glory, is made clear by Isaiah 49:23, Ezekiel 39:23-29, Romans 9:24-26
you will know that I am the Lord’’. First, His people will gather and settle in all of the holy Land. Those who serve the Lord will inherit the Land. All that is prophesied will happen as they prepare for the eventual Millennial reign of Jesus.

The events that take place during the Day of the Lord, consist of seven seal judgments, seven trumpet judgments and seven bowl judgments, found in chapters 6 through 19 in Revelation, which the Scriptures reveal will take place over a three and a half year time period. Not for just one day, which would clearly be an impossibility.

Besides being a time of judgment, it will also be a time of salvation as God will deliver the remnant of Israel, fulfilling His promise that “all of Israel will be saved” (Romans 11:26), forgiving their sins and restoring His chosen people to the land He promised to Abraham

Here is the contemporary genetic profile of your Israel:

From Judaism Today:

"And indeed, the number of people in the world today with the “Abrahamic Genetic Signature” is too large to count precisely. A reasonable estimate is in the hundreds of millions."

This doesn't count non-ethnic converts to Judaism, which would be millions more.

Hundreds of millions of genetic Jews around the globe who are completely unaware of it.

Population of Israel in 2015: 8.38 million

Where would you propose to fit at least 20 times more than the current population? Ignoring, for the moment, the spiritual irrelevance of ethnicity.

1Th 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
1Th 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
1Th 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
1Th 4:18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
1Th 5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
1Th 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

2Th 1:6  Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;
2Th 1:7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
2Th 1:8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
2Th 1:9  Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
2Th 1:10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Rev 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
Rev 16:16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

1 Thess.4:13-18 pertains to the teaching of the pre-trib rapture of the Church, by Paul. In verse 15, he alludes to his teachings, as have come by the Lord's own word.

in 1 Thess.5, reference is made by Paul to non-believers the Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, while assuring believers they are not of the non-believers that event is going to happen to.

in 2 Thes.2:1-8, Paul refers to the timing of the Lords return for them, that will take place before the man of lawlessness is revealed, who triggers the seven year tribulation, i.e. the Day of the Lord, as recorded in Dan.9:27.

Reference is made to Jesus second coming to the earth with His church, in His armies from heaven [verse 14], fighting the battle of Armageddon against the two beasts, i.e. the Antichrist, the False Prophet and the ten horns/nations allied to them. Destroying the armies of the ten horns/nations and throwing the Antichrist and the False Prophet into the lake of fire, and ending the tribulation, as recorded in Rev.19:11-21.

In Gen.15:18-21 are the boudaries of Israel God gave them. It has not yet been fulfilled - but it will be:

“On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram and said, ‘To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates — the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites.’

In the next age as described in Rev.21, the size of the New Jerusalem is a 1,500 mile cube. 1,500 miles long, 1,500 miles wide and 1,500 miles high. They should fit into that without any problem I believe.

Bad to you, Quasar, I have shown many prophesies that say the DoL is just a one, literal day event. Sure it is impossible to fit the 7 Trumpets and 7 Bowls of the Great Trib into it, because they all happen years later, AFTER the time gap of the Seventh Seal.
It is error to combine the terrible Day of the Lord's wrath with the 3.5 year G.T., that will take place just prior to Jesus' Return.

So you agree that there will be far more that just Jews in the New Israel? The new nation of Beulah, Isaiah 62:1-5.
Note that mathematically and genetically, after 100 + generations since the Patriarchs, EVERY person alive today must have some of their DNA.
But that fact is irrelevant in the face of New Testament teaching; All who believe and are born again in the Spirit, are Israelites, God's people, His Overcomers. Christians, be they Jew or Gentile. Galatians 3:6-9 & 26-29

There is no 'special redemption' for the Jews or anyone who reject the Way offered by Jesus. John 3:16

The Day of the Lord and the Day of Christ, are not the same. [A KJV miss-translation in 2 Thess.2:2.] Quasar92

Hi Quasar,

I totally agree with you. God is very specific in His word and not sloppy or interchanging words as we do, but specifically delineates the 3 Days -

1. The Day of Christ.
2. The Day of the Lord (God Almighty - judgments)
3. The Day of God.

The Apostle Peter was given a revelation of some specifics -

`The Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.......looking for and hastening the coming of the Day of God.` (2 Peter 3: 10 - 12)

The Day of the Lord -

- The Tribulation which will come upon them as pains upon a pregnant woman - beginning of sorrows.
- the specific day the Lord comes in power and great glory.
- the millennium, Christ`s rule over the nations judging with a rod of iron. (Immediate consequences for sin.)
- The earth and heavens burnt up.

The Day of God.

The New Heavens and New Earth under the rulership of Christ under God the Father.

God`s prophetic calendar. Clear precise and worthy of study.

regards, Marilyn.

BTW you probably knew this Quasar, but I thought I`d post it for those who had not looked into it.

Joshua 21
43 And the Lord gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.

44 And the Lord gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the Lord delivered all their enemies into their hand.

45 There failed not ought of any good thing which the Lord had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.
