The church has been going down that road for at least a decade now. When the great majority of members have absorbed the idea that a good pagan who never hear of Christ but tries to do his best according to his own religion is going to be saved, universalism cannot be far behind.

Didn't the Apostles think "soon" meant "in their lifetimes"? Weren't they almost sure of it? Didn't Jesus imply it? Didn't Revelation being addressed to the church leaders of the time indicate that?

Tell that to Gallup which surveyed all the major denominations and found that Roman Catholics are WAY ahead of all others when it comes to believing that anyone can be saved through being good, even if they never knew of Christ. Only 9% disagreed with the proposition.

Sweetheart whether it was 2,000 years ago OR in 2 hours, this ole girl plans on being ready and my lamps filled with oil, for the time has no bearing on me, HE said many will be sleeping and going about their daily business, true we carry on, BUT we keep watching for Him, because HE IS coming in an hour that we do not expect. It isn't panic for me, it is anticipation to "see" the Lord of all lords and King of all kings, He said He was coming for me and I believe Him.

While I hope for Universal Reconciliation, I also recognize that this is a growing trend theologically, and that it is not neccesarily how things will work in the end. A growing apathy / enmity towards Scriptural gender roles, sexual restraint, and conservatism in general on one end of the scale, and an embrace of Universalism on the other seem to be going hand in hand these days. While I hope that all men may be saved through Christ, I have to concede that this move bodes badly for those in the Catholic Church who hold to those Apostolic, True, and Scriptural truths. To replace a relatively conservative voice with a Universalist is pretty much a sign of the times, and an indicator, imho, of Francis' true colours.
