Why not?
But the New Jerusalem as described above, doesn't come down until after the Millennium. There will be a new Temple built by God's Israelite peoples, all the true Christian believers who will occupy the holy Land before Jesus Returns. Ezekiel 43:10-12

God doesn't change and He required a Temple for worship with offerings, before and He will have another; as is plainly stated in 2 Thessalonians 2:4 and Revelation 11:1

Why will there be a "temple with offerings"? What does this accomplish?

In reference to the New Jerusalem coming down (as described in God's Word), what is the purpose of a "literal millennium" on earth before that?

The new Temple will be the place of worship for the nations. Just read Zechariah 14:16-21 and see this truth. Thank offerings and sacrifices will be made in it. Ezekiel 45:13-25, Isaiah 56:6-7, Zephaniah 3:10, Revelation 1:1
That there will be another Temple is well prophesied and is proved by 1 Corinthians 10:11, where what happened to the ancient Israelites were examples and previews of the final fulfilment.

The Millennium is the time that Jesus will reign a King. It is His reward and also mankind's, as we will live under the best kind of Government; a benevolent dictatorship.

Jesus will reign on a decaying, dying, and cursed earth?

And what is the purpose of the "sacrifices"?

No, many prophesies say this era will be prosperous and happy. Psalms 46:8-11, Isaiah 65:17-25, Micah 4:1-4, Isaiah 33:20-24, +
And what is the purpose of the "sacrifices"?
As I do not have the mind of God, you need to ask Him. However the prophesies do say there will be thank offerings and sacrifices for cleansing.

Yet this earth we are on right now is decaying, dying, and cursed.

"sacrifices for cleansing"?

Wasn't Jesus the ultimate and FINAL "Sacrifice" when He died on the cross, shedding His blood, for our sins, saying "It is finished"?

Not for our "cleansing" or justification before God. However, once it was required to bring a sacrifice before coming before the Lord, and it appears it will de that way once more for those who survive the carnage and make it into that kingdom alive. It seems in that new dispensation some other things will be revived as well, such as the observance of the Feast of Booths for both Jews and Gentiles (Zechariah 14-16:19).

Jesus' was the final and long-awaited righteous and spotless "Lamb of God" Sacrifice, was He not?

It wasn't "enough"?

Yup, it was. And yet scripture tells us there will be a sacrifice reinstated. If really doesn't tell us the purpose, but not all sacrifices were for sin. I believe it would be a mistake to assume that is it's purpose without evidence.

All sacrifices were a "stand-in" until the spotless and sinless Lamb of God paid ALL of it. And it was "done", "paid" when He shed His blood on the cross and said "It is finished".

God Himself says that His own will worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.

When the temple curtain ripped right down the center, therein the "separation" from a holy God was removed.

We "rest" now on what Jesus the Christ, the only begotten Son of the living God, accomplished by His sacrifice.

"This" only is pleasing to God.

No "supplements" are necessary.

Are they?

They are necessary for some reason, otherwise they wouldn't be reinstated. Idon't really know the purpose and Idon't actually have to know. All I have to do is see they will be reinstated in part and believe what it says.

Wouldn't it be important to find out?

Otherwise, how would you know if you're pleasing God or not?

Or even possibly insulting Him?

Isn't it crucial to be very clear on what pleases God and what doesn't?

Isn't that what we, as believers, are living for?

Sure, when that time comes and the sacrifice is reinstated, I'll find out. Different dispensations have different rules. I don't know why in that day the Gentiles will start traveling to Jerusalem to observe the Feast of Booths either. But when it happens, I'll know why.

What is your understanding of the history/origin of Millennialism?

Well, Jesus mentions when He returns to setup His knigdom the 12 apostles will sit on 12 thrones and judge the 12 tribes of Israel. Daniel gives us glimpses into the details of that kingdom, as well as Ezekiel, Isaiah, Zechariah, Joel, and a few others. So when we should now be expecting such a kingdom, the information in Revelation is given to John and we are told the duration of that kingdom will last for 1,000 years. That actually would make sense if one believes our 7-day creation gave us a type and shadow of our current age where the 7th day was meant for rest.

His Kingdom is within us, not "seen" by human eyes, for He is ALREADY within us, just as it is written that we are "in" Christ right now. He emphasized that His Kingdom is not of this world.

Did He not?

Maybe where you live, it is. But I live in New Zealand and its the opposite of that.

Ezekiel 43:21 says bulls will be killed for the purification offering.
Jesus' sacrifice does cleanse the sins of those who believe in Him, but plainly God still does require offerings for other purposes.

He also said that He and members of His Church will rule the nations with a rod of iron. Different dispensations have different rules.

The entire earth. It will pass away and there will be a new heaven and earth after the decaying, dying and sin-cursed earth is destroyed.

Regarding sacrifice....what do you mean by a "purification" sacrifice, and what offerings are you saying that God requires?

On a side note, before sin entered the world, was there "sacrifice" of any kind?

For the purpose of the Son getting His kingdom, as promised.

And no, not in this "current decaying, dying, sin-cursed world". In a world where the devil is no longer an influence, and where Jesus and the perfected saints run everything. A world where the rulership has been transferred from the god of this world to the God of Heaven and Earth.

Right now, you are seeing a world heading as fast as it can into choas and subject to the upcoming fury of God Himself. It won't always be this way.
