I was only sharing #1 to make sure they are saved and to know that God promises us in His Word that we are guaranteed salvation.

It's not that I want to be a downer, I just want them to seek their own hearts and make sure they are settled with God.

I apologize if I came across wrong... was just adding to your post for those who are struggling. Ones who because the enemy has them trapped in fear... will take your advice and think they have to do this every time the enemy haunts them

Blessings

But the bible also says to fear God. Also if we don't follow the bible, we burn. The problem is that in this modern age I find it difficult how to interpret certain statutes in the bible.
Fear God as in respect and honor Him. Jesus plainly said that all who call upon His name will be saved. We've been sealed until the day of redemption. It also says no man is saved by works.

The Bible says that fear is the beginning of wisdom. But once one is in Christ, love and faith cast out fear.

Hope this article from Got Questions (www.gotquestions.org) helps. It's an awesome site, spot on Biblically it answers almost every question someone could have from the BIble.

Question: "How is the fear of the Lord the beginning of wisdom?"

Answer:
Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Basically, this verse teaches that the fear of God is foundational to true wisdom; all other types of learning are worthless unless built upon a knowledge of the Lord Himself. Many other passages talk about the fear of the Lord (e.g., Psalm 111:10; Proverbs 1:7; 14:27; 15:33). Before we can understand how the fear of the Lord leads to wisdom, we need to define what the Bible means by “fear” in this context.

In the Bible, the word translated “fear” can mean several things. It can refer to the terror one feels in a frightening situation (Deuteronomy 2:25). It can mean “respect” in the way a servant fears his master and serves him faithfully (Joshua 24:14). Fear can also denote the reverence or awe a person feels in the presence of greatness (Isaiah 6:5). The fear of the Lord is a combination of all of these.

Fear of the Lord can be defined as “the continual awareness that our loving heavenly Father is watching and evaluating everything we think, say, and do” (Matthew 12:36; Psalm 139:2; Jeremiah 12:3). As Jesus told each of the seven churches in Revelation 1—2, “I know your works.” Nothing escapes His attention.

In order to develop the fear of the Lord, we must recognize God for who He is. We must glimpse with our spirits the power, might, beauty, and brilliance of the Lord God Almighty (Revelation 11:17; Hosea 12:5; Isaiah 6:1–5). Those who fear the Lord have a continual awareness of Him, a deep reverence for Him, and sincere commitment to obey Him.

Proverbs 1:7 says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” This verse gives us some added insight with its antithetical parallelism—there is a sharp contrast between the wise life and the foolish life. A wise person fears/reverences/obeys the Lord; a fool despises God’s instruction and cannot be told what to do. The wise person is wise because he has started at the starting place; the fool has no foundation on which to build wisdom.

Romans 1:21–22 speaks of those who “neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools.” This is a description of people who try to obtain wisdom while ignoring God—it cannot be done for the simple reason that God is the source of wisdom.

The link between the fear of God and wisdom means we cannot possess wisdom if we recreate God in our own image. Too many people want to “tame” God into a non-threatening nobody. But, if we redefine the Lord as a god that makes us feel comfortable, a permissive “buddy” who exists simply to bless us and give us what we want, we will not fear Him in the way He deserves to be feared. The Lord God Almighty is far greater than that, and the fear of the Lord begins when we see Him in His majesty and power (Revelation 4:11; Job 42:1–2) The Lord shows Job (and us) a glimpse of His power in Job 38—41 when He describes His absolute sovereignty over everything.

When the reality of God’s true nature has caused us to fall down in worship, we are then in the right position to gain wisdom. Wisdom is merely seeing life from God’s perspective and responding accordingly. Wisdom is a priority, and we are told to seek it above all else (Proverbs 3:13; 16:16). Proverbs is known as the wisdom book, and the entire second chapter gives a detailed explanation of the value of gaining wisdom.

Until our hearts are in a right relationship with God, we are unable to have the “wisdom that comes from heaven” (James 3:17). Without the fear of the Lord, we may gain knowledge of earthly things and make some practical choices for this life, but we are missing the one ingredient that defines a wise person (Psalm 14:1; Exodus 20:3; 34:14; Jeremiah 25:6; Matthew 22:37). In the parable of the rich farmer, the rich man had a “wise” and practical plan for his profits, but God said to him, “You fool!” because the farmer’s plans were made with no thought of God and eternity (Luke 12:16–21).

Without the fear of the Lord, we make final decisions based on our faulty human understanding (Proverbs 3:5–6). When we incorporate the fear of the Lord into every moment of our lives, we make decisions based upon His approval. We live with the knowledge that the Creator of the universe is intimately involved in our every move. He sees, knows, and evaluates all our choices, and we will answer to Him (Psalm 139:1–4).

Our respect for God’s majesty causes us to honor Him (Psalm 29:2). Our gratitude for His mercy causes us to serve Him well (Psalm 2:11; 107:15). And the understanding that our God of love is also a God of wrath inspires enough fear to help us stay away from evil (Romans 1:18; Proverbs 8:13). Sin is foolish; righteousness is wise. When we live righteously, we are on the path to wisdom, and everyone in our lives benefits (Proverbs 13:20; 19:8).

How is the fear of the Lord the beginning of wisdom?

There is no Scripture that says God laughs at us, whom are seeking Him. His heart is actually saddened when we are struggling. Much like Jesus weeping over Jerusalem because they were rejecting Him.

The verse he quoted is proverbs 1:26 And of you read above it a couple of verses it's about people who ignore God and want nothing to so with him. Not for a believer.

I just feel so frightened because what if it's me? I thought I was saved and strayed and ignored it in that time and now despair is on me and God might hate me.

Why don't I pray with you.

Dear Lord, please help bring peace to DeerGlow and the other people on this thread that are in fear of their salvation and of hell in particular. That they may grow their faith in you, because you are a faith builder and want all your children to be at peace and to rest in you when their life is hard. So please show them your peace in their heart and that they can rest in you. In your perfection. That you cannot tell an untruth, because their is only Truth in You. Please help them in their thoughts that they do not think about this all the time as it is very scrary for them and not edifying. I ask this in Jesus Holy name. Amen.

This fear could be positive for you if you recognize God is calling you to Himself. That is actually very beautiful minus the fear, which must be incredible. God's ways are not our ways. But He has a plan for you. And a plan for me. Different plans but both glorious in that we can serve Him.

Hold fast to your faith and knowledge of God's perfection. He cannot lie to you.

I grew up in a household where comedy reigned. Even the Catholic Church wasn't sacred. Comedians on TV such as Monty Python, Ronnie Barker, Ronnie Corbett, Dave Allen, Dick Emery, Norman Gunston and so on. It was hard to take Hell seriously to be honest.
But I sense that when we age and are staring death in the face with a serious illness like Cancer, we get a shock. Maybe its hard to see the funny side to life anymore. This must be what fear of the Lord is.
"Wake up! Respect your body! Respect others and Respect me for Goodness sake.!" Those of us who haven't taken God seriously, finally need to. Maybe there is an awakening, where we see Heaven and Hell at the same time.
But my problem with this fear of God is it when it turns into obsession. And some of us are hypersensitive and it gets all out of proportion.

I've spoken to counselors about it. I think they consider a type of OCD.

I just think we have to be very careful as Christians in not reinforcing the punishment of Hell when witnessing or evangelising. Some people need to hear it more than others. The ones who are laughing in God's face by adopting a hedonistic lifestyle for instance. or the ones who deliberately choose evil, like the drug dealer who says "If I don't do it, someone else will." These people need a serious wake up call. Oh and some of us Pharisees who think we are God's gift to God and the human race. But the sensitive ones (Deer Glow, can I mention you here as an example?) will take the ball and run with it. It starts to preoccupy their mind. Not healthy, not useful. Counter productive.

Read this article by CNN, it's called Scrupulocity and I've met many, many people on CF who have it.

You are not alone, sweetie. You have this thing and stay strong.

Yeah I go from functional and slightly productive to want to hide under a blanket and pause life for a second.

The one about laughing at your calamity scares me. Like when you get fear and seek God early, He might laugh at your despair? You call and He ignores you?
2 I will utterly consume all things from off the land, saith the LORD.
3 I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea,
and the stumbling blocks with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the LORD.
6 And them that are turned back from the LORD; and those that have not sought the LORD,
nor enquired for him.

Zephaniah 1:2-3
2 For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received
a just recompence of reward;
3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by
the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
Hebrews 2:2-3
33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.
34 Blessed is the man that hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.
35 For whoso finds me finds life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.
36 But he that sins against me wrongs his own soul: all they that hate me love death.
Proverbs 8:33-36

I agree and i find it interesting that when people were being saved in the bible it wasn't for fear of hell but from a desire to have their sins forgiven.

I notice how no-one was ever freaking out in the Bible whenever hell is mentioned.

Every since I renewed my faith in God and Jesus, I can't stop thinking about it. I also can't stop thinking about everyone else either and about how they are likely going to hell. Am I alone in this?

1. If you are "saved," your salvation is assured. This is something in which you can put full confidence. Resist evil, seek forgiveness for sin, and believe in the promises of God.

Christ's victory is over the sin nature of humanity. The Atonement is sufficient for all humanity for all time, and can not fail.

Our faith in Christ is in part faith in this Truth, as it is entertwined with the person and purpose of Christ.

2. Other people aren't our concern, beyond the scope of proclaiming to them the Gospel.

Our proclamation can't convert anyone to Christ. Only the Holy Spirit can do that.

God's justice is superior to human justice and often beyond the ability of humanity to even comprehend.

We can't know the destiny of any soul beyond our own. It is between God and the individual.

3. Faith as a means of evading eternal punishment isn't faith, any more than faith motivated by gaining eternal reward.

Our faith is response to Truth, and is a gift of the Holy Spirit, to glorify God.

I am not worried about going to Hell - not because I am good enough to make it into Heaven, but because I have FAITH in Jesus Christ and He PROMISED me eternal life in Heaven! Amen...

I know it can be very distressing to contemplate that some people will go to hell. First, for you personally, you should have absolutely no fear. You have surrendered yourself to the mercies of God through His Son Jesus who loves you with an unfailing love. He will correct us because we are His, but He will never condemn us. As far as others, I am comforted by certain reflections of His mercy. In the Catholic Mass there is part of a prayer where we pray for those "whose faith is known to You alone, Oh God". Some people have a faith that is known only to God and we may never know if people in the last hour repent or not, but God knows. I'm no longer Catholic, but I gained a positive perspective from my upbringing. The thief on the cross repented at the last moment. He did not mock God, he did not make excuses for himself, he simply asked for mercy and received it. The enemy wants us paralyzed with fear when we instead should pray for our friends and loved ones that they will come to know him. Man's free will and the devil's manipulations are no match for our Father who will hear & answer our prayers.

Unfortunately I have encountered one who spoke "Christian ease" but who truly was using this false front as access to hurt others. Such a person, without real repentance, is on major thin ice. And hell is a place of judgement. God is a God of justice and mercy. This encounter has forced me to rethink many things related to faith. Jesus said the last shall be first, and the first shall be last. He alone is wise enough to judge. We cannot. We must not rely on appearances.
