Hey Everyone,
After trying to be polite on other sections of this forum, I've come to realize that CF is not beneficial for me at all (in fact, it is causing me to get angry most of the time) and I'm going to delete my account.

I would ask that you keep my family and me in your prayers as hopefully, I will get transferred to a new position in Virginia Beach from Boston sometime this fall. You can hit me up on the old yahoo group for those that remember it.

In Christ,
Brian

I second All4Christ, and I know many here do that as well.

I would regret losing your presence here. But we don't all have to be crusaders. It has been easier for me because my SF forbid me from "arguing" online a couple of years ago, and while I probably step over the line sometimes, keeping that in mind helps. Staying out of contentious areas helps MUCH MORE. Most Orthodox, in fact, stay in TAW, and I don't blame them. I often retreat here, and don't pursue purposely those more contentious areas.

You can't actually delete your account, btw (unless they've changed it and I don't know). You can be banned, but I wouldn't recommend that, as it will show on any posts you've ever made.

Is there a yahoo group that's worth conversing on? I've actually had to drop way down on my participation here, but I might have a chance to follow along sometime.

We will miss you if you go!

You will joining the ranks of others who have found it to be a wise choice. I still miss Oblio and Rdr Iacobus and a bunch of others who found the wisdom of stepping away from their computers.

I'm thankful for the ones who stayed though and the ones who helped me learn about Orthodoxy! I understand the frustration though, and the balance we need to have.

On the one hand, I understand that.

And I have to step back at times myself. But so many of us don't live near a parish, and so many of us found Orthodoxy only through an online presence, some have temporary or permanent health issues that keep them home (and I know because I've been all three, and there are other reasons I'm probably unaware of) so there is such a great need for some possible connection and presence. I guess I'm always somewhat aware of this.

But of course, there is also the individual Christian's need. Each of us is responsible for ourselves.

I just wish for ways to balance both sets of needs ...

I'm new here. So I hate to see anyone leave.
otoh, I have engaged quite a few filters on the forums since arriving here, so I understand.

Godspeed.

I can't imagine where I'd be if no one had been posting here for me to find Orthodoxy. Best case scenario, maybe I'd be Lutheran or Anglican. But given family opposition, neither of them would likely be enough. I'd most likely be struggling in a non-denomination or else having given up going to church altogether, in my particular case. Lord have mercy!

I hear you brother.
This place leads to the confessional time and time again...

I've been considering the same thing myself for quite some time.

God bless you.

I think you are making a wise decision. I have left in the past only to be drawn back in. Why do I get drawn back in? Probably because I have a passion for discussing ideas and believing that mature well-intentioned dialogue serves us all. Sadly, however, the evidence suggests this is a pipe-dream, at least here. There is way too much hate, racism, and downright zany thinking here for me. I hope to have the discipline to kick the CF habit and seek a more healthy environment - preferably one involving real face-to-face interaction.

Sad.

I actually came here looking for advice on church issues troubling me.

Some threads were interesting and I joined in civilly.

In the short time here, I've been told I'm not a Christian, I'm the Devil, I'm a racist and a liar.

Way too many insults, name calling and general snarkyness for the name of the forum...in my lowly opinion.

Probably bailing soon.

By the way, such things are against the rules. Unfortunately, people do join and say things they should not say. The best way to deal with it is the report button, so they can be made aware of how they should communicate, mentored if they are willing, and hateful words removed. Or if they insist on being insulting, their posting privileges may have to be revoked, to protect others. Staff can't be everywhere at once, so it's actually helpful if you report.

I have reported. But stopped now. Haven't noticed results, but here's to hoping.

Sometimes results are painfully slow, depending on how many reports are backed up. At times I share your frustration. But it's still the best method for getting things done.

One more point ... if you report, you shouldn't quote that post and argue against it. Some mods are of the opinion that if you engage with a post, you approve it in a way. Not sure if you've done that or not. But it's best to report and ignore, or else just reply in general terms without quoting the person.

Ooops.

Thanks. I tried to ask people to quit calling others liars, etc. Also defended myself from being called racist, etc.
I'll try to resist the urge to defend myself and others.

Thanks.

Hi Brother ..I am not Orthodox regarding a denomination ( but believe I am Orthodox in my conversion to the faith of Jesus Christ and the consequent cost associated with being a believer. )
I can not help but notice the "spirit" in which things here are written. By their fruits, you will know them. Men do not gather figs from thorns , etc.
I also think forums can be dangerous in that if I agree with someone or they agree with me, it has the danger of lifting me up in pride . If I disagree , it can possibly lead me to be in the wrong spirit ( anger or the unseen danger of " holier than thou " because of knowledge . ) The last one is maybe the biggest danger as it is so hard to detect .
I am sorry that other followers of Christ often disparage others but that may be more of a blessing than a curse as it allow us to "die to self " ...I was just reading in Kings where shimei cursed King David and David was humble enough to say "" Hey , let him curse me " ..more or less , who cares ..God is the final judge.
Anyway , I just wanted to let you know that I understand your reasoning ...may our Lord and Savior Bless you on your pilgrimage here until He return .

Yet another point. ;)

I have the problem of people agreeing/approving as much as I do arguing. BOTH can stir the passion of pride.

To be honest, the forums do three things for me. One is edification, where I read good posts in fellowship from other believers. One is the recognition of sin in myself when passions are stirred by posts of various kinds. And the third is practice in trying to respond in love to those that are not easy to love.

All are beneficial. Though I often fail - yet the forums afford me constant practice. Glory to God!

Two things that I find helpful for sanity-preservation in navigating forums:

1. Use the Ignore feature when you feel you need it. I do this very rarely, and even when I do, I only keep someone on Ignore for a short period of time, because it is so effective that it seems like they've fallen off the edge of the earth, and I’m the sort that likes to have all the voices in the choir singing their part; something’s missing when they're missing, otherwise. Plus I never know when they might post something that is life-changing and rob myself of yet another amazing paradigm-shift.
7_Enyz6BhvabgjMzOmYcxS7fFUMQn9m0wsyy8y_sLEf00kuDzQT0pnn5dlT3q6eJAehs8SgWzQEcaYnpD9GEt6xe9AmgJoqmWvztIzQrJ13bgis0bD7IJix61YbiiHxPlJUZSliZ

2. Also, an approach that I've seen others do here is to post my input on a thread and then immediately "Unwatch" the thread so I'm not tempted to get pulled into an argument stemming from something I said. At the end of the day, it's not what others say to me, or how they say it, it's my response thereto that can cause me problems. My ego likes to jump in and defend that which really doesn't need defense, and when I get sucked too far into debating, my mind closes up and I don't learn as much. Plus it robs me of peace and takes my focus off my sweet Lord. So I keep it to one post and move on, since my aim is to inform, rather than to argue.

Well, for me as a permanent expat and emigrant, being able to communicate somewhere with people in my native language is non-negotiable. So I'm still here...
