Briefly, for those I know it isn't a matter of end of the world stuff. The sinkholes they encountered were due to having houses sold to them by unscrupulous Realtors. Realtors who failed to tell them that generations ago that land had been a landfill. Subsequently over the years settling caused the properties to plummet literally.

This is a worldwide phenomenon, and though this may be true for a few, I doubt this is so for all of them.

A couple of giant sinkholes in the West Texas oil patch are apparently expanding, and might eventually converge into one gigantic hole.

The sinkholes are about a mile apart and sit between Wink and Kermit off I-20 west of Midland-Odessa. They were caused by lots of oil and gas extraction, which peaked from the mid-1920s to the mid-1960s, according to researchers at Southern Methodist University.

Satellite radar images indicate that the giant sinkholes are expanding and that new ones are forming “at an alarming rate” as nearby subsidence occurs, they report in the scientific journal Remote Sensing. One is 361 feet across, about the size of a football field; the other is larger, 670 to 900 feet across.

“A collapse could be catastrophic,” said geophysicist Jin-Woo Kim, who leads the SMU geophysical team reporting the findings.

A dramatic video has emerged of a large sinkhole opening on a pedestrian street in Lanzhou, Gansu Province, China.

In the footage, captured on Tuesday, pedestrians can be seen running away from the collapsing pavement.

Several people fell in the hole, two of which had to be sent to hospital for minor injuries.

A natural sink hole is caused by underground water flow. Almost all of Florida is on limestone with plenty of underground water so the appearance of sink holes is very common. That and the increase in human population makes them seem more frequent. The actual frequency has not increased. In cities sink holes are usually the result of leakage from broken water mains or sewer pipes undermining streets a and walkways. Like the "blood moons" they are a natural phenomenon and not a sign of anything more than that.

Thank God for someone with a little levity!!!

I live in Florida. I have seen sinkholes and I have been to several just to look. At the bottom of every single sink hole is water.

The more people consume water, the more fragile the limestone under ground becomes until.......crack and down goes the sand.

I think you misunderstood what I said. I certainly do believe in sinkholes. One would have to be a little removed from reality to not believe in them wouldn't they? I just do not think that they are precursors of a prophetic event. It seems as though you believe that and may the Lord Bless you in your belief! I support your opinion 100%.

But in the same way, we should have the ability to say when we do not agree with your thinking. Allow me to tell you a fact. We live in Central Florida. From about Lake City south, Florida is nothing but a giant sand pile. NO Dirt, NO clay, just sand. When it rains, the sand is washed away. Just in October, Hurricane Matthew washed away several mile of US 1 from Ormond Beach to Palm Coast because the sand washed away and the highway fell in.

We also live about 10 miles from the largest city in Volusia county named Deltona. It was bought and developed back in the 60's by the Mackle Brothers. They came in and filled in low areas, swampy places and even some lakes with sand and then sold that land to people up north to build on who had no idea it would be underwater or that the bottom would fall out it time. As more people moved there, more and more sand washed away and was used up. As a result, one sink hole after another has developed over the years so that now it is not even news but is expected.

Those holes are not representative of the 2nd Coming of Christ but instead are the evidence of unscrupulous business men who wanted to make a buck.

SAN ANTONIO - SAN ANTONIO -- A Bexar County deputy is dead after her car was swallowed by a sudden sinkhole in a southwest-side road Sunday night.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office identified her as Deputy Dora Linda (Solis) Nishihara in a Facebook post early Monday afternoon.

"Deputy Nishihara worked as a Reserve Deputy from August 2009 to October 2016 before transitioning to a part-time Deputy at the Bexar County Courthouse in October of this year," the department wrote on Facebook. "We are assisting her family as they deal with this tragedy.”

Being a retired physicist, I am naturally interested. Can you provide references to reports in scientific journals. I am naturally skeptical of video reports and my time is precious. I thank you.

A sizable sinkhole has mysteriously formed in front of US President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, and the Internet saw the perfect opening for a cacophony of "hellish" jokes, theories and memes. On Monday (22 May), town officials posted an advisory about the 4ft-wide sinkhole that appeared on Southern Boulevard, close to the southern entrance of the "winter White House."

"A 4' x 4' sinkhole has formed on Southern Boulevard directly in front of Mar-a-Lago," the alert read. "It appears to be in the vicinity of the newly installed water main. West Palm Beach Utilities distribution crews have secured the area and will most likely need to do some exploratory excavation today."

As repair crews conduct an exploratory dig and work to repair the hole, Twitter, on the other hand, has erupted with a slew of jokes about the hole, theories about its cause and sarcastic comments about what it represents.

While many pointed to the amount of money and time Trump has spent on his trips to the lavish resort, others saw it as a "really obvious sign" of an "increasingly irritated God".

Other social media users sarcastically said the hole opened up after Trump, King Salman of Saudi Arabia and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt touched a glowing orb during his recent visit to Riyadh - another incident that lit up the Internet.
