• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I just want to be straight forward...
Is it possible? I've been living with anxiety so long I just don't know... I also don't want to suffer if its not possible for me. I don't have much faith so...if holistic methods don't work...medication will probably have to be a possibility.

Also thos3 who have anxiety...please post medications that work for you and how to go about getting medication please :)

I had anxiety and depressive episodes as a child through till my late twenties. I've been relatively anxious free since 2015 (helped a lot by moving away from triggers) and only a couple of short term dips since then. I was never medicated as I was afraid to get hooked (drug and alcohol addiction/abuse in the family across multiple generations). Family and friends prayers for years helped my recovery I was too out of it to help myself.

If your anxiety is a daily debilitation I would seek medical and psychological intervention.

Dear soul,

It is possible! Don't worry about (of course, that is like telling an ant eater to not eat ants,) holistic stuff. Find a good doctor that will help you find the RIGHT drug for you.

I have CD, and I use Wellbutrin every day. God has provided that for me. With a little work on your part and the part of the doctor, God will show you the correct medicine.

You definitely can! The reason why I've been replying to your threads is because I care about you and want you to be healthy! I believe in you and know you can do it. I want to help others overcome their depression and anxiety like I did. It takes a full surrendering to God and putting your faith and trust in Him. That's not an easy task, as we often take matters into our own hands.

there are ways to get rid of anxiety, like taking over when a panic attack starts to form or whatever. Getting away from the stressor, listening to relaxing music, taking deep breaths, meditating, etc, all help.

My sister got meds and they really worked. She stayed on them for a time and she was a much happier person. Think of it like a short term deal to help you get through this time.

Yeah but it makes me feel like less of a Christian...but clenching my teeth anything to make this work isn't helping...but I'm still not that bad. When I know I can't take it any more then ill go the medication route.

I think it is possible to be healed of anxiety. I want to try some herb teas for anxiety and holistic methods. I will try them in the future and say if anything helped.

You go about getting the right meds by going to the Dr.

And when it is found that IS God's healing for you this side of the Kingdom.

Christ is risen!

Hi, I've had to deal with anxiety in my life as well. It got so bad for me that I had to stay away from working environments and leave my home town. With me it was a combination of PTSD, high stress levels, and being overcome with daily exhaustion caused by Sleep Apnea. The stress caused me to gain 70 pounds in all.

Well luckily for me I was finally able to lean on my family for the first time in my life. I live now with my mother, brother, and sister that I wasted years looking down on. They were able to do for me what I couldn't do for them. After I've had just over 2 years of being with them now, I've been able to make a few changes that made me a bit better.

The first thing I did was ween myself of caffeine. Caffeine was a crutch for me for years and at my worst I had like 8 cans and 5 12 oz bottles in a day. I went to the doctors to get a CPAP machine that helps me breathe at night. I tried working out, but when my back gave out multiple times I decided to count calories instead and lost about 30 pounds in the last 2 months or so.

However, the biggest change I made was from reading the bible and watching christian videos on youtube. This has helped me prioritize my life a little bit and it helps me to find the faults that I had in myself. Fully surrendering your life to Jesus and telling him all your sins will help lift the heaviest burdens from anyone. All you have to do is believe in him while you do this, and trust him with all your heart. You don't need to say anything out loud, just speak from the heart and he will hear you.

I don't know what your situation right now is, so I've included my experiences in hopes that these things will help you. From where I am now I still need to find a church I can go to in order to keep myself from being fed to the wolves again. Satan very much still wants me in his clutches.

Trust in the voice in your heart telling you what you should do, because it is there to guide you to what you need. Find what you need to change in your life and ask for help from everyone around you. There are people all over these threads, and people that do live christian streams all the time that can help ease your mind when you need help.

I will pray for you and I hope you find what you need. If you need someone to talk to, I'm here, and there are many others here that can help you if you just ask. I hope I helped in easing your mind, if even just a little.

Anxiety is absolutely terrible. I suffer with it and it can be debilitating.

I have tried different things too.

I hope that God will answer my prayers one day too.

God bless you

Hi Far Side,

I've had anxiety and depression for almost 20 years. For most of that time (including the present) I've been on various anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds. It doesn't make me less of a Christian at all. We live in a fallen world, so our bodies are messed up to various extents. We have anxiety (or depression) often because our brains are messed up. There's nothing wrong with taking meds to correct the problem.

What has worked for me is Effexor, Abilify, and Lorazepam. My MIL used to suffer from anxiety a great deal, but she's been on Paxil, and she has no problem any more.

See a doctor, and you'll soon be feeling amazingly better.

Same here, I just keep waiting and praying hoping it will get better. Like you I am afraid of the various drugs and side effects.

It's like once this thing takes hold it never lets go, terrible.

I've found that talking it out can help greatly. CBT could be a potential treatment path.

I have had better luck with counseling.
I agree with this and also recommend it. I do so from the point of view of one who's received counseling and also a counselor who has seen others make progress that later resulted in being able to dismiss the meds.

My wife and I have a small counseling practice but limit it to people in our area. We haven't expanded to include skype and other video conferencing with patients out of our area but hear that other counselors are counseling long distance with good success.

Bottom line, look to the Lord, use the people and tools He has created and endowed them with, and trust the Lord and His infinite wisdom.

God bless.

With or without medication, anxiety usually never completely goes away, but it can improve. I find combining meds and therapy together to be the most helpful. For me medication has been more helpful than therapy but some of my therapists were not the best, but with the right therapist things can improve.

Indeed, studies seem to indicate that the combination of talk therapy along with medication produces the best outcomes.

Why are you so averse to meds? If you had diabetes, wouldn't you take insulin? This is no different. If you're anxious because your brain is misfiring you need meds to get the misfiring to stop. It's not a sign of weakness, it's a biophysical problem that can be resolved with the right chemicals.

I'm not adverse to meds, I said meds have helped more than therapy. I still take meds.

Edit- Realized I don't think the second part was meant for me? My anxiety is giving me a little confusion, sorry.
