I was in church a while back but one thing I remember the pastor saying was "Right now is the greatest time to ever be alive!" Obviously technology wise it is the most advanced time in history, but are there any reasons you all believe now is not the best time to live? Things like rise of secularism, rise of homosexuality, transgenderism, War, natural disasters etc. Perhaps the further we get in history technology obviously increases and gets better but perhaps morality declines? And if so maybe now is the worst time to be alive from a moral perspective? I mean sure smart phones are like the greatest thing invented since the internet, but is a smart phone worth living in a world filled with immorality?

Technology, like corporations, hs no morality, no heart, no soul, no conscience.

Not trusting in a so-called "smart-phone", and not continuing in that direction - not going on and getting the mark of the world system, may save someone's soul, heart, mind, life and spirit in Christ Jesus.
And might not.

Morality today is just as it was (or wasn't) in the days of Noah,
and in the midst of sodom and gomorrah. (perhaps sodom will rise up in judgment of this generation!?)

Surely there are at least 10 righteous men alive right now? Or do you believe not even one is righteous even today? If there are 10 then I would assume God would say we are doing a little better than sodom and gomorrah at least right now, but who knows just how wicked the world will get in the next 50 years.

..... hold on ...... hold on ..... there it is ..... (helicopters heard by Radar) .....

When our own battery of gun fire decimated villages (friendlies),
it was often covered up....

When our own leaders purposefully decimated our own people , (stateside),
it was always covered up.....

i.e. not in the next 50 years, but in the LAST 150 years !

I used to think so, until a few days ago as I pondered the the Lord taking it all over and the thousand years of peace as he ruled. I'd love to see the take over.

I guess it's a personal thing. I do find it interesting to have seen the
"as in the days of Noah" or the fairly speedy falling away, play out from a world that wasn't so bad to what we have today and I may even see it to the end.

I was born in the mid 50's, at the beginning of the technology of radio and TV and now the internet that all show the world what they could/should do. They get the word out on sin, as if to say, "Everyone is doing it, join the party, and if you must have a religion, go
with one where anything is a go, available for donation (purchase) at a church near you"...people bite and the trap snaps shut.

Yes there are, if there were not, there would be no sense in continuing, just as with S&G.

As far as being a truly devout Christian is concerned, right now is the absolute worst time to be alive in the history of the church. Never has she been weaker, more materialistic, more blind, wretched and poor (Revelation 3:14-22). This is not to say we shouldn't walk in joy. There should always be joy in the hearts of His sons and daughters... but also heartbreak over the present condition of His Bride.

The evil that was sown,
the lies that were sown,
at the beginning of the 20th century (1900 to 1960),
have been and were reaped ever since (many people still believe them).

Realize the times in sodom were very very bad (final , judged, judgment) for all those who did not leave the wickedness and sin;
likewise today , as always, for anyone not only those who already succumbed to the wickednesses already, (having been born into them, and remained evil),
but Salvation is still in JESUS TODAY!
and we may actually see HIS RETURN in person, (or not - no worries there),

and
more importantly: as to how to consider TODAY vs other times,
it is written somewhere that it is unwise to think "if only I had lived back then(in other times), or "if only I had done this or that - something different - years ago - "
as
TODAY, SALVATION IN JESUS IS TODAY, and literally EVERYTHING, everything, not some things, everything all good and all bad,
was orchestrated (made to work) for our GOOD by GOD the ETERNAL ONE, THE CREATOR, and HE knows best, perfectly.

i.e. just, simply, trust and obey HIM with thankfulness and praise to His Name, and joy and peace and righteousness today , now, in His Kingdom - even living now today "in union" , as one, in Jesus in the Father, to His Glory Forever !

I don't doubt what you say. The world is like a person, it began to die soon after it was born, but the aging process is sped up at times.

The moral perspective is a mix. On the one hand, yes, more materialism. On the other hand, there have been many moral advances. Women have more rights than in most times and places. Slavery is outlawed in most places in the world. Many places have child labor laws, and offer free schooling to children. A combination of law, compassion, and technology allows many physically handicapped people to participate in society more fully than they could have done in the past.

I think this is a wonderful time to be alive, both morally and technologically.

With the ballooning population and sharp rise in property prices due to its limited supply, coupled with the widening gulf between the wealthy and the poor; I doubt it is the best time to be alive even on secular grounds.

I read the other day that this generation is about 20% poorer in real terms then their parents at the same age on average. With shortages and climate change and sabre-rattling going on, I don't foresee a brighter future than the previous one. Ipads and phones are a poor compensation and anyway lead to people not interacting with one another and isolating themselves, living a simulcrum of their lives via facebook photos. Life expectancy is not really rising, incomes are static or declining and therapy is a burgeoning industry with the Church largely sidelined from life, gutting many traditional areas in the process.

No, I think the best time to be alive so far lies somewhere in the latter 20th century. But we know it gets worse before the parousia, so its not unexpected.

I think right now is the best time to be alive regardless of what time period the Lord decided I should exist. Everything I do today and tomorrow matter for His Kingdom. Kingdom living is explained in the Bible. It is counter cultural. It has always been counter cultural to truly live for the purposes of God's will in our lives.
