Is the doctrine of Entire Sanctification a Biblical doctrine?

Entire Sanctification teaches that there is a class of Christians who achieve moral perfection in this life.

There is a kind of elitism in the doctrine of Entire Sanctification, a feeling that those who have achieved moral perfection are somehow greater than other Christians.

Isn't Biblical sanctification a LIFELONG PROCESS that is completed only when we go to Heaven??

This is Calvinist website and doctrine?

They believe in predeterminism.

Total Depravity (also known as Total Inability and Original Sin)
Unconditional Election
Limited Atonement (also known as Particular Atonement)
Irresistible Grace
Perseverance of the Saints (also known as Once Saved Always Saved)

For 6 weeks, I attended a church that teaches the doctrine of Entire Sanctification.

The church is like a family.

It is a small, but wonderful church.

However, I am sincerely curious....is the doctrine of Entire Sanctification a Biblical doctrine or is it a man-made doctrine?

Is the doctrine of Entire Sanctification a Biblical doctrine?... Isn't Biblical sanctification a LIFELONG PROCESS that is completed only when we go to Heaven??

I'm no Calvinist, and btw welcome back KAC! Hope your living situation has improved, or is improving.

Anyway, here's my take on sanctification: It is first and foremost the result of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit (2 Thessalonians 2:13; 1 Peter 1:2). "Working out" obedience to that outpouring then becomes the responsibility of the believer, not only in this life but in the next. Will we ever attain to perfect obedience? No, not in this life or in the next. It is part of God's plan, that we never forget the One who paid the sin debt for us, and forever remember our need to be subservient to His Lordship since He died on our behalf.

That having been said, the scriptural command is that we "work out our salvation with fear and trembling, perfecting holiness in the fear of God." Is a command because it is something we are to be ever striving to attain in our desire to be pleasing to our Lord, similar to aspiring to be like a great artist, or musician, or physician, or any other professional at the very top of his field, whom we know we will never measure up to yet so greatly adore that we heed his encouragement to always keep trying.

So it is a command? Yes. Is it attainable? No, not really, as paradoxical as that may sound. It is the wisdom of God, that we will always have at the very least a few things left to perfect, so as to express our undying love for our Lord Jesus Christ, and for our Father.

That's my best. Hope it sticks.

Good to see you back around again.

Hi, K-A! Great to see you!

Once one becomes an authentic Christians (Romans 10:8-13) one is secure for eternity in Christ Jesus, as pointed out in Ephesians 2:8-9, John 5:24, Romans 8:1, just for a couple of examples. "Perfection" in that case is Spiritual Perfection. It can't be anything less. Therefore, sanctification is secured and sustained through God's Amazing Grace.

Hidden in Him, thank you so much for the clarification regarding Biblical sanctification....

As for my living situation....Friday of last week, I finally moved out of my parents' house and found an affordable room in a house that is run by a Christian organization.

Thank you for the warm welcome!!

So the consensus so far seems to be that Entire Sanctification is a man-made doctrine....created by one man? (or a few men)?

See my Post #6. Therefore, sanctification is secured and sustained through God's Amazing Grace.

 I was a little concerned that if you did move out you might not have been able to use the internet, which would have been discouraging for you, I'm sure. Glad to see you've found a way to get back to fellowshipping with us.

And you're welcome.

I've read Wesley's works and biographies.

No problem, just hoping you'd share it with me since I was curious. I noticed you were Methodist, so I figured I'd be getting information from an authoritative source. I happen to respect Wesley a great deal, and rightfully should, so I was looking for some sort of source material proving your point.

No human being achieves moral perfection while existing in this corrupted flesh bodies on earth....

We are only deemed Holy and sanctified while we are believing Jesus and trusting in the atonement He secured for our salvation.. While we are covered by His blood, Our imperfections are covered and we are seen by God as justified / good... But we are not actually Holy in our flesh lives.. As Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him by God as righteousness .. We too are accounted as righteous by God because we believe Jesus and trust in the atonement Jesus secured for the atonement of our sins,

Romans 4: KJV
8 "For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. {4} Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. {5} But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. {6} Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, {7} Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. {8} Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin."

The doctrine that people can achieve a state of sinless perfection while they live on earth in their current carnal flesh state is a deception.. It also causes many who believe it to doubt their own salvation when they do keep on sinning.. But be assured that those who proclaim that they have no sin are not being truthful.. As the scriptures say the truth is not in them..

1 John 1: KJV

8 "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us."

So reject such teachings because if anyone believe that doctrine then the truth is not in them..

Above saying about a lifelong process sounds like the Eastern Christian doctrine of theosis, although it probably continues in heaven. 2 Peter 1:3-4, Romans 8:11-17, 2 Corinthians 3:18
