To me, this kind of thinking is long overdue. I can't even fathom the rules that schools have regarding safe spaces and the huge restrictions to the constitutionally guaranteed free speech. I have read about big employers, like Google, having to coddle new graduates they bring aboard, because they are unprepared to cope in the entry level work environment.

CEO Makes Potential Employees Take a 'Snowflake Test' Before Hiring - Breitbart

I searched, trying to find big name publications that carried this article and could not find one -- its not surprising to me.

I'm all for this. I mean these type of people really can be dangerous to have working at certain places. Seeing how they acted after the election really made my fearful of them working. If you want to be a snowflake in your own home thats one thing. But outside your home we all have to get along and you can't be snowflakey. Like when the college kids cried on campus on the ground and needed free pizza, therapy dogs...etc. Thats not something we need to tolerate.

The only "snowflakes" in existence are the people who truly believe that there are people that they should be calling "snowflakes" as if they are somehow superior to those people. Everyone I know personally who calls other people "snowflakes" is a major loser and lazy bum and moron also - some of them are my friends, but my really dumb and ignorant and bigoted friends who I'm less and less friendly with as time goes on.

Anyway, that article is just more proof of how Breitbart is fake news.

My question is how many of these 'snowflakes' are autistic? This is the first time that so many kids with ASD are entering the workforce. There are some with legitimate mental health issues and there are some who were raised with the "Every kid gets a trophy" policy. You can't generalize people like this.
Would not autism be a documented disability which would be considered by the employer?

It would depend who you ask. I've worked a job that would say that autism is an excuse and assume that autistics were snowflakes.
I believe most forms of autism are under the Disabilities Act. It is something which is uusually well documented during school years in the US.

Well here in Canada, it was either adapt or get left behind for me growing up. I received no such accommodation during my childhood and teenage years. The only job that tolerated my disability is my current job and that was because my boss had a special needs brother who died at the age of 14.

I suffer from Asperger's and had a screwed up childhood so of course I'm likely going to be messed up enough to be considered a snowflake. Like I said, you cannot generalize people because you do not know their histories or situations.
I agree with your assessment of generalizations.

Today in the US both public and private schools do a very good job of testing for learning disabilities and physical disabilities. Then providing strategies for the child.

One reason why I'm not too fond of American conservatives is that while they claim creationism, they actually practice evolution. I can find no love of Jesus in their hearts, just the holier-than-thou attitude for being True Americans (TM)
You mean the various generalizations of American conservatives?

This thread is in a section where only other Christians can reply.

It seems the 1 who has this policy in place is NOT looking to avoid having sheltered employees but rather to limit his employees to those with the same political views he holds.

So just who is the snowflake?

I slipped through the cracks too.

I suspect the snowflake thing has nothing to do with autism and everything to do with the new culture wars, which are no longer about religious issues.

Unfortunately many still do fall through the cracks as some parents don't want to admit their children are not perfect. This sets a child up for a lot of turmoil, struggle and stress. Perhaps worse.

My youngest had speech delay and just two years ago a good and dedicated teacher saw his skill with math and wondered why he fell behind in reading. She asked us if we would like him tested for dyslexia. Sure enough he's dyslexic. Now he gets help works his strategies and doing much better.

Teachers and schools where I am in Texas are also getting much better dealing with students who are ADD and ADHD. The solution used to be to medicate. That still happens of course but teachers know how to apply strategies not requiring medication.

A lot has to do working the strategies at home which is reinforcement.

I have enough friends, too many - I have to cull out these people who use the term "snowflake" to refer to other human beings. Irony is that most of these people who like to use that term are ultra-conservative and are the biggest scammers and cheats I've ever seen. Like one guy who just posted an article about "snowflakes" from Breitbart on Facebook today - as he is whining about "snowflakes" he is sitting home since January after having elective surgery and leveraging his union rules and rep to call in sick every day - since January! He is better now but milking it, going out drinking in the daytime, etc. And this is the kind of guy who calls other people "snowflakes"!!! The very union he's using to protect himself from getting fired he always mocks them and calls them "commies", yet he takes full advantage of every benefit and break they give him! I'm slowly letting those people go out of my circle of friends, they are just what I said earlier - lazy bums, idiots, morons, etc. Maybe worst of all they are hypocrites.

Good to hear. What I have to live with on a daily basis and get called a snowflake for it I do not wish to have on anyone else. I have to agree with ArmenianJohn, I find that those who use the word 'snowflake' typically want to feel superior. It's human nature to want to feel superior and this is a new way of doing so. One reason why I'm not too fond of American conservatives is that while they claim creationism, they actually practice evolution. I can find no love of Jesus in their hearts, just the holier-than-thou attitude for being True Americans (TM)

My sister has Asperger's & juvenile diabetes has had people call her a snowflake, too. People would complain that she had special privileges at school & dismiss her conditions. Parents would complain more about it as much as kids.

Yeah, my dad was a military man who was terrified of any kind of mental illness label. The whole self-reliant culture can actually be self-defeating.
