Good morning from Australia!

Look what God put in the clouds this morning:

EAST:

"And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth." Genesis 9:11-17

Statement of my position to the Atheist, Agnostic, Gnostic, Theist:

Ok, I'm a faithful Believer in the Bible being the true revelation of God by His work, by His Word Jesus Christ.

So I = Faith Position = God did this.

Agnostic Position = God may or may not do it.

Atheist = Null position = No God, No doing this.

Athiest------------------------Agnostic------------------------Theist

This is a science subforum of a Christian forum correct?

So, my position is that the method of science cannot prove God because God Himself is hidden but His work is visible (Faith is the requirement for His creation).

When you question my claims, I repeatedly state that to the atheist there are gaps in his position, namely "Origins" and that theories are in error and could be instead "xyz" based on "God did it".

I cut accepted theory down by Faith in the bible and its creation account (testimony) of the revelation of God's creation, to His creation, by Himself.

Then proceed to explain how I believe the position of Atheism is wrong to state the following in philosophy:

Nothing begot Something.
Non-Life begot Life.

I believe that the flat earth theory IF proven will rock the foundations of science.

Gnosis the lie:

God Made This

I invite all positions, the Atheist, Agnostic, Gnostic, Theist to debate.

-_- rainbows are just caused by light refracting through water droplets. I can make one with a sprinkler. To say that there weren't rainbows prior to Noah's flood is like saying that there wasn't any color before the flood.

Right! Without refraction the human eye would have been next to useless

Do you know what a rainbow "Glory" is? it is a full circle rainbow that can be seen under special conditions from a high altitude like a mountain or an aircraft. The rainbow and associated optical phenomena, like sun dogs and pillars of light are very well understood scientifically and have no cosmological implications whatsoever.

To say there were always rainbows is like saying you don't believe the bible is correct.

Imagine that, an Atheist that doesn't think the Bible is true. :)

I'm a Christian and I believe the story to be symbolic in nature. In the light of scientific discoveries over the last 500 years it no longer makes sense in a literal understanding. That doesn't mean the story is not true, it just means that it is not factual. Think "parable".

Oh you don't have to be an atheist. To know what rainbows are, you just need to have had an elementary education.

It's generally pretty to easy to see what is and what isn't symbolic. Some think the flood that brought on the rainbow was symbolic, even with all the details and time but into getting the point across.

And the science you mention would have a real problem with the way Christ healed the sick, walked on water/calmed the storm. The powers of God are constantly defying science, as we know it anyway.

Oh you don't have to be an atheist. To know what rainbows are, you just need to have had an elementary education.

And an elementary knowledge of the Bible, I mean if you believe that kind of thing, makes it clear God/Christ had some pretty extraordinary powers over nature, so to think the rainbow didn't happen until he made it happen, doesn't seem far fetched at all t me.

-_- the properties of light itself would have to be drastically different in order for there not to be rainbows. Different in ways that would mess up how life and energy functions and make life impossible. If it is refraction behaving differently, then a colorless world would be a possibility, but clearly, color is mentioned as existing in the bible prior to the flood. In any case, rainbow in the bible is just a mistranslation of the word "bow", which is to say, the deity was disarming itself.

You could try to say that a rainbow in the sky had never happened before, because the flood was the first time it rained, but rainbows can actually form without rain, even in the sky.

I believe rainbows were created by God, as was everything else, as a consequence of the laws of physics (which we are still discovering). I don't believe that the Bible's explanation is true - more a story written by those 'touched' God and looking for an explanation.

Actually, there's a scientific basis for it....

In an unrelated research in paleontology, some scientists have found evidence that at some point in Earth history, many millions of years ago (time of the dinosaurs and some time after the K-T event) that it never rained on Earth.

They estimated an atmospheric pressure of around 300x than what we have at present!! 3x higher than even Venus! :o It was such atmospheric conditions which enable gigantism in many creatures including insects, dinosaurs, and early mammals.

The extremely dense atmosphere and warmer climate of that time actually discouraged any weather activity including rain. The climate is calm all throughout, not even a wind just like in the surface of Venus. Clouds probably didn't exist unless maybe at very high altitudes invisible from the ground. The plants probably subsisted on early morning mist/moisture.

If such very thick atmospheric conditions continued until "recent" times (just thousands of years ago), it might account for gigantism in humans during ancient times and the extremely long lives of humans (the very thick atmosphere would absorb all radiation coming from space).

This scientific theory agrees with the accounts of Noah, especially the end of the age of giants after the flood (although a few giants remains), The extremely long lives of humans before the flood and shortening after.

If that is true then something must have sucked away most of our atmosphere and caused a global flood, perhaps, close encounter with another planet which took away most of our atmosphere, cause tidal effects of biblical proportions cause massive flooding.

Three times the atmospheres of Venus would be 270 present-day atmospheres. Since today we have a sea-level atmospheric pressure of 14.696 psi that would be 1,322.55 pounds per square inch pressure. One Venus atmosphere which is equivalent to 90 Earth atmospheres of pressure is equivalent to being 3000 feet underwater. That is far more than enough to kill us.

I think you need to re read what you wrote here.

Oxygen levels have been greater but 3x Venus' air pressure.

Nearly everything would be dead.

And on the other hand, if we really were to assume that "humans" (in any recognizable form) could exist under such conditions, any event that brought down atmosperic pressure by a factor of 300 would be more enough to kill us as well.

Exoplanet simulations show that planets with higher atmospheric pressure have better habitable range and only gets better as the pressure increase.

How Exoplanet Atmosphere Density Can Change Odds of Alien Life

In short, they produce a more habitable environment for creatures that evolved in it.

It would not be unexpected that God originally created the Earth in such conditions and us originally adapted to it. It may have taken many years for the Earth's atmosphere to gradually thin -- plenty of time for creatures to adapt to the conditions.

The results agree with the accounts in the Bible like the presence of giants and the lack of rainbow (rain). It would be impossible for evaporation to occur which causes clouds which causes rain if the atmospheric pressure is very high.

The great thing of having 300x higher pressure, if you fall off a cliff, you will not die! You will fall slowly to the ground :) It would also take much less energy to fly!

Rainbows are a phenomeon of physics, a consequence of Gods creation.

The flood story is a creation of the Hebrew priest in Babylon, they found it impossible to trace their blood lines all the way back to Adam. So, they decided to fill the gap by drowning the whole world in it's wickedness by exploiting a well known, localized flood legend. The books were a comprehensive tradition used for spiritual instruction. Upon the return to Jerusalem, later generations of priest converted the exaggerated teaching stories into "The Word of God".
