I read somewhere there were 177ish sins discussed in the bible. Is it farfetched to assume there is a demon or a legion of demons for every sin trying to get people to commit them? It also seems our minds are able to connect with the spiritual world and hence why we sometimes get thoughts that are against what the bible says we are to think about. What do you guys think?

There's nothing either in the Bible or in recent history as far as I know of that's anything like that. So no.

I think the same demon is generally capable of tempting a person to think even opposite thoughts, however it seems effective against the person.

But as noted above, we are capable of tempting ourselves as well ...

I think demons and their great under-lord, Satan, are generalists more than specialists. I can't argue for that, just my impression.

I am not certain about the exact number of sins enumerated in the Bible, but I'm sure they all revolve around, "I wanna ___ and I don't care who says what!"

I am not at all convinced that there are demons at all.

I don't want to derail the thread from the main topic but you don't think there is a spiritual world? Or you believe there are angels just not demons? very controversial statement either way.

Demons r very real, bible plainly states that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but principalities rulers of darkness. I do believe their is an unclean demonic spirit for every type of sin. An unclean spirit cannot have rest without inhabiting a human, thus they use them and their body to fulfill their evil desires, which in turn drives us into sin and ultimately hell in the end. Demon of lust (which rules many other kinds of demons under his rule etc.). I believe their is rank in satans kingdom and some r stronger than the others and rule over them as well. I have heard and seen testimony of being delivered from such as homosexuality etc. For bible plainly states not to lay with a man as you lay with a woman. For that is against the law of God, which is evil. Bitterness, envy, strife, confusion.....whatever it is , is what u call it and it has a name. Not sure about the number as u required, but satan and demons are just as real as our LORD JESUS CHRIST. Demons r very strategic at all times, they know a persons weakness and they got for the attack in that area. I do believe they have territory, for when the demons was cast out of the man they had no problem leaving him.....but they acquired of JESUS to send them into the swine, they needed possession, but def wanted to stay in their territory, bc that area was their specialty, and they didnt wanna leave the comfort of that area. So dont know if i answered ur question.......or maybe this is just a comment, but anyhow............GOD BLESS

Some demons are named in the bible eg legion, dumb and deaf spirit, spirit of infirmity, etc.

There does seem to be rank and hierarchy of demons under satans dominion..fear or terror is one of them.

I don't know about a gay demon but I wouldn't be surprised, it would come under lust.

From what I know..these unclean spirits wreck havoc in peoples lives.

There are 'strong men' that try to invade peoples bodies that aren't saved and sealed with the holy spirit.

The main ones are - spirit of Jezebel, anti-christ, death and hell.

Most enter because we sin, that opens the doorway. Since Jesus is the door, he can open and shut the doorways, expel them and keep them out.

And why should you? It's hard enough just trying to be like Christ. And by hard, I mean impossible. What a task!

It is so hard that the most Christlike person I have ever met is a Hindu.

It doesn't matter. Keep your thoughts fixed on Jesus and the truth through Scripture. The weapon you have to fight all the dark forces with is Jesus himself. You don't need to know what the nature is of any evil. You can overcome everything by just knowing and obeying Jesus and the Truth, because he will deal with all that stuff for you. Jesus is a living person who wants to help you. Persist in asking him for what you need. Seek the help of mature Christians at your church if you're having difficulty or suffering.

I think demons are allegorical or figures of speech. An epileptic was described as being possessed by a demon. One feverish and shaking from a bout of malaria may have been described as ill by one person or possessed by a demon by another. Disorder, lewdness, murder, lawlessness and chaos were described as works of darkness and attributed to Satan. While goodness, lawfulness, knowledge, healing, charity and productivity were attributed to light and God. I think God created angels, but cannot in my wildest dreams attribute demons to God's creation. These bad things are the result of error, malice, greed and ignorance.

I don't think there are Demons---evil, spiritual, beings that produce sins--just fallen, spiritual beings who want their own way.

Demon is the translation of the Greek diamon. In Greek philosophy and thus popular thought--daimon was used for a variety of motivating forces including Love. Diamons were typically positive in nature--Socrates describes his moral conscience in terms of his daimon--although some were playful. This seems most like our use of the word spirit--"in a spirit of kindness" or "mean spirited". When we say this we don't mean that people are under the influence of inferior god-like entities. In general I don't think the NT writers meant this either.

There are a couple instances that seem to suggest otherwise, Legion speaking to Jesus e.g. and vice versa.

However, I do think this instance can seen in non-supernatural terms as well. Multiple-personality disorder or dissociative personality disorder is well-described. Many with this may have one personality that wishes to be free of the others (but they all occupy the same brain)--another personality may be violent or combative. I take great comfort knowing that Jesus can speak to even this disease and "the many/legion" will cease, and wellness will return.

What about angels. In both Hebrew and Greek, the word we translate as angel, means messenger. As in euangelion, the Greek word that gives us evangelist--a messenger of the 'good news'. Does this mean that all of the angels in the Bible are just people--I don't think so, but it does make me wonder what people see when the message comes directly (and truly) from God. I also know that Jesus has both a physical and a spiritual presence. The Bible speaks of creatures with many head and wings that surround the throne and those who seem as men but are clearly from God. Whether these are our feeble attempts to describe encounters with God or physical reality, I don't know.

I do believe there is a gay demon I have conquered it and it was not easy. There is also a nicotine demon too which I am trying to conquer. Demons exist when we fall from grace, and they live in us. It is not easy to rid yourself of them but God knows they do live in each of us. That is what I believe.

I don't know how many angels there are but I do know that one-third of them were thrown out of heaven along with their master satan.

This happened because satan wanted to be the top dog and replace God himself. I don't think that for one moment satan stopped wanting to be top dog once he was thrown out so I can only assume that he is still pursuing that agenda.

That means he is not sitting around the campfire toasting marshmallows. He has an army of slaves that he is mustering at every available opportunity to destroy the work of God.

He cannot get at God because Jesus defeated him at Calvary but he can get at his creation...you and me.

The scriptures does not say that we have been set free from sin. It says we have been set free from the power of sin, the author of which is satan as in "sin shall no longer have dominion over you."

Whether it does or not depends on how much you resist satan and all his demons. We are all tempted to sin, but we don't have to. That comes from satan so yes there is a demon or demons in the realm of homosexuality or fornication or murder or stealing or........

There has to be because sin has no power over us unless we succumb to it and the only ones that would want us to succumb are demons.

Because we are all created in God's image it is natural/supernatural for us to want to be like him. That is what sanctification is all about. Being changed daily into his likeness. Along the way, satan and his minions are doing their darndest to queer God's pitch.

He goes about as an angel of light so we have to constantly watch and pray because he could be in the pulpit.

Where in Scripture does it state that demons specialize by sin?
"Where does it state (say) in scripture..." must be one of the most misused questions in Christendom.

If one care to do an assessment of life, there are thousands of things not stated in scripture but it doesn't alter the fact that they are or are not OK.

For example, where does it say you can have a new car and I can only have a used one?

Where does it say that one has to don a dress to be a minister?

Where does it say that one can watch television the night of the meeting?

Where does it say that a person cannot preach unless he is ordained?

I could go on and give hundreds of examples but at the end of the day, God has given us his Spirit to discern and discernment is one of the nine gifts so if it is not in scripture, The Spirit of God can help me discern the validity of anything.

That is if you believe that the Spirit of God leads you. If you don't you are in dead trouble.
