Ordinarily would work and use the money earned from income to pay for things, but what happens when there's no work coming in, or there's not enough in the budget do you fundraise, or just make do, or ask God to provide?

Is it christian to fundraise and ask people to donate. Just wondering. Is it like begging in a way?

I don't particularly like being asked for money esp by charities that send regular letters and appeals all the time. Not cos I'm tight but because I don't really have the money to spare. Is there a way to do it thats not intrusive or guilt inducing.

Another thing is, found out the church I attended sold fireworks, well allowed people to sell fireworks in their carpark in exchange for some profit. Is this a christian thing to do, (fireworks for Guy Fawkes day) what about carboot sales? I mean is everything to buy and sell or trade ok? If the money goes toward a good cause?

I mean it's not firearms, but fireworks are dangerous all the same. You can't sell them to anyone under 14.

I think fundraising is a good idea. You're selling a product, and that's basically a job, but the money goes to the cause, not you. I think when it comes to begging people should do that as a last resort, and they have nearly nothing, and can't find a job at all, and aren't able to work, like they're blind or maimed or something.

I knew one guy who begged for money on the internet, I ended up giving him hundreds of dollars, and this was when I was about 18 and I had my first job. Unfortunately I saw the guy on YT, and it seemed that he was well off, and he had a bunch of cool stuff. I didn't expect him to return the money, but I think before anyone starts doing reviews on cool products, one should at least try to settle accounts, even if the money was given... but I'm just saying that because I'm pretty sure he was a con-man.

So for that reason, fundraising is good. A person gives money, and they get a product, instead of regret.

There's nothing wrong in asking for help when there be a legitimate need...Sadly I do see that many need to quit trying to "shame" people for asking for help or support.

I do believe...we, the church need to be careful about how it raises money and be prayerful about how the money is used/spent.

What things are suitable to sell to raise funds that people would buy and where would you find these products or would you make them yourself.

I cant think of anything...am terrible at making cakes and biscuits, plus you need to buy the ingredients to make them as well.

Knitting...what would people buy?
Plants? Often just give them away plus cant keep them for long.

Car wash? Need smewhere to do it.

Other services need time and effort. With a product people can just buy it if they got the money I suppose.

Its no good asking poor people for money..you need to sell your product to the rich people who have extra ...?

For example I see sallies asking for donations of christmas gifts. Then they complained that there werent enough. (In my area) Well hello, many people cannot afford to give their own children and families let alone others. Its not that ppl are not generous...but they needed to ask the richer suburbs people that had plenty.

Why did you give money to some random guy off the internet?? What was he using the money for? Did he email you or something.

Personally, I would talk to my pastor. He or she might be able to work something out with jobs or people who are happy to give a hand. My friend really struggled with income, so she was able to find resources to help her get a more steady job, was able to rent a room from a local church member, and in turn helped them out in other ways. Now she is back on her feet, and needs less help. Our church members all donate to this fund to help our church members confidentially. Some donate money, some, time...whatever you can do at that particular time of your life.

the pastor(s) in the church don't seem to be any help or really care.

They would just tell you on your own anyway. I remember one time there was a paying job available in the church and someone from outside the church got it. It wasn't really a difficult job to do either.

That's too bad. It's an important mission to take care of our fellow parishioners.

Have you checked out temp agencies?

money is to pay airtime expenses for an outreach. I've had donations thats fine, but am thinking of fundraising if not able to find a steady job.

Ah ok. I'm throwing out some ideas that have helped me and some friends in the past :)

Another great site for funding a mission is GoFundMe. I haven't had the best of luck with other fundraisers, but you could always go with the sandwich / sub fundraiser. One organization I work with got a fair amount of money through that, but it took lots of time to be successful.

Also, if you are crafty, Etsy may be a good option as well.

He said he was basically homeless, and had a wife and a baby. I'm sure he has a kid, and a wife, but part of me thinks he was really just too lazy to find a job, and work, or he was just lying about really needing money. I heard from others that he just wasn't looking hard enough for work. We are both in California, and he claimed to be a brother in Christ, and it seems that he's no longer faithful though, so that's disheartening. I was pretty dumb back then, and I've come to realize that sometimes people lie for money, and they lie big. I don't regret giving money as a principle, but I do regret not knowing exactly what was going on.

Also learned if we wanted to do anything for one church, like even donate our time and things, it had to go through the pastor, and they didn't even want it. If we asked for something they would spend the church budget on things that weren't necessary. So those pastors have a reputation for being stingy but extravagant when it comes to themselves.

eg..I donated a new garden bench which was actually meant for everyone to sit on in the church yard. But one pastor got mad and wanted to get rid of it. the other took it home. I ended up writing to the other one saying he was welcome to decide what to do with it, keep it for himself or have it at church. He took it for himself.

in the church yard there's nothing to sit on...there is a bench but its broken and busted. I think they were afraid someone would steal it. But really...if it was in the church yard and not just outside..why would anyone steal it. I was planning on putting a plaque on it.

homeless ppl don't really need money they actually need a home. however much money you give it won't be enough.

well, I wouldn't try to judge and say he's not looking hard enough. It is tough out there job hunting.
If you gave him something well God sees it and will pay you back.

Its better to pray and do things to help than give money...most of the time. If you do give money you kind of have to trust that it will be spent on what its meant to be spent on. If you gave food or clothes it would be better.

The person then doesn't have to go shopping. OR you go shopping with that person. It's easy to just give money, harder to give time.

My dad told me to call them back daily, and I called them a few times a week. If you keep calling them, there's more of a chance they'll remember you.
Well..my line of work isn't really like that. But...I guess could contact the last place I worked for again to give me another job...I worked one day, got paid, and then never heard from them again. They were shortstaffed that day.

the steady job I left, I wouldn't go back to again. and the one before that..so much red tape and BS since it amalgamated that I really don't want to go back! For that one, even after working several years you couldn't change hours or location or anything. If you signed under one condition and then the management changed, you were left up the creek. The union fought a lot for workers rights but its a never ending battle.

anyway, have job interview today, so will see. The thing is with institutions is if signing a contract, have to be careful you not locked into something that's difficult to get out of. And if pay and things aren't negotiated up front and you not aware of it, then you lose.
