are they christian? Or a christian organisation?

Never was one so am not sure.

Had someone (christian lady) say to me Im not earning any brownie points for being good but then I never was in brownies in the first place so not sure what she was meaning.

All i know about the girl guides is they sell biscuits.
And there was a scouts group meeting at a hall in the local park but never actually knew anyone who was in it.

"Brownie points" is (or became) an American-English idiom. The way she used it just means that "you weren't doing good." (You can also "win" or "score" brownie points, which mean what you did was approved of.) There are better descriptions if you search the Internet for "brownie points."

If that's her reaction to you doing something good, then it reveals she has a selfish or negative worldview. It this context it has nothing to do with Brownie Scouts (or Girl Scouts, etc.).

Yeah, Brownie points has nothing to do with the girls organization.

FWIW, Girl Scouts and Brownies are totally secular organizations. Some churches do sponsor troops, so leaders may have influence that way, but the organization is secular.

Brownie points may come from the method of encouraging desired behaviour in the girls by awarding points for good behaviour. The Brownies would be divided into subgroups and over a period of time (e.g. a month) the group with the most points has a reward.
This is what I did in the Cub Scout pack I led.

Hmm just looking at wiki for girl guides sounds good on the surface but then whats with the secret handshakes and promises or oaths. ?!

It does sound kinda like a kiddie salvation army movement. They have uniforms too.

There are a number of possible origins for the term. Yes, the Brownies are one possible origin.

I can't speak for the Girl Scouts, but the Boy Scouts are not a Christian organization. At one time they did require a religious belief but I don't know if that is the case anymore.

The following might answer your question regarding the Boy Scouts requiring a belief in God: http://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2014/10/03/belief-in-god-scouting/

oh ok just wondering.

It doesn't matter just curious. last week my friends church hosted a lot of boy scouts. They were all wearing a uniform of the same shirt.

To me it sounds a bit like a youth army like the red guards or the hitler youth depending on what country its in. Allegiance to King (or glorious leader) and country and all that.

It is anything but an army and has no comparison to the Hitler Youth.

They are all "scouts," which is a loose reference to the people that were native to America and lived off the land. It's more like a club for kids who like the outdoors, which also teaches them morals. Boys used to learn how to tie knots, go camping, etc. The older boys do wood construction projects for charities, like making park benches or gazebos. Girls learn some cooking, and how to craft things.

Boy Scouts have an "oath" they take to help them remember what's important: "On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight."

The Boy Scout "Law": "A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent."

What gave you the idea it is like brainwashing kids so they can be immoral more comfortably?

The Boy Scouts actually were organized as a paramilitary organization during the Boer War in South Africa. IIRC the British were besieged in Ladysmith and the British commander General Lord Baden-Powell was very short of manpower. He organized young men that were not yet of military age as runners to carry messages between units. The movement grew out of those beginnings.

Just in some aspects because they make pledges to a leader..and they are young children believing they are doing good which is what hitler youth actually believed they were doing, too bad their leader was a bit insane.

I did hear of occasions where the scouts got involved with dark side and rumours of paedophilia, but the girl guides and brownies didnt seem to have the same taint.

When you think of it you entrusting your children to be taught stuff and go away you kind have to be careful and vet these organisations out before they stay overnight at these camp things or whatever.
