Lashing out at press coverage, Trump calls BuzzFeed 'pathetic pile of garbage,' CNN 'fake news'
Yahoo News‎ - 2 hours ago

President-elect Donald Trump used his first press conference since July to rebuke specific news outlets for publishing reports on Tuesday regarding his campaign’s supposed dealings with Russia.

In a comment about BuzzFeed, which chose to publish the full unverified dossier of allegations, Trump called the media site “a failing pile of garbage.” Shortly afterward, CNN reporter Jim Acosta attempted to ask a question. Trump declined, calling the news network “fake news.”

“I felt it was only fair if our news organization was going to be attacked, we get to ask a follow-up question,” Acosta said after the press conference.

Acosta said that incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer told him if he ever “acted like that” again, he would be thrown out.

The president-elect’s reaction to these latest media reports follows Spicer’s rebuke to open the press conference.

“It’s frankly outrageous and highly responsible for a left-wing blog that was openly hostile to the president-elect’s campaign for publishing salacious and flat-out false information on the Internet just days before he takes the oath of office,” said Spicer from the lobby of Trump Tower. “According to BuzzFeed’s own editor, there are some serious reasons to doubt the allegations in the report. The executive editor of the New York Times also dismissed the report by saying it was ‘totally unsubstantiated,’ echoing the concerns that many other reporters expressed on the Internet. The fact that BuzzFeed and CNN made the decision to run with this unsubstantiated claim is a sad and pathetic attempt to get clicks. The report is not an intelligence report, plain and simple.”

The Republican National Committee communications director pointed specifically to the line in the report that Trump attorney Michael Cohen had met Kremlin officials in Prague in August. Spicer said Cohen’s passport shows he did not leave or enter the United States in the months of August and September, confirming a report from CNN Wednesday morning that said a government source had confirmed it was a different Michael Cohen who had visited Prague.

Asked to respond, BuzzFeed’s communications team told Yahoo News, “We stand by our decision to publish the dossier, and would point you to [editor-in-chief Ben Smith’s] email to BuzzFeed News staff about why we decided to publish.”

But...what if his blasting of their fake news was ITSELF fake news, planted by fake news organizations to make it look like there's a threat to their fake news?

It seems that they never stop.
Trump won -- deal with it.
Whether on our side or not.

there was nothing fake about it. though buzzfeed went too far, some can argue, by posting the memo, CNN reported it fairly. by calling it fake news, you're suggesting that our intelligence services haven't received this report, that mccain didn't give the report to the fbi (who already had it), that neither obama and trump had been briefed on it.

all of the above DID happen and was fairly reported by CNN.

fake news is NOT news you don't like or don't want to hear.

CNN's reporting on it followed journalistic standards...even fox news defended CNNs coverage...

“President-elect Trump today told CNN’s Jim Acosta that his organization amounts to fake news. CNN’s exclusive reporting on the Russian matter was separate and distinctly different from the document dump executed by an online news property,”

“Though we at Fox News cannot confirm CNN’s report, it is our observation that its correspondents followed journalistic standards,”

Buzzfeed exposed CNN for what it really is.
As long as the fetid ball of stench was left at the level of innuendo, then people could not be in a position to question what was true and what was not.
But by reporting on what lay behind the innuendo, the jig for CNN was up.
The one thing very different about Trump than had been the case with GWB, or McCain or Romney, is that Trump is more than willing to engage with these slimy purveyors of slime on their own level. Former GOp leaders felt it was beneath their dignity to respond in kind.
Trump on the other hand makes no pretense at dignity. He calls out the lyin' media and responds in kind to their slime with mud balls of his own at every opportunity.
If CNN reporters want to be treated as people with integrity, then it is high time that they start acting like journalists with integrity.
The past eight years have already exposed them all as partisan hacks for the Democratic party, who are very selective on whose feet they are willing to hold to the fire.
And now the jig is up.

As with all bullies such as Trump, as soon as you show strength, they cower in fear.

Looks like Trump, ever the bully during the campaign, is living up to this, and demonstrating he is going to be the cowardly POTUS.

I am also curious how his supporters are taking it now that Trump is making it clear he thinks his supporters are a bunch of ignorant chumps. For instance, after telling his followers that the VA was the most corrupt organization in the government, he chose the new head from the existing staff. This proves he knew he was lying to his base, but believed they were gullible enough to believe whatever he told them.

...and fox news, too, you suppose?

You tell me. I am not the expert on Fox news.

Enough to know that anything that has been said about Fox News applies to CNN.
The jig is up.

Media bias made Rush Limbaugh’s career, giving him more than enough material for three hours a day. Media bias made Fox News, which finds itself in the odd position of being the most popular cable news network while programming a great deal of material about the defects of the media. Because most of the local newspapers that we grew up reading in the pre-Internet era did not have Washington bureaus or foreign correspondents, even those of us who grew up in very conservative areas were treated to a great deal of increasingly obvious and contemptible bias thanks to the Associated Press and other news services. We learned not to trust them, and, as technology began providing us with a rich menu of alternatives, our distrust grew into something like contempt. But here is the thing: Rush Limbaugh and Fox News did not convince Americans to distrust the New York Times and Dan Rather. The Times and Rather saw to that themselves — talk radio, Fox News, and right-wing Web journals are the result of that alienation, not the cause of it.

Just because Mc Cain saw this phony report makes no difference.
Fake news called out once again.
The left has operated like this for so very long that
it seems they are addicted to their blindness.
He comes to seek and destroy.
Wake up and smell the coffee.

well, anyone can see where they supported CNN's reporting. you only need know how to read.

again, you seem to think that any news you don't agree with/don't want to hear/don't want to believe is fake news.

tell me, and be specific...how was what CNN reported considered fake? what do you define as fake? fake news is untrue news. everything CNN reported was true, hence not fake.

I for one will be glad to see the last of Fox and Brietbart --- rumors, half-truths and lies.
That is the state of journalism in America today.
Don't fool yourself into thinking that fake news has not gone completely mainstream.

Leftists journalists thought they were very clever coming up wit the fake news meme to discredit those on the other side. This Buzzfeed and CNN fiasco are just the latest examples of how this meme has blownup in the face of the left, who have been all about fake news for as long as anyone can remember.

except that even fox news supported CNNs journalistic integrity in their reporting of it...you keep "forgetting" that.

Fake news = reporting things that didn't happen.

The existence of the memo, the fact that it was circling in the government isn't fake. It's not fake news to report on that.

How is this difficult for people to comprehend? The allegations may very well be false, entirely and completely false, but that there are allegations isn't fake news.

I can only make one of two conclusions:

1) Deliberately being obtuse
2) Being legitimately ignorant.

Which reveals to me that this isn't about caring about journalistic integrity, this is about wanting to play a game of "Neener neener neener".

What Buzzfeed did was wrong, of course it was, it demonstrated a massive journalistic failure on their part; but I also don't know anyone who seriously thinks Buzzfeed is a journalistic source at all. Buzzfeed is a clickbait website, anyone using them as a legitimate news source is failing hard and deserve criticism for not going to reliable, credible news sources. CNN, on the other hand, merely mentioned what was, in fact, the current news on the subject--not fake news, but actual news involving a memo circulating among certain politicians and members of the intelligence community. Reporting on what was happening isn't fake news.

But I suppose I'm wasting my time actually trying to use reason here.
