Quickly now, lets all jump to conclusions like our biased agenda driven society has taught us to.
The conclusion should be, if you decide to pose next to a dead body like some kind of trophy, then you probably don't very highly regard human lives.

So we must wait for them and see.

The lawyer letter was a threat to the news station. They were more concerned about the photo leaking (what they call "stolen property/evidence," than the actual circumstances.

Why is this not bad enough? Weren't US soldiers criticized for posing with dead bodies of TERRORISTS not too long ago?

And, here is an American cop posing with a dead American body... and that alone isn't bad enough?

On media bias: in haven't seen much reporting of either "side" on this event.

Yes they were,we send men to die "defending" us which is in its self a fraud then sit home and criticize them because its not as nice and neat as we sitting safely at home would like it to be

"Judge not" flies right out the window when emotions and agendas are at stake....don't they
then you probably don't very highly regard human lives.
Since the guy overdosed on drugs I don't guess he regarded human life very highly

Drug abuse and overdose is tragic. What's the police officer's excuse for being a lowlife?

I don't know, whats your excuse for passing judgement on a picture who's origin and circumstance you know nothing about because it fits your narrative.
I'm not sure if you think this photo is faked or something but it's pretty clear to me when I see someone posing with a lifeless body, giving a big grin and thumbs up to the camera, that person doesn't have much concern for another person's life. I'm not even sure what narrative you're talking about since the death, in this case, doesn't seem to be related to bad policing.

What I'm suggesting is that people wait and see what the facts are,a highly unpopular suggestion in a day when for most people all accusations against those they don't like are true and correct and all accusations against their own are false and made up.

Reminds me of a retired teacher friend of mine who used to tell me about dealing with parents who's kids were always innocent complaining about other people's kids who were always guilty.

I don't want to jump to conclusions but look at the way the dead guy is laying there. It's kind of a suggestive posture that begs for someone to kneel down for a thumbs up souvenir picture. Obviously I am not biased, if only everyone else here were being as reasonable as I then we would just wait and see how this ultimately plays out against the dead guy that had it coming.

From a personal perspective, I would find the officer's conduct objectionable. However, I understand the human emotion element at play here and the concept of being happy about someone else's death could be something we'd all be guilty of given the right circumstances.

For example, there were people celebrating the death of Bin Laden when that happened (obviously I'm not comparing drug OD to one of the largest terrorist attack of all time, but just as an example), do all of those people who cheered the death of Bin Laden have an evil lack of regard for human life? Are they all bad people for essentially celebrating the death of another human being?

I think there's a sliding scale here and we'd all have a specific set of circumstances (or threshold) that would cause us to maybe have an unethical moment of jubilation at the demise of another human being.

Pablo Escobar being another good example. The man was a vile wannabe-tyrant, and was so powerful that for a time it was unclear was he ever going to get defeated or not.

If some cops took pics of themselves with his body in that context, it's just fine. It can even be seen as a demonstration of victory of justice.

This sounds nothing more than relative privation more than anything. Smiling next to a dead body is wrong, but people might do the same with Bin Laden! First of all, there is no evidence anything like that occurred with Bin Laden, nor are the images circulating around that eventually make it to the press. Saying these things could occur, you might as well posit that there are a herd of unicorns running around Area 51.

This is not people cheering after hearing specific news, these are professionals on the scene breaking from their professionalism and doing something unconscionable. Yes, people are not 100% professional, but there are times where that is expected and should never be broken. When you break that professionalism, you need to be out of a job. I think the willingness to accept this is yet another reason why our police officers run amok.

It's not okay, even if the person is a criminal or tyrant. You should not be posing and smiling in photos, regardless of their alleged crimes.

I disagree. I admit that in overwhelmingly most cases, like, almost 100% of the times, you are right though.

I'm talking about cases that have some symbolical value for the society, and in those cases it's at the very minimum, understandable, if someone does that. In case of Pablo Escobar, I feel like picking on that after those guys did put their lives, and their families lives (P.E. made a habit of murdering families of cops) on the line in a war that killed hundreds if not thousands of people, is just petty moralism.
