I don't believe it's a sin. I think it can be a tool to avoid some real sins though.

what a person believes has nothing to do with what Gods word states .
many chose to believe that there is no god ... dosnt make the right .

self indulgence for self pleasure with no value of love nor benefit to any other ,making it all about self .. is not godly desire.
but the evil desire of the flesh .
if we walk in the spirit we will not fulfill the evil desire of the flesh .

some would say but but what about eating ,that's a desire and i would say yes .. much like an airline tells you to put on your own oxygen mask before you try to help some one else so you don't pass-out and become useless to them . so we eat and are made strong to "help others" ,ie -there is benefit to others by fulfilling the desire to eat

but i have not known any "one else being helped" by some one masturbating to vile thoughts or inappropriate content in secret .

I have been watching and reading them for ten years, I never heard of people meeting any gods in NDEs, only Jesus, or ancestors... of course some meet gods of the underworld but we don't consider them gods among Christians. Where is a norse god NDE?

Just to throw a spanner in, what if what your conscience is telling you is preventing you from doing something you that really SHOULD be doing? The enemy has more than one way to skin a cat - after all, he's been appearing as an angel of light since Adam in the garden.

In an interesting twist, what you describe is an example of the enemy exploiting a feature of the New Covenant - what ever not done from faith is a sin. Rom 14.23

So in the case of certain things commanded or allowed in scripture but not allowed by conscience, you sin if you do and you sin if you don't.

way to dive in and redirect the topic onto ambiguous matters . we are not talking of actions not spoken of in Scripture ,we are speaking of sexual immorality which we know is wrong both in scripture and in conscience .

If one is emotionally and willfully involved with a picture or fantasy, the person may not be happy to be thought of this way. One either looks at a respectable person with contempt or at a person of no regard, neither is acceptable. With regards to romance we need love someone, I suppose the least problematic option comes if you think of your spouse.

One has to choose who to show contempt for or disrespect.

And there are fantasist types who become convinced the other person is really as in their dreams and that they really know them.

If one emotionally agrees with inappropriate content, then there is a collision of direction in life and one veers of course or turns around and need pray.

It can be said that if one agrees with inappropriate content one is in the end in agreement with a demon.

yup and its is actually back to my first point -people ask this question not because they don't know but because when they've begun doing it they feel guilty and they seek to alleviate that guilt .. well the first time you steal you will feel guilty too ..its God telling you via your conscience that its sinful..
and he came to save you from it so there is no need to despair . Jesus can make you overcome this as easy as any other thing .he makes us MORE the conquerors ..trust him and love him more then anything else ..and you will see

he loves you and has done everything required to set you free ,, ask his forgiveness and YOU HAVE IT ,,then go forward and learn how to renew your mind and be the over comer he has already made you in him.

The Bible only has commandments regarding sex, and that always involves another person. Someone will quote the OT command involving spilled seed, but that may or may not be applicable,a s the passage does not have a context with it, although the unclean to evening part suggests it is not sex between a married couple, which usually happens at night..

There are two kinds with he same name. For recreation, it is a sin, as it leads to fantasies of the opposite sex that life cannot maintain and will interfere with marriage sex later.

To eliminate sexual tension, it is not a sin. It is in fact, practice for marriage.

It is the attitude and what you think about it that governs it. If you are imagining a movie actress, then you are in danger. If you are thanking God for the great gift that he will one day use to bring new saints to the earth, and the joys you will one day share with your future spouse, then that is good.

Figuring out what you are thinking can be a bit tricky, as autogenetic thoughts happen when you do it, and you can't tell what are your thoughts, and what are coming from the chemical exchanges.
