The original post has two parts.

The first part (what grieves the Holy Spirit) is simple and complex: anything that alienates us (further) from God, grieves the Holy Spirit - not to mention the Father and the Son.

The second part of your post has, itself, two parts.

What do I do when *I* grieve the Holy Spirit? I apologize.

When "those around me" do? I mostly keep my big mouth shut, unless it is someone for whom I have some responsibility (of whom, since my children are grown, there are none). Sometimes I complain if they have hurt me or someone else, but their sins are their business, as mine are my own business. We, as Christians, should worry more about our own sins, and less about those of other people. As Paul says, "Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling" - your own, not everyone else's.

What grieves the holy spirit?

Disobedience and murder. Eve disobeyed a clear directive by the Creator. Cain murdered his brother.

We in the U.S.have murdered almost sixty million innocent unborn children. It's time to repent of this great sin against heaven and seek forgiveness!

Not believing in him, not believing his words, or not treating other people with love.

A lack of love towards the unborn is one of the greatest of our sins. Jesus told us that we have to love our neighbor and even our enemies.

The unborn is the closest neighbor for a pregnant woman. It is closest to her heart--only a few inches from her heart.

How can she allow the abortionist to destroy what God is creating close to her heart? How can society tolerate this horrible genocide?

Jesus stated that out eternal destiny will hinge on the manner we treat the "least of these." Can we think of a group of human beings more deserving the label "the least of these"?

I dont know about the hospital. They kill a lot of people there with drugs.

Yes, and by dismemberment or poison. I am thinking about the genocide of the unborn--thousands of them on a daily basis. And Hillary is determined to allow the killing of the unborn up until minutes before birth.

I remember a video I watched sometime ago. A girl with a missing arm. Someone asked her what happened to her arm. "I survived an unfinished abortion" she responded. The physician had torn her arm but could not finish the killing, and she was born with a missing arm.

How can a civilized society tolerate this kind of treatment of a large segment of human beings?

I know if i grieve the holy spirit i repent and he comes back and i feel his presence. Grieving the holy spirit is something you dont want to do because without the holy spirit you a dead person. You will just go back to being unsaved and thats perilous.

But i know when others around me grieve the holy spirit I end up crying. It hurts. jesus wept when nobody believed him.

What actions grieve the holy spirit? What do you do when this happens? Esp if its other people around you.

ANY thing we do, say or think, that is sinful in Jesus' eyes, grieves him.

Since we ALL sin ALL the time, more or less, we are grieving him ALL the time. Those who believe they do not sin, are liars according to scripture-1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.. So what is the secret to sinning "less"; so that Jesus' punishments for our sins "7 fold"; will be less and we will be blessed more? Leviticus 26:28 Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise (punish) you seven times for your sins.

INCREASE your faith IN Him! Be beholden to HIM only! Turn to Him for EVERY need. Go to Him for truth. Do NOT go to ANY printed word for truth; because satan will ALWAYS poison our minds if we go it alone. Rather: GO to Him and let Him lead us to the truth wherever it might be. Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD (Jesus) with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. And THE most important thing is to ADMIT sincerely that we are NOT capable of "turning from our sins"; regardless of who thinks they can on our own; and that He alone is capable of removing the temptation to sin.

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

For IF He does not lead us away from temptation, we WILL give in to satan's "tempting" us; and we WILL sin every time, NO matter our "resolve" or "will power". IE: NO mortal stands a chance against the power of satan. ONLY Jesus can shield us from his (satan's) evil and luring temptations.

IN a word: it is NOT us, it IS Him (Jesus). Failure to understand that is the reason that so many have such pain and suffering in a myriad of ways. He said "I am the way"! He never said we are the way, or any thing else was the way! But sadly, misguided preachers and teachers have admonished us for 2,000 yrs, to "TURN from your sins and repent", while satan laughs us all the way to scorn, knowing that we have NO power over his tempting.

If you doubt that look around; AFTER you look into a mirror. And if you have eyes to "see", you will see just how wretched we ALL are.

May Jesus richly bless you and yours always.

Since we ALL sin ALL the time, more or less, we are grieving him ALL the time.
We are all tainted by sin, but God has forgiven us of that. Forgiving in heaven and earth means the wrong needn't ever be brought up again. He was grieved he had to sacrifice his Son to grant us that, but now he is no longer grieved by it. Jesus has been raised in glory and is raised to the highest place (and us also, in Christ). God was grieved he had sacrifice his Son, but it is over and completed. God doesn't ever have a you-owe-me attitude, and he doesn't dwell on the past as long as what was done has been resolved.

When we know something is wrong and choose to do it anyway, that grieves God. Be sure to seek his forgiveness for that. When we do something wrong but don't know it is wrong, the act doesn't grieve God, although the consequences might. Sin brings death which impacts us and everyone else touched by it/us.

Any sowing to the works of the flesh will grieve the Holy Spirit, but in these latter days, as many are falling away from the faith in giving heed to seducing spirits in thinking they are the Holy Spirit, I am sure that is grieving the Holy Spirit as well.

The Holy Spirit can be grieved by thinking that you can receive Him again after a sign of tongues which never comes with interpretation when scripture warns against thinking like that; 2 Corinthians 11:1-4

We were warned by the apostle John to test the spirits and thus if anyone testify to the Holy Spirit being felt in the worship place; falling on saved believers again and some others, again after a sign of tongues and other sensational signs in the flesh, that is not the Holy Spirit ( 1 John 4:1-6 ) when the test of our faith dictates that He is in us ( 2 Corinthians 13:5 ) as promised for all those that come to Jesus by faith.

The promise of the eternal indwelling Holy Spirit that comes with our salvation is given in John 14th chapter and cannot be received again les the event makes the Father look evil as if He did not give us the Holy Spirit the first time as promised for knocking at the door of Jesus.

Luke 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

The opposers will claim that His disciples had received the Holy Spirit numerous times, but John 14th chapter has Jesus explaining when and how believers will be saved and how they will receive that promise of the Holy Spirit FROM the Father and that was when HE, Jesus, was NO LONGER present with them.

John 14:25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. 29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.

So that means the two times He had given the Holy Spirit; in Matthew 10th chapter & in John 20th chapter, that was not the promise of the Holy Spirit that comes with our salvation; those were temporary infillings.

That also means the disciples were officially saved at Pentecost; and not before.

This is so that every one in heaven will have the same testimony; that they had received the promise of the Spirit by faith in Jesus Christ; not by sight when they were saved.

Galatians 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.....26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 11:1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.....6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

There can be no separation of believers by claiming they can receive the Holy Spirit again after a sign of tongues or any other signs so that scripture maintains its truth and line of discernment of what is not of God.

1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

So there is only one drink of the One Spirit that all believers have been filled by which is by faith in Jesus Christ; then it is not after a sight of a sign of receiving tongues which never comes with interpretation for tongues serves as a sign to unbelievers; not for believers or even sinners to seek as a sign that they have received the Holy Spirit.

Preach Jesus Christ & Him crucified so that those that hear, may believe and be saved by faith in Jesus Christ.

Do not preach to believers that have the Holy Spirit in them that they need to seek to receive "another baptism with the Holy Ghost with evidence of tongues" because scripture reproves it as not of Him at all.

There is only one gospel by Whom we had received the promise of the Holy Ghost. There is no other gospel.

God's real gift of tongues is of other men's lips to speak unto the people. 1 Corinthians 14:20-22

So do not overlook the opposers that claim otherwise by defending tongues that never comes with interpretation when they are defending this other calling in how to receive that tongue; by seeking to receive what they believe is the Holy Spirit " again". That is also a sure way to grieve the Holy Spirit in you when one departs from faith to give heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils as prophesied that it will occur. 1 Timothy 4:1-2

Those that have gone astray and yet hear Him, can still repent by shunning vain & profane babblings and pray normally with His help for it is God's will for us to pray and for us to actually give Him thanks for answered prayers that WE KNOW we had prayed for. 2 Timothy 2:16,24-26

1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 19 Quench not the Spirit. 20 Despise not prophesyings. 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. 25 Brethren, pray for us.
