is WWJD (what would Jesus do) a good thing?....can it be poor guidance in today's society?

Jesus would obey Mosaic law and teach others to do the same both by word and by example, which would be an perfect guide for any society.

It's a slogan to print on t-shirts and make money. I just don't see it any other way.

actually i need to share how i used it on the treadmill the other day...i was due for a visitor in 20 mins so as i walked -a-frenzie on the mill, this visitor needed a few firm words. then as i was winding myself up God reminded me WWJD...i finally surrendered for His way. the visitor duly arrived and i carried out my decision...grace and understanding oozed thru me and we worked thru the issues perfectly!

WWJD is a valid guide, I think. Look at what Jesus said, "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." (Matt. 7:12), and "And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise." (Luke 6:31). This is better known as the "Golden Rule" which people, prior to WWJD, have used as the guide to fulfilling the "Law of Christ/Greatest Commandment" for many years. The "Law of Christ" which is to "Love your neighbor as you would love yourself" is fulfilled by the "Golden Rule." You love your neighbor as you would love yourself, by doing unto your neighbor as you would have done unto yourself (presumably if we were in their shoes).

So, What would Jesus do? He would follow the Greatest Commandment by which all of the law and prophets are fulfilled, and He would have us do the same.

It's no use saying that none of us keep this law perfectly. We break it every day (in our hearts, if in no other way). Nor is it of any use to say that many who have the bumper stickers, bracelets, t-shirts, etc, don't live up to it, or that it is merely a slogan. So what? Many people have Bibles that never read them, or apply the things in them, or go to church and do the same. That is not the point of it. The point of it is to remind us of the standard that we are to strive for and to rely on the Holy Spirit and His guiding us through the Word to increase in our love for God and man as we go.

Sometimes Jesus would do one of His "sovereign over all creation" things, like suddenly becoming invisible to attackers or healing the sick or calming a storm, raising the dead. So "what would Jesus do" isn't necessarily as helpful as, "What would Jesus have me do?"

Jesus is Lord. You are not Lord. You cannot and should not do everything Jesus does.

Nevertheless, He is our model.

A better question: "What would Jesus have me do in this situation?"

I agree. I would think that it would take an overly literal interpretation of WWJD to think that we were to emulate Christ in every particular.

If I had to choose an answer, I would say "it's good." However, this assumes that the person making the judgments actually knows what "Jesus would do." Most of the time, that's not the case.

True. Bad preaching and Biblical illiteracy have done much damage to the body of Christ.

Good and bad seems to be very subjective, but what Jesus did was that he loved. I think it is great thing and without that love everything is really empty. When people love like Jesus, they do all good things to others and don’t do evil things. So in my opinion “what Jesus would do” is good guidance always, if person understands to love like Jesus. :)

You are quite right Danbha, thats exactly why we see very little of it in the church today because Pastors are afraid to preach it and people dont study for themselves but for those who seek, do find, when they knock on the door, it is opened. I have seen healings that would make you do what I did and that was stand frozen in time because I couldnt wrap my mind around what I had seen. I watched a tornado explode into pieces when I spoke against it. It is easier for believers to make excuses why God didnt heal or this was something only Jesus could of done, I have heard so many excuses its sad. The thing is God will no accept excuses when we someday stand before Him. We are filled with the same Holy Spirit Jesus was, who IS the power of God. This is the same Holy Spirit who hovered over the earth waiting upon the Word to be spoken so He could do the work of creating the world, as the Father wished. Peace !

Joh 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Joh 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son

Jesus fulfilled the law in the same sense that Romans 15:18-19 says that Paul fulfilled the gospel, namely that he taught full obedience to it, not that he did away with it. Jesus said that all of the Law and the Prophets hang on the two greatest commands, or in other words, that all of the other commands are examples of what it looks like to correctly obey the two greatest commands, and that through obeying the other commands we are obeying the two greatest commands. We should not say we that we just need obey God's command to love while ignoring God's commands for how He wants us to love.

What Jesus did was amazing and what he would do in any given situation is for us to learn from.

WWJD definitely is a slogan or acronym thats caught on that speaks to the heart of what being a christian is...for us to walk the walk and not just talk the talk.

I personally think it is a bit flippant and a kind of marketing slogan that appears to cover all situations but doesn't.

I found a wallet at work one day with a lot of money inside. You don't need a "WWJD?" slogan to know what Jesus would actually do.

If Jesus was living in America today, what would he do come election day in November? No one can say with certainty.

I think it's a clever catch phrase that has no real substance.
