  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The "un-derailable" thread!

So...crazy crazy day. Yesterday, I was crossing the road along a crosswalk and a small suv (my friend, actually) turned in and her drivers side mirror hit into my bad shoulder. This was on work property so now there is a boatload of paperwork, meeting with our base police officers, doctor's visits, etc etc. I didn't want to have all this happen, but it did.
Ouch, and yuck. :( I'm sorry this happened to you. :(

Did you know that in PA, a pedestrian must go through their personal automobile insurance company for medical bills when another vehicle hits them???

I did not know that explicitly, but the last time I was involved in the auto insurance field (long time ago), yes, any personal injury (in this state - FL) was handled through one's own insurance company, but only up to policy limits, which are typically very low. Any amount over that is referred to the other driver's Bodily Injury Liability (which hopefully they carry!). I'm not sure how that will correspond with PA, but it can very possibly be the same.

Again - I am sorry this happened. I would think since it happened on the grounds at work, the Workman's Comp would be paying for all of this?

And if you don't own a car?

If you don't own a car, if you are in a household where someone owns a car, it goes through them, or if you don't have that, it will go through your medical insurance - and if you don't have that - it goes under the uninsured part of the automobile driver's insurance (to the best of my understanding). Apparently there are 12 states like this.

Ugh. So i went to a family graduation party with tons of people I haven't seen for a long time plus lots of family. I tried to position myself in a safe position but so many people hugged me on my bad shoulder. Now my shoulder has been hurting extra all night and I'm having a hard time sleeping. Plus I have fellowship hour cooking tomorrow and my husband is out of town due to work this weekend, and won't be available to help with fellowship hour. Hopefully I can get some sleep soon!!

:(

I would have asked, isn't there some way they can rearrange the schedule for cooking, since you had an accident, to give you some rest for your injury? But I'm guessing it might be too late to bring that up? If you have to prepare food the night before?

Hopefully there won't be a "next time". But I do hope you feel better soon. You have my prayers!!!

Probably would have been a good idea to put your arm in a sling that day. At least then people would have known you had an injury and been more gentle with the bear hugs. Too late now though.
(Or was it in a sling and they hugged you anyway?)

No I didn't have it in a sling, though that would have been a great idea! I had a loose sweater on over it too, so I doubt anyone realized.

My shoulder still hurts, but the doctor said there are no broken bones, so that's good. Now I just need to get range of motion back!

I've heard a few embarrassing ring tones from parishioners ... but that one is right up there, LOL. Maybe I should be glad my phone is too old to have actual songs for ringtones, LOL.

Not "Highway to Hell"?
I'm disappointed ;) (or do you switch to that when you go to the Quakers meetings :p)

Well Zaido can add Stairway to Heaven to those other two ringtones and put the Icon of the Ladder of Divine Ascent as a wallpaper. Fits all three ringtones.

Now I do wish I had a phone that would do that. Ladder of Divine Ascent icon for an image and "Stairway to Heaven" ... could make that my SF's image and ringtone. That would be funny. ;)

I wonder if he would think so, or if I'd be in trouble, lol. He has a sense of humor though ...

The fact that this thread has lain fallow for a whole month is unconscionable! ^_^^_^^_^

In very important gurney news, I bought the bluray of Batman vs. Superman, the extended edition with director's cut and IT WAS AWESOME!!!

I can't for the life of me figure out what people didn't like about this movie? It was a blast! I bought it with the expectation that it would stink, that it'd bore me probably to the point I might have to turn it off, that I probably wasted my money.

Nope!

It was outstanding!!!!

With a recommendation from Gurney, I'll make sure to take some time to watch it ;-) I wasn't sure if it would be worth the watch, though I've been tempted.

Yes, I'm trying to develop a list of stuff to watch (hoping it won't take up as much of my life as I've been warned it might over the next couple of months) ... But I'm very glad for the reminder of that one. I intended to add it to one list or another, and forgot about it.

Our libraries are not bad for the area we are in. I LOVED San Bernadino county library system and it was one of the things I regretted about moving from California. But since I'm set up as a teacher in two counties, I have library privileges in both of them. Altogether I can get 9 DVDs at a time, and so far I've found one that I tried to get on Netflix and they didn't have it. Mostly Netflix has more. But they've apparently shifted the shipping protocol, so our 1-disc at a time subscription is getting down to only 4-5 a month, even if I ship back the next day every time. And that's going up again, I think, anyway it's over $10 a month. The library on the other hand will deliver them to a local branch (some have drive-through windows) and will let me have 9 at a time - 38 a month if I checked out the limit and got new ones once a week - all for free. Netflix is losing points with us.
