• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I guess true steppers wouldn't quote lines, but I'm not really sober anyway.

Now about sex. Many of us needed an overhauling there. But above all, we tried to be sensible on this question. It’s so easy to get way off the track. Here we find human opinions running to extremes--absurd extremes, perhaps. One set of voices cry that sex is a lust of our lower nature, a base necessity of procreation.

Then we have the voices who cry for sex and more sex; who bewail the institution of marriage; who think that most of the troubles of the race are traceable to sex causes. They think we do not have enough of it, or that it isn’t the right kind. They see its significance everywhere.

One school would allow man no flavor for his fare and the other would have us all on a straight pepper diet. We want to stay out of this controversy. We do not want to be the arbiter of anyone’s sex conduct. We all have sex problems. We’d hardly be human if we didn’t. What can we do about them?

We reviewed our own conduct over the years past. Where had we been selfish, dishonest, or inconsiderate? Whom had we hurt? Did we unjustifiably arouse jealousy, suspicion or bitterness? Where were we at fault, what should we have done instead? We got this all down on paper and looked at it.

In this way we tried to shape a sane and sound ideal for our future sex life. We subjected each relation to this test--was it selfish or not? We asked God to mold our ideals and help us to live up to them. We remembered always that our sex powers were God-given and therefore good, neither to be used lightly or selfishly nor to be despised and loathed.

Whatever our ideal turns out to be, we must be willing to grow toward it. We must be willing to make amends where we have done harm, provided that we do not bring about still more harm in so doing. In other words, we treat sex as we would any other problem. in meditation, we ask God what we should do about each specific matter. The right answer will come, if we want it.

God alone can judge our sex situation. Counsel with persons is often desirable, but we let God be the final judge. We realize that some people are as fanatical about sex as others are loose. We avoid hysterical thinking or advice.

Suppose we fall short of the chosen ideal and stumble? Does this mean we are going to get drunk. Some people tell us so. But this is only a half-truth. It depends on us and on our motives. If we are sorry for what we have done, and have the honest desire to let God take us to better things, we believe we will be forgiven and will have learned our lesson. If we are not sorry, and our conduct continues to harm others, we are quite sure to drink. We are not theorizing. These are facts out of our experience.

To sum up about sex: We earnestly pray for the right ideal, for guidance in each questionable situation, for sanity, and for the strength to do the right thing. (AA Chapter 5, "How it works")
That was actually very well said. There are number of "gray areas" with sexual behavior and people tend to invent rules for them. But it's ultimately just a matter of individual choice, conscience and commitment.

Passing by with hugs for you all that need one.
To those who feel unworthy. Prayers.

I've been up since 3am. Got up with an unusual feeling of anxiety. Not sure why or what is causing it at the moment.
Major random thoughts are racing through my head right now.

I feel like requesting for prayers to help me help others. I feel fearful that my own messy life and feelings gets in the way of helping out. It feels like I'm being completely greedy and way too needy.
Is that weird feeling in my tummy. Just like that feeling we get before surgery or a major job Interview. Makes me pace back and forth hoping it stops. I hate taking any type of meds, so I'm just relying on prayer right now.

Ugh.

Praying for you. I hope you are doing better today. ((hug))

Ugh.

I hope you allow yourself to rest every now and then. I'm sure you're familiar with the serenity prayer. It's a great one, so much wisdom in one small prayer. I often need to be reminded of it. We can't do everything, even if we can do plenty. Sometimes we just don't know which is which, and sometimes we need to allow God to be God, and ourselves just people with limited capabilities. It certainly seems like plenty of people have been having anxiety lately, some would even call them spiritual attacks and extreme confusion.

Said a prayer for you. You'll get guidance and comfort in time.

Thanks a lot sister. I said a prayer for you too, I know life is not easy on you either. I got almost 4 hours last night but do feel much better than yesterday mood wise.

I hope you have some contact with good life today, depression can certainly be the pits.

I'm feeling empty now. Sometimes I feel like life is totally meaningless because all it really is fundamentally, is an endless cycle of eating, sleeping, breathing, and going to the bathroom day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year from the time we are born until the day we die. :(

I'll be honest here: I'm beyond stressed because of bad financial decisions (which are my fault). I don't know what else to do besides doing online surveys (while I'm thankful for them, I'd rather have a part time job or if God wills it, a full time job). I've tried in the past, but because of so many rejections from potential employers, I have given up on finding one, as well as having developed learned helplessness. And the worst part? No one wants to help me. They'd rather give annoying platitudes or sit on their butts than to FREAKING HELP ME.

And as usual, no one cares about me on here...

new york sounds like a very expensive place to live. I hate job interviews so much which is one reason I keep the job I now have. so maybe when you do find a job you won't have to worry about going through all of that again. I have noticed more woman are coming to work in my workplace (a ups hub). some places seem to always be hiring because so many people quit. i'm sure plenty of people care about you on here, it has only been a few hours.
