• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

My fire alarm keeps going off. I'm not even cooking anything.

The battery might be getting low. Try changing the battery.. I think they do that to warn you that the batteries need changed, but I'm not sure.

Yes, the battery is getting low so needs to be changed.

I am feeling better today. I have been reading the Bible and listening to music. Today, I went out and ate at a restaurant and had a brownie sundae. Yummy!!!

I probably will gain weight too.

I am feeling ok now since I realized that holing myself in my apartment is not healthy.

God is good!

Tomorrow, I go to Bible study again and on Sunday there is a BBQ.

Yes, I'm happy now!

I'm glad you are feeling a little better. I had a good day as well though I have been going down hill the last hour or so for some reason.

Be blessed and stay close to His love then satan can't get hold of us.

I was told that the batteries were fresh when we moved in.

Glad you're doing better!

She is perfect. This photo just made me smile. Thank you.

Said a prayer for all of you. You are loved. Hang on in there, you will overcome. Our struggles can be hard for us, but they're nothing for the Lord. In time we will see it.

And yes Jeshu, that's an adorable little dog.

She's gorgeous. Give her a pat on the head for me please.

Shadow is a perfect puppy so far. Confident and robust but also easily taught.
She is laying behind me sleeping on her dog mattress, completely at ease with everyone and doesn't protest when we take her outside with Roxy again. The only problem is weeing and pooping all over the place even though we try everything to catch her doing it and take her very regularly to her pooping spot. So far she hasn't got it yet.

She is every bodies darling at the moment, apart of Roxy who has to spend most of her time with her. She is getting a lot better before but things can still get a little too much for this old lady.

i'm unable to sleep, even with the ambien and i'm too ashamed to call my doctor about it.

I have had trouble sleeping for years and nothing much worked. Recently someone suggested that I suffered from adrenaline fatigue as part of my P.T.S.D condition - a condition which we might well share seeing the circumstances we both been through - she suggested 5HTP

http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-794-5-htp.aspx?activeingredientid=794

The stuff has knocked me off my feet sleeping from barely 2.5 hours a day to 7 hours a day using it just three times. I should only use it 3 or 4 times a week but that is going to be tempting at times I'm sure. Lets hope it keeps working. You might want to try it out. Though it has some risk as well when taken too much it sure has helped me sleep. I'm allowed one tablet a 4 times a week. I'm very pleased with the results though it makes me feel a little the same as when I take strong psych meds for about 12 to 15 hours after taking it, hence the sleep I reckon.

Eph2:14-15[WEB]For he is our peace, who made both one, and broke down the middle wall of partition, having abolished in his flesh the hostility,
So greeting "Peace to you" is very instructive, that means accept or welcome someone to the kingdom of Peace. The wall should be used for defending the kingdom, but not separate the citizens of the kingdom. The Lord’s death meant the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. So we can link with God and each other. How wonderful and powerful is Jesus Christ’s Holy Death!

Wish you all a blessed day after day.

I've had a lot of time to myself lately. Haven't had much to do this summer, so I've been lost in thought. A lot of thoughts around my faith, my writing and my masculinity. I'm not questioning anything--I'm still a man even if I don't look very "manly", my writing is decent and I'm still a Christian. But it's like I'm getting this sense that few people see things the same way.

I should have known that before--but now it's sort of hitting me like a ton of bricks. People think differently than me. At first it seriously bothered me, psychologically. I used to hate other people disagreeing with me. I still dislike it, but now there are feelings of inadequacy--like other people are confident in what they believe, and I'm not. Whether it's atheism, or what counts as "good writing", or postmodern thought, or what being a man truly means, if anything...it's like other people know and I don't.

I guess I'd like a "mission statement" of sorts. Something that defines me, an identity to grasp. But I don't think I like my choices.

Jeshu, I read somewhere (can't remember but I've seen it multiple times) that our pets are gifts from God. Little blessings He sends our way. Pets can give us comfort and help us grow. I know with all my heart that the Lord presented me with my little furry friend. Their love for us and their company are blessings. May your pets be a blessing to you too. :)

And as always, my prayers are with you.

Yes there is clear evidence that depressed people with pets, (or supportive loved ones,) are less likely to commit suicide than those without pets. To love brings all kind of benefit - freely - into our psyche.

God is love, when we love then we are very much in His image, and literally drink good life in from Him, (this is why the bible talks about the river of life streaming from Zion into the dead sea making it all alive.)

When we love animals, they love us and loose their natural fear of us and become our friend for life. Especially dogs are very good at doing that.

When we love people this process, though not guaranteed to work as with pets, for not all people love us back, we still gain good life and get rid of bad life - truthfully loving is the secret to being close to God - for that is where the holiest of holy is located within our inner being - and God and Jesus have their dwelling in Spirit within us.

So yes you are very right sister pets are good for us - loving living beings is good for us - no matter who it is. The problem starts when we love objects and things more than living beings, or exclusively ourselves more than others, then sin and its misery begin to creep in instead of good things.

be blessed.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Friends rejoice with me I have slept on average 7 hours a night for four nights now and have to lay off the new remedy for it has a very tempting side to it.

I'm using 5HTP to achieve all that. I take only 100 mg, with a little B6 at the time and feel a little downish and tired from it for about 2/3th of the day. Very much as if I take strong mood stabilizers or other psych medications. 5HTP has proven to work for depression - very much like an anti-depressant but with less side effects unless too much is taken of the good stuff, clearly it can treat insomnia as well, and a host of nervous system disorders.

Amazing how much better I feel already. Good sleep certainly restores me - 7 hours a day over only 2 times sleeping is a very good result for me and the first sleep is now 4 or more hours instead of 1 to 2 hours, and I'm much quicker back in bed in between sleeps.

All in all I'm very pleased.

I have no idea what I'm feeling. A mix of things, I think. I'm inspired but I can't write.

Write down little thoughts that contain the essence of whatever snippets of inspiration you have. Don't even pretend to write them into a narrative. Do that later, or use them for something else.

I'm trying but I keep getting stuck because I have too many ideas and none at all. I'm trying to figure out ways to describe everything because I'm one of those people and keep thinking it's not good enough. This story has to be perfect. I need it to be morally gray with no really good characters and no really bad characters. They need to feel flawed and human.

Every now and then, I see threads in the Recovery section where members get so down on themselves simply for having a sex drive, and it makes me sad that they're so hard on themselves for something that is just part of how human beings are wired. :(

Well for me, my sexuality has been such a curse that I wish I was asexual.

I can understand frustration with it for sure, and you're not the only one who'd rather be asexual sometimes. But there's a difference between that and acting like you're an evil sinner who's bound for hell simply for having such drives and a physical need for sex at a time when you're not married. I see the latter way too much. :(
