The Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit Explained.

Many new believers, myself included when I first got right with God, kind of stumbled over the references Jesus makes about blasphemy of the Holy Spirit because it's the "unforgivable sin." Here is a quick and simple teaching from the scriptures to put new believers at ease. This is not something New Covenant believers can do. You share this video with whomever you like:

One might note 1 Tim. 1:19-20 and see all ref. to blasphemy in the NT. It speaks of attributing the Word of God and the workings of the Holy Spirit as lies and/or of Satan. We need to value the immutable Word of God as His directions and counsel for mankind, and not attribute it to carnal men, as some professing Christians dare to do.

The ESV does use the word "blaspheme" in that passage, but I'm not sure it's referencing "blasphemy of the Holy Spirit." It looks like Paul is saying their blasphemy was to not "hold faith and a good conscience." Perhaps they were legalists who were continually fretting about whether or not they were in right standing without doing a bunch of legalistic works?

1 Tim. 1:18-20
18 This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may wage the good warfare,
19 holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith,
20 among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.

Here is how you Blaspheme the HS.
Become an envious religious Jew who lived in Jesus's day.
Watch Him do miracles, and then say that He does this by the power of the Devil.

An interesting thing I noticed about how Moses being sent to deliver the Israelites being a foreshadow of Christ as deliverer for the Jews in the 1st Century: One of the signs Moses was given was that he would put his hand in his cloak, pull it out and it would be leprous, then put it back in his cloak and upon removing it it would be clean again (emphasis mine):

Exodus 4:1-8
1 Then Moses answered, "But behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, 'The LORD did not appear to you.'"
2 The LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?" He said, "A staff."
3 And he said, "Throw it on the ground." So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent, and Moses ran from it.
4 But the LORD said to Moses, "Put out your hand and catch it by the tail"---so he put out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand---
5 "that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you."
6 Again, the LORD said to him, "Put your hand inside your cloak." And he put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous like snow.
7 Then God said, "Put your hand back inside your cloak." So he put his hand back inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, it was restored like the rest of his flesh.
8 "If they will not believe you," God said, "or listen to the first sign, they may believe the latter sign.

That just happened to be the sign that Jesus made sure He sent to the Pharisees to prove that He was indeed walking in that supernatural, miracle-working mandate established in the Old Testament:

Matthew 8:1-4
1 When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him.
2 And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, if you will, you can make me clean."
3 And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, "I will; be clean." And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 And Jesus said to him, "See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to them."

Here is how you Blaspheme the HS.
Become an envious religious Jew who lived in Jesus's day.

It looks to be that way. However, it may be possible that the Mosaic expectation for miracles still stands for Jews today. I cannot say for sure. For gentiles, and Messianic Jews who believe, it is impossible to blaspheme the Holy Spirit.
