I guess my point is, how many people who identify themselves as (Christian ?) actually are Christians ?!...

I think this is a great point. In my opinion there's no way that 70% of America is "Christian"; we're talking about nominal Christians. How many people actually take the Bible seriously? How many people study it like it's the word of the Creator of the entire universe? How many await the return of Christ and are preparing themselves for the return of Christ?

I guess I'll kind of build on my post above. We've been seeing the disappearance of theology in our society now for awhile. People in Western society and, quite frankly, the world, no longer take the Bible seriously. It's now considered basically a myth and a fairy tale.

I think we can couple this quite well with Christ's statements in the Olivet Discourse, Paul's statements in 2 Tim. 3, and the book of Revelation. We were warned that God would let the rebellion against him go quite far and he has.

BOWIE, Md. (WJZ) — Authorities suspect a meteorite strike may have sparked a massive brush fire that scorched the woods behind a Prince George’s County condo community Sunday evening.

The woods behind Scarlett Oak Terrace, located just off Maryland Route 450, went up in flames after 5 p.m. It took firefighters with the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department several hours to bring the flames under control.

Later, firefighters discovered a hunk of what appears to be meteorite lying at the bottom of a cratered patch of earth, surrounded by the splintered and charred remains of tree limbs.

LOL! That is funny considering your question in your OP.

According to Christ there are terrors and great signs from heaven that are to precede the end. Have some of these terrors/signs already happened, or are they yet future (e.g., the sun/moon/stars being struck in Revelation)? There can be no question that the "terrors" (Gk. phobetron) that Christ refers to must be something very visible. So, what are they?

Unless you don't consider meteorites hitting the Earth and setting fires to be a sign from heaven then you could answer "nothing". But you would have to change your question in your OP.

I reckon that when the ice caps have melted causing sea levels to rise to a predicted 20 or so feet then that weight distribution will cause the earth to reel to and fro , and if one happens to be looking up at the heavens at that time then the sun moon and stars are going to look pretty weird to the observer. Add to this all the satellites and space junk that are now orbiting the earth , they will more than likely fall from their orbits and appear as falling stars or meteors to the observer.
That's my theory anyway...

Well it's really a pretty straightforward. In OT symbolism, eagles are not only regarded as predators, but are also referred to as "carrion" eaters. If you see vultures (or eagles) circling over a particular spot, you can pretty much rest assured when you get there, you're going to find something dead, or dying on the ground beneath them, (a carcass of some kind, an animal, some fish, or maybe a human body).

In other words, this passage is saying, these signs or terrors are "pointing" to events which foreshadow the fulfillment of End Time prophecy and herald what is about to come to past. It merely restates the message frequently repeated in the Gospel, that these events will take place right before our very eyes (Matthew 24:27), and yet many will simply fail to perceive what should be perfectly obvious... so that the Second Advent of Christ will come as a complete surprise, like a "Thief in the Night" (Revelation 16:15).

There is also another (related) way to interpret Matthew 24:28. Carrion eaters, (buzzards, vultures, crows and eagles) also consume, or sweep away the remains of the dying, or dead, in order to promote a healthier "sustainable" habitat. If no carrion birds quickly cleaned up a carcass... flies, rodents and other creatures that spread disease would be attracted to the carcass and multiply. It could be argued, the "eagles" referred to in Matthew 24:28 are the very forces God will use to "purify and cleanse" the Earth. Indeed, the Scripture says, the Earth is one of the things God has reserved for fire, and the judgment of unrighteous men, (2 Peter 3:7).

We often forget in our own hubris how powerful the forces of nature and the universe are. In the blink of an eye, an asteroid impact, super earthquake eruption, coronal mass ejection from the sun (super solar flare) could ravage our modern civilization and knock us back to the 17th century virtually overnight. The North Pole melting and sea levels rising 20 feet ? That is where our populations and trade are concentrated, along coastlines in major cities. The inundation of our coastal cities would be a catastrophic and apocalyptic event.

So the foreshadowing of terrors we are now glimpsing, may well be a final warning from God. He is saying, "I have the power to purify and cleanse the Earth". The "Earth and all the creations therein" are MINE. The Bible says, "the FEAR of God is the beginning of Knowledge and Wisdom" (Proverbs 1:7, 9:10).
