I would expect that anyone disagreeing with the position of our Pope or Bishops in such a thread would share whatever special knowledge of the issue they possess that makes them wiser then our Holy men, sent through Christ's Church to guide us on moral issues.

They're just opinions and not infallible ones.

They are not infallible, but neither are they "just opinions". These are the opinions of people specifically selected and sent through Christ's Church to teach us on these moral issues. We can ignore them but we must be ready to explain, to eachother and to God at our judgement, why we rejected their teaching.
