Until these trials began, the Khmer Rouge were heroes to the Sanders left. They fiercely defended the Khmer Rouge no matter what the reports of their atrocities, because of their commitment to “social justice.” The ends justified the means. When folk singer and anti-war protestor Joan Baez began to question the crimes, she was blasted by the left.

The difference between the Khmer Rouge and guys like Sanders is what they have the political leverage to inflict.

Sanders wants to do crimes against humanity to further his goals for the sake of social justice? Pull the other one. That guy doesn't have the brass if you look at his lackluster career as a senator.

"Funny. We hear that from Bernie Sanders, too."

Asinine, tone deaf slander by an anonymous author. Any idiot can find common words between dictators and your average politician. It's an association fallacy. Khieu Samphan and Bernie Sanders are both bald. That doesn't mean all bald politicians secretly want to commit genocide.

This is a tall claim! Do you have any evidence that Bernie Sanders supports genocide?

A few socialists have been bad, though it's been demonstrated time and time again that wasn't the case for every socialist, but if a few of any group are bad, Republicans don't seem to have a problem banning them all...

"We're helping to increase opportunity by relieving debt and opening up trade, encouraging reform, and delivering aid that empowers the poor and the marginalized. And the record of this administration in promoting social justice is a strong record and an important record." — George W. Bush, March 5, 2007

Looks like George W. Bush is a genocidal communist too! Who would've thought?

Watch some of the people who voted for him start talking about how he wasn't far enough right now.

"I have assured the President [of Guatemala] that the United States is committed to support his efforts to restore democracy and to address the root causes of this violent insurgency. I know he wants to improve the quality of life for all Guatemalans and to promote social justice. My administration will do all it can to support his progressive efforts." — Ronald Reagan, December 2, 1982

Reagan too??? Nehw sije!

By the way, the man Reagan was praising at the time, Efrain Rios Montt, was a dictator who systematically tortured and murdered leftist dissidents and committed genocide against ethnic Mayans.

That was a pretty bad time for Guatemala.

"We have to search for equality of opportunities and rights, to fight for social benefits, a dignified retirement, holidays, rest, freedom for trade unions. All of these issues create social justice. There should be no have-nots, and I want to emphasize that the worst wretchedness is not to be able to earn your bread, not to have the dignity of work." — Evil communist Pope Francis

"We stand for a living wage. The monetary equivalent of a living wage varies according to local conditions, but must include enough to secure the elements of a normal standard of living—a standard high enough to make morality possible, to provide for education and recreation, to care for immature members of the family, to maintain the family during periods of sickness, and to permit a reasonable savings for old age. Hours are excessive if they fail to afford the worker sufficient time to recuperate and return to his work thoroughly refreshed." — Theodore Roosevelt, "Social and Industrial Justice" speech, August 1912

"The Republican Party is now facing a great crisis. It is to decide whether it will be, as in the days of Lincoln, the party of the plain people, the party of progress, the party of social justice; or whether it will be the party of privilege and of special interests, the heir to those who were Lincoln's most bitter opponents, the party that represents the great interests within and without Wall Street which desire through their control over the servants of the public to be kept immune from punishment when they do wrong and to be given privileges to which they are not entitled." – Theodore Roosevelt, "Who is a Progressive?" speech, April 3, 1912

"Social justice and progress are the absolute guarantors of riot prevention. There is no other answer. Constructive social change will bring certain tranquility; evasions will merely encourage turmoil. Negroes hold only one key to the double lock of peaceful change: the other is in the hands of the white community." — Martin Luther King, Where Do We Go From Here?, 1967

Clearly though, the Khmer Rouge and Bernie Sanders are the only people to use the phrase.
