How is Easter on 3/27/16 before Passover 4/22/16???

So, if Easter, in late March (3/27/16), really was the day of Christ Jesus’ resurrection 2,000-years-ago, how could He come out of the grave 25 days before His crucifixion, death and burial on The Passover in late April (4/22/16)?

If Easter really was the authentic Christian celebration of the resurrection of Christ Jesus, Easter would ALWAYS occur on the correct Sunday - the first Sunday following The Passover.

So how is it calculated this year and what exactly are we celebrating???

Bible experts think the Crucifixion and the Passover that Christ celebrated occurred in April, but as the day moves with the calendar, year by year, that governs the day on which we celebrate. There have been persistent suggestions for changing the process, but it's been with us since ancient times. This year Easter is celebrated on March 27.

To correct to align to Ex. 12:2 wherein first month is also after spring equinox.

Spring Equinox is 3/20. First new moon thereafter is about 4/7. First full moon is 4/22. First Sunday after first full moon is 4/24.

Easter is a man-made tradition because at Nicea they decided they didn't want anything to do with anything Jewish.

If one went by the bible (apostolic teaching), then Passover would be on 4/21 (Thursday), unleavened bread 4/22 (Friday full moon), first of firstfruits on 4/23. First fruits 4/24.

Pascha is a floating observance. Easter is fixed to the first Sunday after the first full moon (not coinciding if full moon falls on a Sunday, then delayed a week) after the Spring Equinox.

Easter is a pagan holiday whereas, Passover is the date when Jesus was crucified. Thing is, we are nor called to celebrate our Lord's death and resurrection the way the world does. In the two accounts of the last supper, Jesus is very clear when He gave us the communion command. To celebrate something so sacred incorrectly, by the worlds pagan tradition, is indefensible.

Dunno what you're celebrating, but I'm celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord. I don't care a fig when Passover is, and I don't believe the dates are of any magical significance. If you don't think our Lord's rising from the dead is worth celebrating, then don't. He is still risen indeed!

You must be celebrating it with the wrong people.

The world celebrates neither. Why would they? How can they say with us "He is risen! He is risen indeed!"?

Let's not talk nonsense.

I wasn't aware you felt so strongly against the resurrection of Christ. Few Christians would argue that Christ's resurrection and the celebration of said resurrection is pagan.

Oh, you must be laboring under the myth that "Easter" is pagan because it's about celebrating Ishtar or some other nonsense. I recommend doing the barest amount of research on this, you've been duped into drinking the Hislop juice.

So you obviously dont care when the Messiah died then. Celebrating him rising from the grave is great, but he said to remember his death as well, so you cant ignore that and say ill remember when he rose only.

And if dates dont have any significance, then First Fruits was a waste as he rose on that and Pentecost was a waste of time too, but since the date was significant, they were there to get the Holy Spirit.

Orthodox Pascha is May 1st this year. I propose the Gregorian calendar reforms and the revised computus are partially to blame for the unpleasantness of early Easter; what is in place now in most churches is not the Nicene Paschalion.

That said, the remarks that "Easter is a pagan holiday" are rather inflammatory nonsense. We were subjected to a veritable barrage of anti-Christmas threads in December, and I am dreading a forthcoming barrage of Quartodecimian threads in March.

Yes, the easter egg hunt, the sunrise service, the bunny and egg activities for the children... this must be what Christ meant when He said to "do this in remembrance of Me", right?

As far as the origin of these celebrations, you must be a fool to say they are not from pagan origins and Christened by the early church. Whether or not you think of that as any consequence, is entirely your prerogative, but don't, so obviously, show your ignorance on something that even people that don't study to know these things, understand.

None of what you mentioned relates in any respect to the Orthodox observance of Pascha, nor indeed, strictly speaking, to the Western observance. Did the Easter Bunny come from Paganism? I don't know; I also could not care less.

Any church is free to celebrate Easter any day they choose. The most widely recognized date for Easter this year 3/27/16. Celebrating Christ's resurrection that day is not a pagan thing. Easter bunnies and egg hunts are reminders of new life in springtime, and they can be linked to new life in Christ. People who criticize Easter celebrations are falling into the trap of making man-made regulations above and beyond our freedom in Christ.

Tell us, how did Jesus ask us to commemorate His death burial and resurrection?

He didn't.

Though He did institute the Holy Eucharist at His Last Supper which the Church has done since the beginning.

Yes, the easter egg hunt, the sunrise service, the bunny and egg activities for the children... this must be what Christ meant when He said to "do this in remembrance of Me", right?

Other than the Paschal service none of those things have anything to do with the Christian celebration of Pascha/Easter. And what Christ commanded with "Do this for the remembrance of Me" refers to the Holy Eucharist.

As far as the origin of these celebrations, you must be a fool to say they are not from pagan origins and Christened by the early church. Whether or not you think of that as any consequence, is entirely your prerogative, but don't, so obviously, show your ignorance on something that even people that don't study to know these things, understand.

You've confused children's activities--egg hunts--with the Christian Feast of Holy Pascha (Easter) which have nothing to do with the holy feast, and aren't pagan either.

You're right. The sun and new moon must both be past the spring equinox.

PS. I'll edit my previous post.

Because it falls under whenever the Jewish calendar sets for the Passover, Judaism follows a lunar calendar. Whereas we follow a solar calendar. They do not always sync up timewise. In fact I believe passover falls on the same date every 7 years. I am not lunar calender expert

You shouldn't worry about it. They are of a different religion from OO/EO and RC/P.

Canon VII of Second Ecumenical Council
Arians, and Macedonians, and Sabbatians, and Novatians, who call themselves Cathari or Aristori, and Quarto-decimans or Tetradites, and Apollinarians, we receive, upon their giving a written renunciation [of their errors] and anathematize every heresy which is not in accordance with the Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church of God.
