The most difficult people I've ever had to
witness to were people who claimed to be
Christian but held deep bigotry not only
towards ethnic groups but also towards people
who were poor.

A Lebanese missionary to Muslims once told me that forgiveness is harder to come by in Islam than in Christianity. Really, the Muslims he's talked to seem to dismiss the forgiveness we have in Christ as too good to be true. Also, many don't dare challenge their own faith because of family pressures.

I have seen videos about how Christians in mostly Muslim lands are treated. Many are martyred or had their churches burned, for instance. Could this happen one day in the US, I mean the martyrdom of Christians here?
It's more likely that it will happen at the hands of extreme secularists than Muslims. Mainly because being non-religious is more popular than being Muslim is right now.

Many muslims falsely believe things about Jesus that have been passed down from many generations, such as that the christian bible is corrupt. Many of them also believe things of their own religion that doesn't make sense. For example, tell them that it is absolutely impossible that one can keep track of all their wrong doings, and try and balance them out by doing good. Also, God doesn't need us, he wants us to be forgiven because he loves us, he doesn't need us nor does he require our works because the bible says "for by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves it is a gift of God not of works lest any man should boast." The bible also says "no flesh shall glory in his presence". So when a muslim tries to balance his bad deeds out with good deeds it is futile. Also, the bible says that we are born sinners, so we do bad deeds because we are bad. We don't do good deeds because we are good, but we try to do these to try and be good. So by doing good deeds doesnt change the fact that man has a sin nature.

Well muslims do know about Jesus but they have other ideas about who he is.
A lady in my bible study said she witnessed to a muslim who had memorized old testament scripture, so they do know the OT bible. Just plant seeds and pray for them, its very difficult to be a christian in a muslim country or family as they can get in trouble so they have to be secret believers.

Lots of muslims report seeing visions of Jesus who reaches them through their dreams to come to know Him. Then they start seeking and asking questions, which of course we christians can answer. Muslims are quite literate people as tehy are dsciplined to read their holy book, the koran, and they respect books. So maybe the best way to reach them is by giving them the new testament in their own language.

Whether it would be easier or more difficult to witness to a Muslim would vary from person to person so there is no real answer.

What would make it easier is the fact that we do share common ground and there are certain things that both sides must accept to be either a Christian or Muslim. This allows you to make arguments that force them to accept your premise because if they reject it, they would be rejecting Islam at the same time. So in this regards, it is easier than talking to a different kind of unbeliever because these people wouldn't necessarily have to accept what you are saying.

What could make it harder is the fact that Islam makes arguments against Christianity so you must break these down to advance any further. If you were speaking to other unbelievers, you start off with basically a clean slate so you would just have to give them a reason to believe what you are saying. If a Muslim is open minded then you can easily answer the objections that they raise but with others, you may simply reach a point where you have to agree to disagree.

My advice for somebody who would want to do this is that they need to have a firm understand of both Christianity and Islam and they must know what objections a Muslim will raise beforehand so that they will know how to respond. What I am saying applies to Muslims in Western countries because in the Middle East and other Islamic countries, it is far more difficult for other reasons. Promoting Christianity may be illegal in a country so this would endanger anybody who tried to witness to them and apostasy in Islam is punished with the death penalty so anybody who converts is immediately in danger. Even in the West some apostates are killed but it is less common.

The bible also says "no flesh shall glory in his presence".

That does not mean good deeds are not rewarded. The bible says those who turn many to righteousness shall shine like the stars forever and ever
Everyone who is saved turns many to righteousness. Just think of the thief though he repented at the last minute he brought many to salvation by emulating him mostly unbelievers who are worthy of mercy
But not everyone will be saved in the last moment so we have to do good like the wise virgins because many are called but few are chosen only some deserve more patience than others
They shall shine to those in hell for the brief moment they get to see them and they will remember them forever
