As i was reading chapter 14, verse 9 stood out for me:

"Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.."

This reminds me of the verses that speak of how those who mock at sin, do so to their own destruction, and they slowly dig their own grave, so to speak.

Tragic.

3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge. - Proverbs 14

For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. - 2 Thessalonians 3:11
And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. - 1 Timothy 5:13

Addressing the issues of busybodies... Or those who for lack of better things to do spend their days in gossip and strife... Having within themselves a rod of pride... Such avoid and go from their presence!

I work at a large factory and have moved myself up to Lab Technician. Before that I was a sample maker and my company has sent me to Michigan to make samples and to Rhode Island for plating classes. While doing all of this I was taking courses that would earn me a couple of degrees in programming.

I have met people on my journeys... "So smart they won't even talk to you." I am not talking about management and hourly folk, I am talking about the research and development people who are very busy in their designing projects. If you meet them in the hallway they will just give you a strange look and keep on going. Like the quoted proverbs they desire to depart your presence.

Additionally, professional people have no use for gossipy people and the sexual affairs of the time. As a matter of fact, they will drive you from their presence, sometimes with pink slip in hand, for such activity. And not to mention, it is not comely for a man or a woman to be caught in gossip and such affairs.

After Michigan's loss to Michigan State earlier this year the coach made the comment that the team was going to have put some 'steel in their spine' and get over it. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves to put steel in our spine and not partake of the foolishness of the time.

Proverbs 14:12 "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death."
Notice Solomon say "seems right to a man" he doesn't say it is right and in fact follows it up by saying, "the end is the way to death." There is a difference between what is right or what the Lord says is right and often what seems right to man. With the Lord there is life but if we walk in our own ways there is only death.

I'm sorry I haven't been putting much time into this lately. I've been reading the chapters but I just haven't had much to say.

Speaking of pride.... Proverbs 14

my roommate decided that it was a good time to talk about my job and being a slave to it (talking about things he ought not to). He thinks I should get myself a better paying job to get my "value" of life from it. I know he doesn't know what he's talking about, but couldn't help being hurt over it from getting home from a funeral.
How do I talk to an unbeliever that this is where God wants me to be for now?

verse 14
The backslider gets bored with himself; the Godly man's life is exciting.

life application Bible comment:
...when God has first priority, life becomes an adventure. Even our routine projects tale on meaning and promise because they hold a greater purpose,....

Yes! Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!

Hi Swan 7...sorry the reply is late...I would just say straight out that this is where I know God wants me to be for now.

I trust all went well and that your Christmas was good.

In reading Proverbs 14, verse 2 stood out for me:

"He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him."

This is PROFOUND. Here we have what is meant by "fearing the Lord", and it includes "LOVING" God. It spells it out, that one who "hates" (despises) the Lord, has no Godly "fear" of Him, but a contemptuous hatred and mocking of God, which bears the fruit of "perverseness" (persistent or obstinate in what is wrong, turned away from or rejecting what is right, good, or proper; wicked or corrupt.)

Along with the above verse there's verse 6:

"A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth."

This means that a "scorner" (mocker) cannot gain wisdom, as wisdom is only given to those who "fear God". A scorner/mocker doesn't. They "despise" (hate) God, and there it is. They have NO love for God.

How abysmal (like an abyss; immeasurably deep or great, extremely or hopelessly bad or severe = hopelessly tragic, as in "no remedy")

Reminds me of Proverbs 29:1"

"He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy."

Tragic.

Proverbs 14:

In reading Proverbs 14, this verse got me to thinkin'.....

it IS true that when we harbor TOXIC thoughts, intents, and conditions of our heart and soul, that this really DOES occur, doesn't it?

These kinds of conditions breed disease.

Literally.

Tragic.
