Hi Everybody,

Four or five months ago if you'd have told me that my priest and I'd be reconciled, I'd be Orthodox, and I'd be a Reader, I'd have thought you're nuts. Well, God's grace overflows and here I am.

Father told me he wants me reading again and I'm already on the schedule to read.

In addition, it's pretty much official now that we DO NOT have a deacon anymore. Our deacon refuses to talk to Father, won't tell him why he and his wife and kids bailed on our parish, and he disappeared. A lot of parishioners are deeply disturbed and hurt by this. I know a lot more now today after talking to some important folks than I knew previously. This whole thing with our deacon coming into our parish as a stranger, instantly becoming a Reader, pushing his way into everything, wife taking over, then fast-tracked into the diaconate, and pushing folks like me around then----POOF! He's gone, it has really given everyone motion sickness.

A fellow parishioner with whom I'm close friends thinks this was all of the devil. This guy that was our deacon has been in and out of a bunch of denominations trying his best to control the flocks, take over, and usually has been kicked-out. This time he made it super far into the ranks, but disappeared? Several of us think this was Satan's wiles. My wife, friends, and I have felt this stuff was really unhealthy.

Father is healing, doing so much better, and has an ear-to-ear smile, lots of joy on his face. He is energized, happier, and back to his former self. It's like King Theoden after having Grima Wormtongue kicked out of Rohan and the power of Sauramon no longer an influence. We all see a difference.

Frankly, I've never seen anything like this before and I've been in Catholicism, Anglicanism, and Orthodoxy, and close to several Protestants. Never seen a crazy development like this.

Please pray that Father can continue to recover from his wounds (he is out of the hospital and celebrating our Divine Liturgies on Sunday but can only be there 3 hours. No confessions, no home visits, no counseling, no meetings, no middle of the week liturgies). He is going to have a couple more surgeries in the next couple months. He's not finished, but he IS finally healing. He is spiritually in GREAT spirits. He has tried so hard to be especially kind to me and further OUR healing. I appreciate it a lot.

Please pray for our parish. It's in dramamine motion sickness mode, but healing and getting better! Keep us in your prayers.

Please pray for me that I can be a good Orthodox Christian and a good Reader again!

I truly hope I can please the Lord.

Know that you are pleasing Him right now by sharing this glorious news. Also pray for the soul of your former deacon and his family that they can escape the clutches of evil, if indeed that is what they are struggling with. Prayers for you and all at your parish!

When you put it that he'd been in and out of a few denominations, wow, that really fits a profile. I'd presumed he'd been Orthodox a long time from your stories.

I wish you all the best in your adventures in literacy.

I'm so glad for you - things have really worked out now - and of course it all has followed that One Person's plan for you :)

Look after Father - he needs you and your whole Church family [ 'cos that's what you are ] to keep him in your prayers [ yeah - I know I really don't need to say it - but our priests are our treasures and I suspect we don't realise how much we need them ]

The journey your former deacon took has rung lots of bells with me - yes I've seen something like this where a man has gone church hopping and sadly been accepted instead of the question " Why ? " being asked loud and clear and long.

Know you are in my prayers

Anhelyna - the great sinner

Wonderful news, Gurney! So glad to hear your priest and parish and relationships are returning to health. I will keep you in my prayers.

It does indeed sound as though your deacon needs prayer as well. To pray for him would be healing for you.

God be with you all!

Thank you, everybody. I'm really excited. You know, I talked to Father's wife, our Protenica. She was telling me that she always rejoices when I'm at church. I asked her why? She said she knows the struggles I went through and she is grateful to God that I forgave Father. She said she loves seeing my two sons serving at the altar, and for me to read again, she's thrilled. She said, "I know it's hard for you." I said, "hard? You mean coming to church on Sunday? I've only missed one liturgy in like 9 weeks?" She said, "no, not showing up. It's hard BEING ORTHODOX! I struggle every day. It's just hard BEING in the faith. You know what I mean?"

Simple, almost childishly simple, statement, but it really sums it up. Orthodoxy IS hard. But I think that's what makes it right. I have to constantly tell myself to stay Orthodox. I have to constantly remind myself to pray. I have to regularly tell myself why I need to get up early, not eat on Sunday am, and go clear up there. It's something I have to fight along with. But even the wife of a priest has to do the same thing. And I think that struggle comes from Satan constantly badgering us. He puts in overtime with a religion that can really change you. He spends less time on cults and country clubs with crosses. He puts in overtime for us and is a busy demon.

Anhelyna is helping me try to find some websites for reading. She gave me some I'm looking into via email.

I'd like to find some really solid Julian Calendar (Serbian) Orthodox website that lists the prokeimena and alleluias and readings for each Sunday....Does anyone have some sights to add to Anhelyna's? She's been a great help. I could always use more sources. Thanks, everyone.

Lord have mercy and may the Holy Spirit guide your bishop, priest, you and all the parish, in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, amen.

My prayers have taught me, it's hard and gets harder because the closer you get to theosis, the more the devil and demons will tempt and torture you and try to rip you from the Way.

There are some great Orthodox calendar apps. I use a Russian Orthodox one from a church in Georgia ( USA). You can probably find a Serbian one as well.

Gurney - just had a thought [ no rude comments please - I leave those to my GodPapa - he's excellent with them ;) ]

Does your Cathedral have a Typicon to which you could get access ? This would have absolutely everything that you need. Why not try someone there - pointing our that with Father still largely unavailable you need to get stuff ready before Saturday to give you a chance to prepare properly.
