Rev 21:8 But the fearful... shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone ...oh dear

According to Jamieson, Fausset and Brown's Bible Commentary, a better translation would be "the cowardly."

I think it is meant to basically indicate faithlessness in God's plan.

It is like finding those things that happen in threes. Just before the seventh plague, Yeshua will say these same words, "It is done". And on the cross, He said "It is finished" And now in
Rev 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
The Greek word in each case is different and it is ginomaee, for the last time in Rev.

8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me. 9 But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your fellow prophets and with all who keep the words of this scroll. Worship God!”

I always thought it strange after all the John has had revealed to him, he fell down to worship at the feet of the angel. Surely, my mind thinks, he of all people should know better. He is the beloved one of Yeshua. He is the blessed on to be the only living apostle. He is the one who in vision is given the grandiose view of all the will come to pass. He, up to this moment, has worshiped God.
yes I always suspected he was just a little drunk with fear , awe, Love , hate.. all of it ..intense. and feeling very small in that moment.
what he is doing is showing that he is thinking something like " everything is bigger badder and better than me.. I'm a worm " so he in his profound moment of being small. sees the angel was Bigger and badder than he should have . he just had all those visions of stuff just to Big to explain or understand From HIS " Yeshua "/ his best buddy , that nice guy who heals the sick and set the captive free..
I just saw fire shoot from his mouth ..

all the prophets talk about their moments of just confounded awe. for a few minutes I think they lose track of who they are in the face of what they are seeing . then he is also having to try related what he has just seen to the Yeshua he knows. the poor simple healer "that God raised from the dead" . so what a difference a dream( vision / day dream ? ) can make.

Revelation 2King James Version (KJV)

1.Spirit of the Lord
1.Ephesus(which means "desirable")
1.Passover(Pesach)-Nisan 14-15

2 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.
7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

2.Spirit of wisdom
2.Smyrna(sweet smelling like myrrh)
2.Unleavened Bread(Chag Hamotzi)-Nisan 15-22
8 And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;
9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

3.Spirit of understanding
3.Pergamos(elevated, or "exalted")
3.First Fruits(Yom habikkurim)-Nisan 16-17

12 And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;
13 I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.
14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.
16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches;

To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

4.Spirit of counsel
4.Thyatira(sacrifice of contrition" or " sweet savor of labor")
4.Pentecost(Shavu'ot)-Sivan 6-7

18 And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;
19 I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.
20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.
22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
24 But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.
25 But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.
26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
28 And I will give him the morning star.

29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Revelation 3King James Version (KJV)

5.Spirit of might
5.Sardis(renewal)
5.Trumpets(Yom Teru'ah)-Tishri 1

3 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.
5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

6.Spirit of knowledge
6.Philadelphia(brotherly love)
6.Atonement(Yom Kippur)-Tishri 10

7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;
8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

7. fear of the Lord;
7.Laodicea(Judging the people)
7.Tabernacles(Sukkot)-Tishri 15-22

14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

BACKGROUND

I have always considered the Book of the Revelation of Yeshua to John on Patmos the greatest written text in existence.

For a long time I have considered the final chapter of Revelation particularly important.

It's importance derives from it being the last chapter in the last book. This is his final words to mankind. His last message.

Possibly, some epistle could have been written after this. Maybe, chronologically speaking, it is not the final Inspired Word of God to make it into text format.
But it is very clear - to me - that Revelation is intended to be placed, both physically and (more importantly) conceptually, as the last book in a collection of books.

And of course, God might speak to us spiritually at any moment. But as regards the revealed Word placed into hierotextual format, Rev. 22 is the last installment, as I see it.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this thread is to provide a specific avenue for studies and contemplations relating specifically to the last chapter of the Bible, the last chapter of the Word of God.
Particularly, I will be looking at this chapter not just as a chapter unto itself, but specifically analyzing it in light of its being the final chapter.

Formatting choices:
Instead of paragraphs I decided making each verse (according to their traditional versification) its own paragraph, as making it into smaller units facilitates both reading as well as serious analysis and study thereof. It will be easier to notice patterns, contrasts, juxtapositions, repetitions, development of ideas, etc.

I decided to incorporate the red letter format, whereby the utterances traditionally ascribed to Yeshua are colored red. It appears to me the red letters Bibles sometimes inaccurately ascribe certain utterances to Yeshua, but, while prone to flaws, it can be a useful tool for study purposes.

The red letter format helps us to specifically focus in on the last words of Yeshua to mankind. As an example, the study of this subject could lead us to compare or contrast his "last words" to the Disciples, at his Ascension from the mount of olives, or the "last words" on the cross, or the "last words" prior to that, at the last supper.

Warning:
If you believe the Revelation of John (as it is usually called) is actually not the final book of the Bible, and / or that Rev. 22 is not the final chapter, then obviously this thread is not for you. That being said, I'm aware that other Biblical texts may have been written after Revelation, yet nevertheless find Revelation to be clearly inteded to be placed last in the collection of books. So it is - at least - conceptually the last book.

THE FULL TEXT OF THE REVELATION OF YESHUA TO JOHN, CH. 22
Ca. 95 CE.

1Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb

2
down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.

3
No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him.

4
They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.

5
There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

6The angel said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.”

7“Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.”

8I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me.

9
But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your fellow prophets and with all who keep the words of this scroll. Worship God!”

10Then he told me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this scroll, because the time is near.

11
Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy.”

12“Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.

13
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

14“Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.

15
Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

16“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”

17The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

18I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll.

19
And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.

20He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

21The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.
yes I truly love Revelation not because he gives us pictures of the end times. but it is the only book with a blessing attached for just reading it .. in it we learn who he is why it has to be done in his way . if for no other reason that it inspires so many questions it becomes the catalyst for a on going relationship that changes us, always changes us . I think the more we know of him the more we understand the Book that explains him/ the right arm most . and the laws that govern who he is and who we are.

I also think it is interesting that this whole book and prophesy is pictured as a scroll , John eats a scroll and is told he will preach again to kings .. and the seals are on a scroll. again three, but three or 4 different scrolls in this book or are they all the same one ?

and
11Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy.”

this is the verse he used to explain to be what sin is .
it is usurping the will of another.
we can't control or change anyone we can only offer them a new way when and if they have become sick of their old way . but they have to ask for it and they have to want it or they will not submit to the changes required to Gain His Life .

ok so bug was better.. I meant he had to feel small in a very big plan.
I try not to reveal to much of what I have learned from the Holy Spirit. It is a shyness of mine. I was trying to Hint. I just didnt want to take the discovery away. But sometimes I am haste. Please forgive my lack of clarity. Perspective is a word I gave for a reason.

This Book shook me to my bones...

When you Read Job you will see 4 Men come to him during His sorrow. One speaks of the worm.

Job Chapter 25

וַיַּעַן, בִּלְדַּד הַשֻּׁחִי; וַיֹּאמַר. 1 {S} Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said:
ב הַמְשֵׁל וָפַחַד עִמּוֹ; עֹשֶׂה שָׁלוֹם, בִּמְרוֹמָיו. 2 Dominion and fear are with Him; He maketh peace in His high places.
ג הֲיֵשׁ מִסְפָּר, לִגְדוּדָיו; וְעַל-מִי, לֹא-יָקוּם אוֹרֵהוּ. 3 Is there any number of His armies? And upon whom doth not His light arise?
ד וּמַה-יִּצְדַּק אֱנוֹשׁ עִם-אֵל; וּמַה-יִּזְכֶּה, יְלוּד אִשָּׁה. 4 How then can man be just with God? Or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?
ה הֵן עַד-יָרֵחַ, וְלֹא יַאֲהִיל; וְכוֹכָבִים, לֹא-זַכּוּ בְעֵינָיו. 5 Behold, even the moon hath no brightness, and the stars are not pure in His sight;
ו אַף, כִּי-אֱנוֹשׁ רִמָּה; וּבֶן-אָדָם, תּוֹלֵעָה. 6 How much less man, that is a worm! and the son of man, that is a maggot!

Job Chapter 26 אִיּוֹב

א וַיַּעַן אִיּוֹב, וַיֹּאמַר. 1 {S} Then Job answered and said:

Job 26:1

But Job answered and said,
Job 26:2

How hast thou helped him that is without power? how savest thou the arm that hath no strength?
Job 26:3

How hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom? and how hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it is?
Job 26:4

To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose spirit came from thee?
Job 26:5

Dead things are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants thereof.
Job 26:6

Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.
Job 26:7

He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.
Job 26:8

He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them.
Job 26:9

He holdeth back the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud upon it.
Job 26:10

He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.
Job 26:11

The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof.
Job 26:12

He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud.
Job 26:13

By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.
Job 26:14

Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand?

years of awesome revelations of who God is and it's hiding there.

Well each of the chapters in Revelationd deserve an entire book devoted to it.

The pronouncement on the seven congregations are of course a very rich part of the book.
Rev. 2 and 3 give us a set of seven, and hence they can be correlated to any other set of seven, which provides many interpretational possibilities.

Many words have been written about this. Most likely, multiple intepretations are valid, such as a chronological interpretation (eg. placing Thyatira as a representative of the middle ages, Laodicea as modernism) or as a reference to modern churches existing in the end times (eg. Thyatira as seventh-day Adventism, with its female "prophetess" Ellen White) and so on.

However the final chapter or sections of the book has a particular value worth investigating.

Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.

this one is interesting !

the last time he visited part of it as a man the result was , he emptied out some it..
so when as creator God when "Life" looks upon ( hell/ Death) the dead can't hide anymore from hm , SO again will it be emptied of everything ?
I think so.
reaping and sowing time. when everyone sees what it was they really built in their life . for those who refused to use their time(a gift from blood of The Lamb to all equally ) to use that wisely before the very last Yom Kippur.

Actually I was taught the verses (1 Peter 3:19-20) you are referring to in all likelihood did not refer to the dead humans, but rather to evil spirits (particularly the fallen angels mentioned in Enoch) who were imprisoned in the days of Noah.

The days of Noah, as Enoch records, is when the evil spirits started to work upon the earth.

They were swiftly imprisoned by God, and subsequently Yeshua went to call some of those evil spirits to repentance. His coming to these angels in the abyss (called Tartarus in the NT) would have been also in the days of Noah.

so yes but I think all of the hells and deaths from all times and all ages get emptied by his presence . the point of these places mankind created by their own choices was where all those powers and authorities and kings all those people who "do their own thing "could go to hide from God.. but when LIFE and His light , his breath enters sleep/ death / hell/ the hells/ all of them will be they be emptied right ? where he is is LIFE . where they all have been is in man's hiding places that man chose to exist away from God and his light and life .. I mean if God / His life / His light gets to close they just go commit suicide so they can hide there in the darkness mankind created .
but once hell/ death is emptied where can they hide from his words?
so that like from the John's ( and more , but "the labors are few" ) who was prophesied still to preach to kings again in a bittersweet time... yet he died there on Patmos right?
so what is the time to come when all kings and any thing else of the earth ages will be removed from hell/ death / darkness . and in His mercy I think mankind gets to see exactly what they have built in their special
time of their own knowledge of " Good and evil" . maybe it turns out they were't exactly like gods! and so in his mercy he shows what are the powers and authorities are over their life. some "will be saved as though by fire" so maybe hiding in his wrath is also his mercy.
I mean as man He died and rose from death and thus bought that place legally and has rights over mans secret place .

and certainly I am not saying I have it all right or pictured purfect. that won't be possible . but do pray about that because there appears from what I can find to be few workers who have their oil and are thus prepared for that bitter sweet time ahead. we all want to go off to lalaland and I totally get that. but what is he really training us for then? but I sure wonder if that is not what he is and has been looking for or is needing for the next age/times ahead . I know Paul is worried about that time period around the resurrection also. maybe we all should be a little worried about it too.

Tartarus was not emptied, as multiple evil spirits are released from Tartarus to attack and torment mankind in the book of Revelation.
In fact, while Scripture says Yeshua preached to the evil spirits in Tartarus, it does not actually specify that any of them repented.

However, it could be implied that just as 8 human beings were saved from the flood, 8 evil spirits were reformed into good spirits.
