The specific bias I mentioned- that also effects some whites- is purely ethnic bias and not an example of racism.
You can play that game for any example of "racism" because racism is not a reaction to anything real. It's a reaction to a whole heap of illusiory ideas bouncing around in people's heads.

I think using the example of names on applications is a terrible example to attempt to use for claiming racism, when it is demonstrably ethnic. Your sarcasm is not going to magically make it otherwise.

ETA: Why is that? Because it doesn't affect anyone that has an Anglo sounding name! It doesn't affect blacks, whites, and whoever else if their name sounds Anglo. It does affect blacks, whites, and whoever else if their names don't. This implies ethnic bias.

Are you serious?
It not unreasonable to ask evidence for a claim ebia.
"Race" isn't something real at all. It's a vague set of ideas in people's heads, that connects a whole lot of stuff, half of it completely imaginary.

In people's heads, names and ethnic appearance correlate.
What!? I'm talking about skin color not race. How you even got the idea for the tangent response is beyond me.

Holmes, Sociolinguistics, 2013
This book? If so what page number or chapter?
The OP question is what is meant by...
I'm not asking the OP though, I'm asking you personally.

You can define "white privilege" to mean "people who wear a bit of white paper on their head get served faster in McDonald's" and go on to show that they don't, but you won't have done anything useful.
I have given my definition already in this thread ebia, your side remarks is unneeded.

Things like, you're more likely to get a job interview if your application has an Anglo or European name than if it has an African or Asian one.

Do you have any source for Asian names?

The examples I saw that compared 'black' (not African) names to 'white' names actually did no such thing. It more compared unusual names to unusual names. Not an Ian, Paddy or Moon Unit to be found in the 'white' list. Over half the 'Black' names were political statement names, one expects a hit when you do that.

It's when you exercise your right in an open-carry state to walk down the street with a rifle in your hands and the police talk to you for half an hour without even pulling out their guns and certainly without throwing you down on the ground.

It's when you get pulled over by the police for missing a license plate and it doesn't end up with you getting shot in the head or even going to jail no matter how much you verbally abuse the officer.

It's when you truly don't expect this to happen to you, even when you're doing everything you can not to resist arrest:

This!

I think in some ways privilege does not have the right connotation. The connotation of privilege is getting special positive treatment and what I see as the reality in California today is actually the lack of improper treatment. Easy to not see that as privilege.

Responding to your post reminded me of a little piece of expecting proper treatment I do not think twice about. The legal requirement for renewing your vehicle registration in California is that you mail the check the day your old registration expires. That means driving for a while with expired tags. I think nothing of this. If I were black I'd be sure to mail things off a month or more early to avoid the possibility of being pulled over for expired tags. Two months is I had to drive through certain cities, like Signal Hill.

But it does not feel like privilege because it is just expecting to be treated as I expect everyone to be treated.

It's not "all or nothing", and neither is White priveledge meant to be "every single white gets this and every single black gets the other".

People of the same race can be of entirely different ethnicities. I'm getting the distinct impression you don't realize that. Racism is a belief that a race is either superior or inferior and all discrimination et cetera of what one considers to be an inferior race is based on the assumption that one's own race is superior.

That's not the case here.

ETA: The concept of race is based on classifying the physical characteristics of others. The concept of ethnicity is based around a shared nationality or culture.

I think a great many people confuse ethnocentrism with racism and they are not the same thing. The study we've been talking about demonstrates an ethnic bias, which implies ethnocentrism. It cannot be determined that the bias is racially motivated unless you can account for that specifically.

If anyone ever says you have white privilege, either turn the other way and run or help them seek the mental help they need.

In countries where the overwhelming majority of people are white (European countries minus Sweden, Canada, Australia, USA), of course more white people are going to hold positions of power. Of course more white people are going to be represented in the media. There's nothing wrong with that either.

These people honestly believe white privilege exists in African and Asian countries, where the populations could be said to have "Black/Brown" privilege themselves. Then again these people also believe any non-white person cannot be racist. These people live in a tumblr-socialist bubble.

Ask the Irish or Eastern Europeans about having "White Privilege" also.

I think we can be fairly certain that the term, white privilege, is a racist pejorative.
It's the neo-hate speech term that can be invoked by those of color as a means of invoking a racist term without appearing to be racist. Putting the blame on the Caucasian race by calling their existence one that is imbued with privilege above all others.
An absurd connotation of course. However, in the politically correct spectrum acceptable to those who are opposed to a particular ethnic group, speak boldly in that regard, and yet invoke a term that relieves them of that responsibility while superficially slurring their target.
Those type aren't usually well traveled.
If they ventured to India they'd have cause to manufacture the slur, caste privilege. But that's a new term for a fact that has been extant in that country for generations.
Were they to venture to Saudi Arabia they'd learn rather quickly that Arab privilege supersedes all else. And just how mightily and by rule of law.

You might find those who are prone to using the term, white privilege, are those who hate are expressing hate speech because they hate white people.
Racism is a dis-ease. Best to ignore that for which there is no cure. Especially when it defends its symptomatology as a positive.

or help them seek the mental help they need.

What a great example of Christian love and charity. So much for loving your neighbor, treating others as you want to be treated, letting your light shine before men, not judging others, turning the other cheek, loving your enemies, praying for your enemies, and doing good to your enemies. In fact, Mahatma Gandhi's quote comes to mind.

Helping them seek mental help is helping them out so I'm not sure what you're rambling on about tbh.
Although I'll admit I do despise most of my neighbours. Also I really don't care much for what Gandhi had to say.

Directed by filmmaker and journalist Jose Antonio Vargas, the film follows conversations with White people about their race and privilege. It is part of MTV's "Look Different" campaign. I thought your original comment sounded very facetious and sarcastic. Perhaps I was mistaken.

Also I really don't care much for what Gandhi had to say.

So, the image of Christ and of Christians to the outside world doesn't matter?

I don't think a lot of Christians realize what kind of an impact their attitude or their words and actions can have on the non-Christians around them.

Here Here!

Not much to say to people who are critical of your view. But when someone agrees, they get this response.

Yes, looks like you are definitely interested in a discussion.

That's nice to know. So, I take it you don't wave to them on your way to church on Sunday.
Nope. Thankfully most people keep to themselves around here. Plus I also never said I attended church every Sunday, did I?

I just don't care what a racist sexual deviant has to say.

I do encourage people to in fact watch that MTV documentary above. It will show you just how far MTV has fallen.
