Peter's vision in Acts meant that God had made the Gentiles clean. And that he as a Jew was not to regard people God made clean as unclean. Hence, Peter was to go to Cornelius's house and preach. As far as I am aware, and I have studied that passage, it wasn't talking about Jews at all.
What about Hebrews 7.12 and Hebrews 7.19? are people from any background still really under the law?

Again, with Hebrews 7, the emphasis is the sacrifice, not things like tattoos or kosher foods and so forth.

For Jew and Gentile, salvation comes by grace, through faith. It is found in Jesus Christ, his death and resurrection paid the sin debt of all that believe on him and give their lives to him. Jews do not have to restrict themselves to a certain diet or refrain from tattoos so they don't lose their salvation. Rather:

"Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law." - Rom. 3:31

I don't really think that God cares whether or not you have a tattoo. I think that having a tattoo has any importance in morals or in Christian theology. What God cares about is that you are doing something to bring life into creation and to live in light of the cross. To conclude, this debate over whether or not it is acceptable to have a tattoo is pointless and in the end doesn't glorify God.

My mom got her tattoo at 50 something
When your mom was a lot younger, it wasn't something that a lot of women did. But now it's something that women do very widely. Your mom must have gotten the confidence to do it, seeing as so many women now do it.

Dear faithfulandtrue, I am all for that you disagree with tattoos. It is 1Corinthians that says our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit who is in you. I believe the HS doesn't want to live in anywhere that is undefiled. :amen::amen.
That is what the Bible says, if we want to a home for the HS.

What do you think of faith based tattoos which are proven effective as conversation-starters and which are specifically gotten for witness purposes?

Blessings.

My husband and I both have tattoos. He got his when he was younger. He was having one covered up with a rose ( it was the only thing that would fit) Now this was about 5 or 6 years ago. I got one on my upper arm LUKE, my favorite chapter and where my husband and i both were reading when we were dateing 17 years ago, I am proud of it. Not that I go aroung showing it off or anything like that but it does open up a way to talk about our Lord to others when they ask what LUKE means. I am around a lot of young people and you wouldnt belive how many ask and how many i get to tell about God.
Yes, it can be effective in witness and a form of marital bonding also.

.. if a tattoo is a CHRISTIAN tattoo it's a great way to make a sort of silent, yet colorful, statement of what we believe. I think that a visual representation of Christ's influence on our lives is a quick way to bring Christ into someone's life who may not think of God otherwise. It serves as a symbol of what I hold as important - Christ!
As long as it's not promoting a sin.. and is meaningful ... why not?
Since I got two Christian tattoos .. I have been able to bring up my beliefs and be a witness to quite a number of people. I think of it as a permanent way to wear a "WWJD" bracelet... ;)
I believe that other tattoos based on other things rather than just God serve as a creative outlet. Just as people wear makeup, others choose to be inked. Perhaps it's just a personal opinion. Whatever it is though, I think it would be wise for anyone getting a tattoo to pray about it and wait to see if God gives guidance.
Yes, many Christians like you choose to use this means of witness.

My daughter wasn't allowed to get her tattoo until she was 18. I do think you should be 18 or older before you decide ..
Hi, Zanting:

Doing it is something that 18 year olds now do as a rite of passage thing, when they become adults. It was a quite unsurprising desire for your daughter to want to do.

Some parents would be thrilled if their 18 year old wanted to have a faith based design - however small - inked.

Blessings.

Fair enough. I could note some differences, but that probably wouldn't be effective now. Still, the other part of my post remains. I don't see any positive affirmations of tattoos in the Bible - only negative.

I don't see how this justifies it. Replace what you said with "anything", i.e. I can do anything I want as long as there is a desire to glorify God (1 Cor 10:23).

Suppose there were a law where you live prohibiting signs from being too large or elevated too high (such ordinances do exist). Would you say it's OK to put up a billboard of John 3:16 because it glorifies God? Would you say you are justified in some civil disobedience? Or would it be a better witness to submit to the authorities? ... even though a billboard isn't really going to do major damage?

If you're in a Christian community that frowns on marking the body, would it be better to submit or to proclaim a message of "you can't make me submit"?

How about the alternate question: If you are helping set the tone and contents of your Christian community, would it be better to make a rule about tattoos, or just to leave tatoos untouched in your founding documents?

Hi; so what do you specifically mean with 'founding documents' when it comes to tattoos?

You are temple of God... why graffiti it? Do you think God wants you to have toxins injected into the temple of God? The carrier solution used in tattoo inks contains harmful substances such as denatured alcohols, methanol, antifreeze, detergents, formaldehyde and toxic aldehydes.

Ink quality in tattoo artists' ink has actually improved a lot:
