This thread is very...well odd. You know the good thing about being atheist is that you never really get into serious theological debates.

Nobody has to get into serious theological debates- though many do- including atheists.

ANYWAY- here's another Christian themed movie. It's a really old silent film. Don't let the title fool you though- there are no English subtitles in it anywhere except in the description field.

You usually can catch the Robe on TV this time of year.

Quite likely. However, I first saw it back when I was around fifteen on a TNT New Years' Eve marathon of old Cinemascope/Technicolor films. I had to read the book after seeing the movie.

One could argue that The Shawshank Redemption has a Christian theme. Even if you disagree, it's a great movie anyway.

Wow, there was quite a few posts to remove in clean up. This thread is several pages shorter.

Folks, you need to stay on topic. You also need to keep this rule in mind:

Flaming and Goading
● Please treat all members with respect and courtesy through civil dialogue.
● Do not attack another member's character or actions in any way, address only the content of their post and not the member personally.
● NO Goading. This includes images, cartoons, or smileys clearly meant to goad.
● Only the person to whom the post is addressed may report the other. Anyone may report generalized flames or goads which are addressed to a group of members.
● Moderators have the right to report egregious violations of flaming or goading.
● Clear violations of the flaming rule will result in bans.

Please keep in mind that it is not okay to insult other groups. Also, please keep in mind that sometimes the insult is not meant as such, and the more appropriate response is to simply explain how it is an insult.

The topic is 'your favorite Christian movie' - so stick with that.

(Frankly, the chariot race in Ben Hur was THE BEST!)

Apparently you misjudged our mods. ;)

Any scripture can be used as a club, unfortunately.

Well, I have been away over 2 years.

I'm glad to see we can get back to movies now...and with that in mind...the Robe.

That's always been one of my mom's favorites, but I haven't seen it in quite a while. We can't be with her until after Easter, so maybe we'll hit the movie rental place and see if they have a copy. My kids haven't seen it.

I have a fondness for that era of Technicolor costume dramas, no matter if the subject is Christian or not.

Oh wow...Quo Vadis? That's another good one.

How about HBO's The Tudor's miniseries (Hi, Supreme!)

While not exactly a Christian movie, it certainly does have a good deal of Christian theology in it, since it's set in a time of great upheaval during the Reformation.

I'm not sure how close to history the series stays, other than Cardinal Wolsey committing suicide is very off the rails from every direction. He died of a fever while travelling to Rome. Imagining he killed himself flies in the face of the very staunch view about suicide. I'm sure people did, even clergy, but that part was unnecessary and not reflective of the culture at all.

I'm watching Les Miserables for the umpteenth time It is official. This is my favorite Christian-themed movie. What's your's?
Although that is indeed one of my favorites and I have highly enjoyed it, one that always impacts me is "The Preacher's Wife" - as it concerns the power of remembering what matters in life when you're serving God..

Also, another one I've always enjoyed is called "The Truman Show"

Always enjoyed the film for the central message it plays on when noting that there's something wrong with the world and there's more going on that we're aware of
....

Some of my other favorite films would be ones such as "V for Vendetta" - as I love the theme present with resisting people promoting themselves to be your Saviors when the truth is that they enslave you - whereas those figthing for freedom have to sacrifice themselves in order for others to truly see things as they are..

Oh my goodness! I can’t believe I didn’t remember my absolutely favorite Christian movie.

Black Robe. it wasn’t too popular in theaters, early 1990’s release set in French Canada in the 1500’s about the Jesuit Missions to the Huron Indians.

The Mission with Robert Deniro was a VERY powerful Christian movie.....as I love seeing the dynamics between believers when it comes to knowing what it means to stand for Christ and whether that would involve merely trying to change people's minds - or if that involves taking physical force and action. Truly heart-wrenching to see what happened in the days of slavery occurring in the New World....

I have never even heard of it. It looks interesting. I especially like the music in the trailer.

I forgot about The Surprise, a play by G. K. Chesterton. Not really a movie, but there's a production of the play made for television which sometimes airs around Christmastime on EWTN. Great play about free will and morality, and related things. Actually a play about two plays within a play. It's fun.
