Genesis 6 (KJV)

1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,

2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

I really try to avoid the discussion. It's a curious verse...and as a babe in Christ in the late 80's I believed it was angels inbreeding with women.

After really studying it much later I tend to agree it's simply belivers intermarrying with unbelievers.

Anyway the problem comes in understanding the Hebrew "ben elohiym".

Any interest in discussion of Genesis 6 : 1-4 on the subject of giants, and their relationship to events in scripture.
Here a good study backed from Scripture
Part 1
The progeny of the fallen angels with the daughters of men
re called in Genesis 6, N e-phil´-im, which means fallen ones (from naphal, to fall). What these beings were can be gathered only from Scripture. They were evidently great in size, as well as great in wickedness. They were superhuman, abnormal beings; and their destruction was necessary for the preservation of the human race, and for the faithfulness of Jehovah's Word (Genesis 3:15). This was why the Flood was brouhgt "upon the world of the ungodly" (2Peter 2:5) as prophesied by Enoch (Jude 14).
But we read of the Nephilim again in Numbers 13:33 : "there we saw the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, which come of the Nephilim". How, it may be asked, could this be, if they were all destroyed in the Flood ? The answer is contained in Genesis 6:4, where we read: "There were Nephilim in the earth in those days (that is to say, in the days of Noah); and also AFTER THAT, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became [the] mighty men (Hebrew gibbor, the heroes) which were of old, men of renown" (literally, men of the name, that is to say, who got a name and were renowned for their ungodliness).
So that "after that", that is to say, after the Flood, there was a second irruption of these fallen angels, evidently smaller in number and more limited in area, for they were for the most part confined to Canaan, and were in fact known as "the nations of Canaan". It was for the destruction of these, that the sword of Israel was necessary, as the Flood had been before.
As to the date of this second irruption, it was evidently soon after it became known that the seed was to come through Abraham; for, when he came out from Haran (Genesis 12:6) and entered Canaan, the significant fact is stated: "The Canaanite was then (that is to say, already) in the land." And in Genesis 14:5 they were already known as "Rephaim" and "Emim", and had established themselves as Ashteroth Karnaim and Shaveh Kiriathaim.
In chapter 15:18-21 they are enumerated and named among Canaanite Peoples: "Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims, and the Amorites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites" (Genesis 15:19-21; compare Exodus 3:8,17; 23:23. Deuteronomy 7; 20:17. Joshua 12:8).
These were to be cut off, and driven out, and utterly destroyed (Deuteronomy 20:17. Joshua 3:10). But Israel failed in this (Joshua 13:13; 15:63; 16:10; 17:18. Judges 1:19,20,28,29,30-36; 2:1-5; 3:1-7); and we know not how many got away to other countries to escape the general destruction. If this were recognized it would go far to solve many problems connected with Anthropology.
As to their other names, they were called Anakim, from one Anak which came of the Nephilim (Numbers 13:23), and Rephaim, from Rapha, another notable one among them.
From Deuteronomy 2:10, they were known by some as Emim, and Horim, and Zamzummim (verse 20,21) and Avim, etc.
As Rephaim they were well known, and are often mentioned: but, unfortunately, instead of this, their proper name, being preserved, it is variously translated as "dead", "deceased", or "giants". These Rephaim are to have no resurrection. This fact is stated in Isaiah 26:14 (where the proper name is rendered "deceased", and verse 19, where it is rendered "the dead").
It is rendered "dead" seven times (Job 26:5. Psalm 88:10. Proverbs 2:18; 9:18; 21:16. Isaiah 14:8; 26:19).
It is rendered "deceased" in Isaiah 26:14.

It is retained as proper name "Rephaim" ten times (two being in the margin). Genesis 14:5; 15:20. By reading all these passages the Bible student may know all that can be known about these beings.
It is certain that the second irruption took place before Genesis 14, for there the Rephaim were mixed up with the five nations or peoples, which included Sodom and Gomorrha, and were defeated by the four kings under Chedorlaomer. Their principal locality was evidently "Ashtaroth Karnaim"; while the Emim were in the plain of Kiriathaim (Genesis 14:5).
Anak was a noted descendant of the Nephilim; and Rapha was another, giving their names respectively to different clans. Anak's father was Arba, the original builder of Hebron (Genesis 35:27. Joshau 15:13; 21:11); and this Palestine branch of the Anakim was not called Abrahim after him, but Anakim after Anak. They were great, mighty, and tall (Deuteronomy 2:10,11,21,22,23; 9:2), evidently inspiring the ten spies with great fear (Numbers 12:33). Og king of Bashan is described in Deuteronomy 3:11).
Their strength is seen in "the giant cities of Bashan" to-day; and we know not how far they may have been utilized by Egypt in the construction of buildings, which is still an unsolved problem.
Arba was rebuilt by the Khabiri or confederates seven years before Zoan was built by Egyptian Pharoahs of the nineteenth dynasty. See note on Numbers 13:22.
If these Nephilim, and their branch of Rephaim, were associated with Egypt, we have an explanation of the problem which has for ages perplexed all engineers, as to how those huge stones and monuments were brought together. Why not in Egypt as well as in "the giant cities of Bashan" which exist, as such, to this day?
Moreover, we have in these mighty men, the "men of renown," the explanation of the origin of the Greek mythology. That mythology was no mere invention of the human brain, but it grew out of the traditions, and memories, and legends of the doings of that mighty race of beings; and was gradually evolved out of the "heroes" of Genesis 6:4. The fact that they were supernatural in their origin formed an easy step to their being regarded as the demi-gods of the Greeks.
Thus the Babylonian "Creation Tablets", the Egyptian "Book of the dead", the Greek mythology, and heathen Cosmogonies, which by some are set on an equality with Scripture, or by others adduced in support of it, are all the corruption and perversion of primitive truths, distorted in proportion as their origin was forgotten, and their memories faded away.

Genesis 6. The Nephilim were in the earth in those days, and also after that.

Looking back we can see two eruptions of the nephilim both before and after the flood but there is nothing to say that there will or won't be a third. ALSO AFTER THAT doesn't necessarily mean only one eruption.

There are people out there who believe in a return of the nephilim in the end times , so who knows.

Good point about two eruptions of the nephilim. But I don't think there is going to a return of the nephilim because we don't see any evidence of it right now, and I feel we are very close to formation of the ten king (leader) form of government in the EU.

Which means there just isn't enough time left for a nephilim population to grow up.

Not that I understand all above in the same manner, but, you're forgetting that Scripture constantly gives witness that when the supernatural is in operation, its great power is not limited by the same time and space constraints as we mere mortals.

2 Kings 19:
35. And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

Luke 4:
5. And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

If the nephilim are the offspring of angels and humans, then there has to be a window which they grow up from babies to adults. Right now I don't see any evidence of giants at any age group.

I think that we are so close to the arrival of the little horn, there is not a window of 18 years or more available for there to be populate of end times nephilim to get started in time before the little horn arrives.

If this is 2015 almost - 2015 plus 20 years say for the nephilim population to generate itself as adults, that would put it at 2035 - which imo is near the end of the 7 years at the outmost, considering the fig tree as Jerusalem and 70 years as a generation.

Thanks to everyone for the response on this subject. So far it seems the majority believe the giants were a product of an unholy union between fallen angels and human women. That is my belief also, after having studied this topic. I believe this fact answers a lot of questions in scripture left untouched by many. For example why did God instruct some of the early warriors to wipe out entire cities, killing every man woman and child and sometimes even the animals, also there may be answers here as to the origin of demons. I do also believe there may be a prophetic significance today.

Matt. 24: 37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

I’m convinced this passage does not refer just to normal everyday activities, but has a deeper implication tied to this subject. Sure we haven’t seen 13ft giants walking down the street, but that does not in itself rule out the fact that some form of this activity may be taking place today.

I realize many reject this line of interpretation, but it is my prayer we can have healthy disagreements, and learn here without some of the tensions I‘ve witnessed on other threads. Thanks Riberra for your contribution. God Bless

Yes they were fallen angels. Enoch details even the names of the ring leaders.

Nephilim, Rephaim, Anakim, and Emim - races of hybrids. The entities God commanded to kill - the entities atheist love to bring up against God - were not all human. They were Rephaim, Emim and Nephilim. This is why God commanded all of them be destroyed.

The entities used human bones for soup stock, and flayed Hebrews (Micah 3:3.) They taught men magic and arts of war.

Adam lost the title of Son of God when he sinned, and all of His progeny are thusly sons/daughters of man. Even Christ called Himself a son of man, because he was born of a woman. Seth is a son of man. Angels are sons of God - especially in the cultural sense (entities that come from the heavenlies - therefore from the Most High.)

King Og was at least 10ft tall, and his bed was ~13ft. Goliath was 9ft tall, and he was a warrior: the tallest man at around 8ft was so frail - bones so brittle that he could barely support himself. Certainly, this man could not be a champion fighter with proportional muscle and skeletal tissue to support his feats. But, hybrids can.

This is extremely deep - and it goes back to "legends" of Lemuria, Atlantis, Phoenicia, Sumer*, Egypt, Babylon, and so on. Those "gods" were real, and it should be curious why the Most High says to have no other gods before Him - not that there are no other "gods."

This also gives the distinction between demons and fallen - something I feel the Church muddles together. They are not the same; a demon is a halfling/hybrid that has lost its physical body, but (because their fathers were angels) retain spirit - forced to wander the earth longing to fill a vessel. This is why the Legion was content with going into swine instead of hell/chains like their fathers - they just want a vessel. The fallen are locked in chains.

There is so much "lore," as well as architecture and masonry that point to to entities that are not completely human.

One more thing: no doubt the angels had insight on God's next big move for the universe: the creation of us as His family, and the salvation plan. How would you feel if you were replaced with a 2.0 version of you - we get to experience physical life, with physical bodies as spiritual entities - with an intimate connection with the Creator.

From that, a slew of emotions and insecurities crept in to the angels; all 1/3 of them needed was a ringleader to initiate something. Out of rebellion, they sought to make their own bloodline of spiritual entities in physical existence. Moreover, it was to pollute the bloodline of Christ so that He would never be the Savior He was supposed to be. "Then, surely God will see His humans aren't so special, and He will take us back, and exalt us as what we once were."

It is pretty scary stuff when you realize the lengths these entities went through to destroy God's plan for us. They are still trying. These entities are serious business, nothing to dismiss or ignore.

Why would fallen angels procreate with human women? I believe the answer is found in the scripture below.

Gen. 3:14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

We know this verse was a prophecy, that the woman’s seed would produce Christ the redeemer of mankind, and that He would would bruise the head of satan (satan’s defeat at Calvary, with Christ’s resurrection) while his (Christ’s) heel was brusied through his crucifixion. We have all heard much about the seed of the woman on this regard, but what about the seed of the serpent? We don’t really talk much about that.

Gen. 6: 6 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,

5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

I believe these verses above show the beginning of satan’s attempt to corrupt God’s plan to send a redeemer through the seed of the woman, by intermingling the seed of satan (fallen angels) into the human race.

Gen. 6:5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

Noah was “perfect in his generations” I believe this does not refer to his righteousness before God but to his genetics that had not been corrupted by the seed of the serpent. God had already said he was a just man but added “and perfect in his generations”. This would explain why God had to totally destroy the earth men women and children. All flesh had been corrupted.

12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

I believe there was more to God destroying the earth that just the wickedness of mankind, I’m convinced had not God taken this extreme action, satan would have completely corrupted the seed of woman.

Well, when you find a leader who will promise to exterminate the wicked mutant DNA demon spawn people, you let me know, so I can start running far, far away.

6 And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot and he also was the son of the giant.

7 But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David's brother
slew him.

8 These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

Believers and unbelievers don't produce giants

Appendixes To The Companion Bible

The Nephilim, or "Giants"
of Genesis 6, etc.
This Is Appendix 25 From The Companion Bible.
The progeny of the fallen angels with the daughters of Adam (see notes on Genesis 6, and Appendix 23 are called in Genesis 6, N e-phil´-im, which means fallen ones (from naphal, to fall).

The answer is contained in Genesis 6:4, where we read:

"There were Nephilim in the earth in those days (that is to say, in the days of Noah); and also AFTER THAT, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became [the] mighty men (Hebrew gibbor, the heroes) which were of old, men of renown" (literally, men of the name, that is to say, who got a name and were renowned for their ungodliness).
