In my parish communities we use what we call a "prayer scheme" or "community scheme." Basically, we pray for the assistance of the Holy Spirit, we ask for God's forgiveness, we praise, we give thanks, and we ask for the needs of the Church, the world, and ourselves. That has helped many people in developing a balanced prayer habit.

That's interesting. I have never heard those terms before as far as prayer goes.

I never heard 'repentance' as one of the 4 types. I grew up with Blessing/Adoration, Petition, Intercession and Thanksgiving. I gave a Stewardship talk a while ago, on Time (time, talent, treasure) being Time with God. Most people readily pray for their own needs (Petition). Fewer pray for Intercession. Fewer still pray Thanksgiving (re:the 9 lepers). And very few ever pray Blessing/Adoration.
